  1. I have seen it all now, an advert just flashed up on another site advertising workshops for parents to sign up their six to eleven year olds up for to train how to become successful YouTubers...

    I despair...

Sorry to be a killjoy, but getting money just for making videos on your phone seems to be so typical of the Age, where experience, ability and a willingness to work hard count for so little.

@Captain Kernow in principle I don't disagree with you: however, advertising, marketing and selling are long established traditions YT influencing is no more a new thing than Fanny & Johnny Craddock, Keith Floyd et al  et al were doing when I was a lad for cooking. Iy is just a new media format being used for a concept that has been in use from the first scrawled advert for prostitute back in IIRC ancient Greek times. (Sadly I have forgotten in which ancient City it is inscribed onto the ruins)  Doing advertising etc., well takes a lot of skill it is why those who are good at it get paid good salaries.

@john new I accept your point about advertising, marketing etc. Also, the individuals you mention were all talented people, with skill and experience, which should be attributes valued by all. However, YouTube and other applications allows people who I will describe as 'talentless nobodies' to pretend to be something that they are not and it is vexing to see how many 'modern people' are taken in by all that.
