Dave,
Looks quite lost in the corner doesn't it. It's positioned at the far end of the UP storage sidings to turn locos from ' the north' - Derby, Sheffield, Leeds etc.

No pressure then John:-)
-
Hi Mike, John is over at the beginning of Dec. Just sent you an email.
-
Ouch that looks painful. You have done a good job removing the side though and I'm sure you'll make a good job with the replacement side.

Thanks Michael. Patrick is a valued friend who has provided copies of all is photos of Barrow Road and 2 large files of data relating to loco and train workings during the 1961 to 1965 period.

Robin,
Yes, very neat indeed. I tried to keep my wiring on Delph as tidy as possible, but yours takes the biscuit. Looks like you're going to get through a hell of a lot of point motors by the time you've finished.
Dave.
Thanks Dave,
Cobalt count so far 18 Analogue for the Main line and connections to the shed - controlled from Lawrence Hill and Engine Shed Sidings boxes and
15 Digital for the shed yard.
I have a further 4 digital to fit on the pair of crossovers in the storage sidings.
Of course then there is the storage sidings themselves.............
-
Thanks Andrew. Chris Yates produced the wiring schedule for the whole layout - GPO telecoms trained - and wouldn't be pleased if I had untidy wiring:-)

Hi Tim, John obviously knows the origin of the turntable but for your benefit it is the original table from the Glevum group layout 'Brinkley' which I purchased recently as a backup for the roundhouse. To let you into a secret I have just received a test etch from John Redrup of the 60ft Cowans Sheldon turntable for the shed. Hopefully I can make a start on it shortly.

Hi Dave, Certainly a lot more to do but the plan as you rightly surmise is to complete the centre roads - the Up and Down Mains - to give a continuous run.
Hope to see you at Railex tomorrow as I'm planning to go.

The baseboards are made from good quality birch ply 6.5mm thick. The sides and ends are formed of two layers glued together with Titebond glue, the inner being 6.5mm shorter than the outer ie 110mm and 103.5mm. The top surface of 6.5mm is fitted into the inner recess and the whole unit glued together in a jig. Depending on the board size there are one or two ribs across the underside of each board.
The storage yard boards are covered with 2mm thick laminate floor underlay which has a self adhesive surface on one side. This is available in 10m x 1m rolls from B&Q or online via ebay.
The scenic boards are surfaced with 5mm thick black foam sheet obtained from C&L Finescale.
Hope this helps. Full details are on previous posts.

You're quite right Dave no chairs required in the storage sidings.

Looks good doesn't it - the coach that is:-)
-
Hi Dave,
I've uploaded a few close up shots of the C12. The TOUs are not fixed yet but I have test run the coach over the track without any problems so far.

Hi Geraint, I've just read the article as well. I'm going to see how it performs first. I can retro fit additional card under the track if necessary. I've used the Graham Turner method of track laying on strips of 0.3mm thick black card which can be 'un-glued' using a spatula. I'd prefer it works without the cant but........... Robin

Dave, the photo is c1964 and from June that year Barrow Road became the sole steam shed in Bristol. All locos from St.Philips Marsh moved over such that the shed had over 100 locos on the first sunday after closure of the last Western region depot.
Many ex GW locos transferred hence the large number in the photo. Maybe the overspill of coal is due to poor positioning under the coal plant?

Have you seen this shot? https://www.flickr.com/photos/124047467@N05/33575793840/in/feed
Thanks Michael I've not seen this one before or the other linked on that page. Both excellent photos.

Hi Dave,
Good to meet you again at S4N and thanks for your input. The main reason I have used mainly ply and rivet construction on this crossover [ and the second one ] is purely economic as I have sufficient stock of both to construct them - and cosmetic chairs definitely not:-)
The B7 turnouts will be copperclad as my stock is just enough to make them.

Hi Robin,
Looks good. With 1:12 turnouts the K-crossings will be around 1:6, so should be fine for fixed K-crossings at that radius. To be absolutely sure on a curve you may want to change them to movable K-crossings (switch-diamond), at the expense of extra point motors.
It's difficult to be clear from the photos, but I think you have some check rails missing. The K-crossing check rails need to be extended outwards in order to check the inner V-crossings. Or if you use movable K-crossings, check rails added.
regards,
Martin.
Thanks for the advice Martin, I've not seen a switched diamond and would be unsure how to produce it in templot. Any pointers welcome? I assume the K-crossing check rails should be extended to the V-crossing wing rails?
Regards,
Robin - [a templot novice]

That looks fabo!! I could do with some track building pointers...
Have a great S4N, I shall be decorating my sons new house in Hemel
Mike
Hi Mike, Glad you like it. Hope to see you at the meeting next tuesday. Happy to advise/assist with your trackwork. I'm off to do some decorating at my son's tomorrow though I expect you'll have to do more than me:-)
-
Switched diamonds?
It is a diamond crossing with turnouts so yes you could also call it that.
-
Hi Robin.
Mmmm... Curved scissor cross-overs, eh? Sounds quite ambitious and a bit of a challenge to loco front bogies and trucks, not to mention filing the switch blades and the number of tie bars needed!
Hope it all pans out OK.
Dave.
Hi Dave,
The alternative is four crossovers. Two would be in the same position as the scissors but the other two would be on the curved end boards which have a 1400mm radius in places. This is fine for the curved main line but would produce a tighter radius than the scissors.
Hope to see you on Sunday.

Looks very impressive. I have one to make up at some point so your blog is of interest. Glad you like the Avonside Jig.

Hi Chaps......thanks for the kind comments
John, I will still use the BB etches for the Mk1's - waste not.....
Dave - My proposed main period is mid fifties to 1962 after which the shed had to many very run down locos.
Phil - As Geoff was a good friend and also a member of the Glevum S4 group I felt it fitting that a rake of his coaches should remain within the group. Days Road bridge brings back similar memories for me to:-)
Robin

Hi John, I believe the etches I have are post BB design change and they and they must have been better before:-)
I have a set of etches in the cupboard for a rake of Bachmann Mk1s. Maybe Justin's are the way forward - Morgan rates them.

There from Farnells in Leeds.
Here's the link to the male housing. This one is 12 way and the crimp pins are separate items.
