  8. Thank you Ian Its difficult to be constructive with criticism at times, I didn't want to be the first as it easy for others to read something differently to what you intended, but all comes to light eventually. As I mentioned earlier I'm very happy with the model. Their are a couple of small tweaks I'll do, (no more than any other loco and a lot less than some), followed by a new number and weathering to finish.
  9. Ok the errors are coming to light. I had my reservations back in the Summer when the pre production model appeared on this thread and contacted HJ with my concerns, But was told, "no it is right", or "we have a few modifications before production". Some of my personal observations have been: Roof Cantrail curvature is wrong, which offsets over problems (a problem also with their 7mm class 37 and something Bachmannn had problems with). Small cantrail grill comes down to low. Roof curvature wrong, an offset from the cantrail curvature. Roof panels wrong lengths Exhaust and boiler grilles out of position. Coolant fan grill to big? Coolant fan grill doesn't line up with coolant side grilles (this mistake has been done before, never trust others drawings). Bodyside Tall rectangular grilles are too wide and also sit to high at top. Engine room door is too high. Bodyside steps too high. Nose D light slightly too low Headcode box too shallow. Radius where front of nose meets bodyside is wrong Nose curvature wrong. Slope on bonnet is too much. Also where bonnet meets bodyside, it should line up with bottom of drivers window. The problem with any model, is when you start looking at a blown up photos of any model, these errors are going to come to light. I guess their are two types of modeler, those that go to much work and time too get a model correct and those that do a few personal touches and are more than happy with their pride. I believe I fall into the second category and I'm more than happy with my Baby Deltic and from normal viewing its a good looking Baby Deltic to me. Sorry to be the one, off to the stockade now.
  10. Under close scrutiny you'll find the model has rather a lot of minor dimensional errors, never trust others drawings. But we are talking about a model and under normal viewing practice with it purring along my layout, I'm more than happy it's a BD

  16. Some of my notes that I have collected, on these locos during their short lives. Which may be of help for anyone modelling the class 29's. Liveries carried: D6100 BFY D6101 GSY, GFY D6102 GSY, GFY D6103 GSY, GFY D6106 GSY, GFY D6107 BFY D6108 BFY D6112 GSY, GFY D6113 GSY, GFY D6114 GSY, GFY D6116 GSY, GFY D6119 BFY D6121 GSY, GFY D6123 GSY, GFY D6124 BFY D6129 BFY D6130 GSY, GFY D6132 GSY, GFY D6133 GSY, GFY D6137 BFY With the exception of the more unique D6123 which carried small yellow lower panels. The rest of the green livered locos carried a more square yellow panel with all four corners rounded, the exception being D6102, 21 & 32 which had the lower corners rounded off whilst the upper corners would be at a slanted angle. All green locos would later receive full yellow ends between July 1970 and August 71, the last been D6112. Seven of the class received BFY when converted to class 29. D6100 was unusual in that it was fitted with large BR arrows on the engine room doors (it also later received two cab doors from cl21 D6109 which had the arrows on doors). D6107 had BR arrows on all four cab sides and numbers on engine room body sides. These two locos were also unusual in that the yellow extended around the cab sides and onto the cab roof. The other five members of the class in blue had the more standard yellow fronts, with running numbers on all four cab sides and small BR arrows on cab doors. D6100 -19 had the eyebrow vents above the cab windows The only members to be fitted with metal bars on the cab door windows, to protect them from swinging tokens were: D6103, 06, 07 & 23. D6112, 13, 14, 16, 23, 30, 32, 33 & 37 all carried shedplates at some stage during their lives as cl29's. D6102, 08, 13, 16, 19, 21, 23, 24, 29, 32 & 37 had a small grill below the radiator grill on one side, which was carried over from their lives as cl21's.
  17. Some more on how they ended their lives, 8504 GFYE no D - Cashmores, Great Bridge 09/75 8548 GFYE - Polmadie 04/74 8549 GSYP - 8551 GFYE no D - Glasgow Works 08/75 8558 GFYE no D - 09/71 8563 GFYE no D - Glasgow works 05/75 8570 BFYE - Birds, Long Marston 69 8572 GSYP - Bescot 69 8607 GFYE -
  18. Hi Chard, Three on your list ended their lives as: D8519 GSYP D8522 BFYE 8601 GFYE I would be able to fill most the gaps for you, but annoyingly I'm unable to access my own computer.
  19. Thanks Alex, I have seen that one and it does help, what I'm really looking for is the large portal ones with the A frame like uprights. Otherwise I should be able hopefully, to guesstimate dimensions from photos. Some handy shots by Chris Higgs of the MSW overhead, if anyone hasn't seen them before. http://www.flickr.com/photos/chrishiggs/sets/72157603339766313/ Trevor.
  20. Glad to see you've got over your recent lows and worked on that board joint, I'm sure seeing Mark putting those curved boards together has helped inspire you. Look forward to further updates on Highclere, your work has been very inspirational to many of us Trevor.
  21. Hi, Does anybody know of any information about catenary system on the Woodhead route, I'm looking for drawings/dimensions for the various types if available. TIA Trevor.
  22. I have a picture of D414 on that occasion near Dunford East, It was taken from the web a while ago, but can't remember where. I guess when the FA Cup semi finals were played at Hillsborough, that their are probably quite a few occasions when specials were run across from the other side of the Pennines. Some pre TOPS noting's, on occasions class 20s, both single and double headed would work up to Dunford, been noted in the late 60s/early 70s. AL3's (class 83) were also towed by EM1's en-route too or from Doncaster Works. During 1968 when the EM2's were put into store, they experimented trials with Hadfield units across the route, on the feasibility of running Manchester/Penistone services to link with Penistone/Sheffield dmu services, but I don't know any more on this.
  23. Pix You've given the secret away, people marvelled on how good a job you done on those 16tonners and you just showed them how easy they really are Thanks for sharing, are you trying to inspire me to finish my stuff, It could well be working. Trevor.
