  7. I have one and thought the photo of the signal arm looked wrong compared to my memory of it.. However It actually looks better, it appears to be more slender when seen "in the flesh", so to speak... Optical illusion perhaps?

  9. The LMS type signal that was obtained as a substitute for an LNER arrived today. Close up and in small they are quite lovely and do very nicely.. A million light years from what Mr Hamfist could produce I tried finding a "Single Pulse Switch" by searching the wwweb and got nowhere at all. Do they have another name? Switches in general seem to hide from view on the web - but this one is even more opaque I made the signal work by touching the yellow wires together - so a standard switch on/off-ed should do the trick. But I would like to use the switch what the Lords of Dapol recommend. I will however be definitely getting some more of their signals, never in my wildest dreams... etc... Here is a link for those eager LNER layout people - who would like a signal now http://www.flickr.com/photos/tatraskoda/5039278233/ The LMS one might make a viable stand in for those like me who is not too fussy...
  10. I once bought a bottle of a well known cola company's branded bottled water. When I opened it it I found it contained alcohol. So I wrote a letter of complaint. Instead of offering an explanation or registering their intention to investigate the matter - they tried to convince me that it had never happened. It is a blatant '1984' brand of thinking, "where nothing ever goes wrong", that pervades certain consumer oriented businesses that in particular deal with families. It appears that Hornby might be operating such a business model - With all the denials and deceptions that are required to maintain and sustain their idea of a pristine, too good to be true, glossy public image. Its all about the fantasy of brand purity - Consumer recalls, therefore, might hurt their public image, so we should probably not be looking for a flurry of press releases on this one that say - "We goofed and we are sorry and we shall put it right."
  11. Here is a link to model Railways Direct.. http://www.modelrailwaysdirect.co.uk/Hornby-R2946-BR-Class-423-VEP-Train-Pack/ To quote from their site... "These VEP models have had a factory modification made to the bogies which will correct the occasional derailments that a few customers had experienced with this model that had not been modified." The price has also been discounted to #99.00.. Maybe this 'upgrade' is now also appearing with other retailers?

  17. According to Google Earth - the above quarry railhead is deceased...the trackbed now devoid of rails and sleepers It would seem that the OS people have yet to revise the map. Here below is an alternative should bare trackbed be against the rule...
  18. No its in the UK somewhere - We almost only have one rail line here (a very long line albeit) - there would be very little point in doing a "One Square Canada"
