  1. Thnaks, Ray. It sounds like miracle grow is easier!!
  2. I can understand to a certain extent why they won't ship over here. I sold once to a buyer in France and it was nothing but trouble. Plus they have a big enough market in the US I suppose. Blooming frustrating for us all the same....
  3. And you're absolutely sure you can't bring it to Trent Valley next year...???
  4. For Canadian modellers I would recommend Greg McDonnell's "Signatures in Steel" and "Passing Trains" and "Canadian Pacific - stand fast Craigellachie". All in large photo album format with pictures covering the whole country. Excellent!
  5. A superb exercise in nostalgia as far as I am concerned. Many thanks for evoking memories of the Brittania hauled Capitals United Express from my very early childhood: Stood on the bridge at Dolphin Junction near Slough watching it thunder through before going to pick my brother up from school....
  6. Bring it to the show Jack and we'll have a competition to see who can repair it!!
  7. I'll be at Nottingham with my own layout but I fear I might spend most of the time watching Portchullin....
  8. Trent Valley Show - www.tvnam.co.uk
  9. Trent Valley North American Modellers 2nd show at Armitage with Handsacre Village Hall, Shropshire Brook Rd, Armitage, Staffs.WS15 4UZ 10 am - 4 pm £3.50 adults £2 accompanied children. Ample parking. Light refreshments. A showcase of the best in North American modelling including several layouts featured on this forum.
  10. Looking good, Pete. Keep it coming. (Cornwall sure is popular at the moment....) Best,
  11. Just caught up with this one. Excellent layout, very atmospheric. Evocative of childhood trips to the West Country by train. Keep it up!
  12. Just found this, Hugh. Excelllent layout. It makes my Lochnagar seem pretty amateurish by comparison. Keep the pics coming.
  13. TVNAM Show Armitage with Handsacre Village Hall, WS15 4UZ 12 layouts, static displays and trade. Light refreshments. 10 am - 4pm Adults: £2.50 Accompanied Children; £1.50
  14. I missed that one - I didn't know there was another Ashbourne Midland! I'll try and look it up.
  15. Thanks for your feedback. The backdrop is by Gaugemaster. I got it from the Signal Box in Rochester when I was down that way the other week. As far as I know, it's a standard item.
  16. How do you use up some spare bits of wood and a couple of weeks of limited spare time? You build a new layout, of course! Started in early February with some surplus wood and track, it supposes a small branch line treminus built by the Midlamd railway to rival the LNWR in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Peco code 75, DCC and hand operated points.
  17. Hi Gary Only just caught up with this. Excellent portrayal of the area. Captures the feel of it exactly. Excellent.

Lochnagar by northpoint original page on Old RMweb __________________________________________ ??? posted on Sat Oct 18, 2008 11:52 am This was posted by Shortliner some time ago (before I became a member). Here it is again for those that missed it with a couple more photos. BTW - except for earthquake, major flood or pestilence, it will be at the Cheshire Modellers bash at crewe in January. __________________________________________ Comment posted by krhgcrr on Sat Oct 18, 2008 1:14 pm Looks great to me! certainly some work gone into it... cheers Keith __________________________________________ Comment posted by dseagull on Sat Oct 18, 2008 2:30 pm Now that is very nice... *Hint* We like trackplans __________________________________________ Comment posted by Re: Lochnagar on Sat Oct 18, 2008 2:31 pm Looks good Nick. Nicely observed details like the post office van waiting for the train bring the layout to life and those dark hills on the backdrop say Scotland almost as much as the running in board does. I've made a note to reserve tables for you so that you don't need to bring the trestles to Crewe. __________________________________________ Comment posted by matto21 on Sat Oct 18, 2008 3:38 pm Looking very good! Especially the last pic __________________________________________ Comment posted by F-UnitMad on Sat Oct 18, 2008 3:56 pm Very nice indeed, Nick. I take it the "industry" behind the station is a Fish processing plant or suchlike, hence the insulated boxvans? __________________________________________ Comment posted by Chris56057 on Sat Oct 18, 2008 4:06 pm Lovely looking layout there, the 26 looks awesome! __________________________________________ ??? posted on Sat Oct 18, 2008 4:25 pm F-UnitMad wrote: Very nice indeed, Nick. Absolutely - fortunately no fishy smell though __________________________________________ ??? posted on Sat Oct 18, 2008 4:26 pm dseagull wrote: Now that is very nice... *Hint* We like trackplans I haven't got a decent digital paln at the moment but I'm working on it. When I have one, I'll post it. __________________________________________ Comment posted by mines a pint on Sun Oct 19, 2008 2:12 am Told you they'd like it? Very nice the scenery, 'me too' on the trackplan , theres a slip in there somewhere? __________________________________________ Comment posted by poindexter on Sun Oct 19, 2008 8:36 am Simple, elegant and well observed . Here's me trying to shove all sorts of of track and crap on a 8' x 1'6" board and you show thats not the way to go. Thanks for sharing. Dex __________________________________________ Comment posted by shortliner on Sun Oct 19, 2008 9:08 am Nick, how about a some vents in the wall of the factory on the viewing side, with a computer fan in the back of the building, and a small plastic dish with three or four uncooked prawns on it for added realism at exhibitions? It could be on a timer - probably once an hour for 30 seconds would be enough Of course, you may not be invited back! __________________________________________ ??? posted on Sun Oct 19, 2008 1:00 pm Ok - for all those who asked for it - here's the trackplan Sorry it's not very clear but the limitations on picture size mean it's considerably reduced from the original size. Before anybody asks, it is a single slip! __________________________________________ Comment posted by devious diesel on Sun Oct 19, 2008 5:59 pm this is a cracking little layout , great stuff david my layout thread viewtopic.php?f=9&t=20571 __________________________________________ Comment posted by dave_long on Sun Oct 19, 2008 6:00 pm Hi Nick I looked over this thread the otherday, but it hadn't clicked that it was yours after you mentioning your US masterplan. It looks a very good little layout. Do you still work on it or have you completely given in to US HO? Kind regards __________________________________________ ??? posted on Sun Oct 19, 2008 8:27 pm Hi Dave I do still work on it. It was supposed to be at Hagley but I couldn't get it and the trestles in the car, hence the appearance of Northpoint yard (as it happens, thye gave me a table anyway, so I didn't need to take the trstles!). It will be at Crewe in January. Bob has already told me I can have a table so no need to take the trestles. __________________________________________ ??? posted on Mon Oct 20, 2008 5:42 pm Time travel at Lochnagar!! - putting the clock forward 25 years... __________________________________________ Comment posted by wsor4490uk on Mon Oct 20, 2008 6:43 pm Nick, Shouldn't it be a single track siding now??? __________________________________________ Comment posted by baggiebloke on Mon Oct 20, 2008 7:35 pm wsor4490uk wrote: Nick, Shouldn't it be a single track siding now??? With lots of trackside weeds and a bus shelter on the platform in lieu of the boarded up station building? But seriously, nice little layout. Keep up the great work colin __________________________________________ Comment posted by Barcaneatpete on Tue Jan 27, 2009 2:07 pm Nick - Really like this thread and layout. Even though I always seem to model BR Blue [WR] there is something I always find very compelling about seeing a Scottish BR Blue era layout......and this is one such layout.........I guess I should thank Mr Futers for fuelling that fire of interest! Any chance of some more pics being posted? There was mention of a large logo 37........ Pete __________________________________________ Comment posted by sjl1973 on Tue Jan 27, 2009 2:18 pm Hi Nick Cracking layout, loved seeing it at Crewe Simon __________________________________________ ??? posted on Tue Jan 27, 2009 7:30 pm Thanks all for the kind words. I'll try and do some more soon. __________________________________________ Comment posted by wsor4490uk on Sun Feb 01, 2009 3:53 pm Nick, I'd like to hear your views on how it operates compared to all the fantastic US based layouts you've built chris __________________________________________ ??? posted on Sun Feb 01, 2009 4:01 pm Chris You should know - you operated it at Crewe! __________________________________________ Comment posted by PaulBB on Sun Feb 01, 2009 4:04 pm Enjoyed this and the CSX Miami layouts at the Crewe show. The two best for me anyway. Both you and Chris were both friendly and helpful. Love the class 24/1 - is this a Bachmann 24 with a Brassmasters roof panel the way George Dent did his in the current Model Rail? __________________________________________ ??? posted on Sun Feb 01, 2009 4:36 pm Paul You're right - it is a Bachmann class 24 but the roof panels were scratchbuilt with plastic sheet. It involved much trial and error and much filing and sanding to get the shape. Glad you liked both our layouts. __________________________________________ Comment posted by dseagull on Sun Feb 01, 2009 4:54 pm Some really good pictures there, it's a very nice layout. __________________________________________ Comment posted by shedhead on Sun Feb 01, 2009 5:00 pm Thanks for taking the time out, getting the extra photo's. very nice... __________________________________________ Comment posted by wsor4490uk on Sun Feb 01, 2009 6:00 pm Thanks Paul, Hope you can make it to Hagley in October Chris __________________________________________ Comment posted by MartinWales on Sun Feb 01, 2009 6:53 pm Nice pictures of a lovely layout-I'm sorry I did'nt make it to Crewe last weekend! __________________________________________ Comment posted by camusdarrach on Sun Feb 01, 2009 7:03 pm Thanks for posting the extra pictures, the layout is superb __________________________________________ Comment posted by Barcaneatpete on Sun Feb 01, 2009 7:31 pm Northpoint wrote: (Pete: I'll see what I can do about the class 37....) 20. I agree with Jordan - 10 feet is a big layout for me. But I like what I see there :icon_thumbsup2:
