  1. You are right with the first guess CME, I am indeed going to experiment with pre-shading.........not a clue how it will turn out though
  2. I have come to a decision as to which Western this one will be ....modeled complete with cab accident damage as she was 1975/76 ....
  3. Not decided, thought about Nobleman but I don't want to do the cab damage...I would like to do a faded one, how about you?
  4. Today I have been mainly swearing at lifting hooks & attending to other details mainly on the roof Mind you I'm sure I will have plenty more to swear about when I tackle the contents of the box it's stood on!!
  5. Indeed Rob & from the same base model by the look of it Where have you sourced your headboard clips from ?
  6. An update on the Westdale Guv. This vehicle has now been painted in JLTRT cellulose & weathered using Railmatch enamels, the eagle eyed among you may notice that the destination chalk boards say Withercombe (the terminus of my railway)
  7. Wasn't the original price about £8 or £9 from Coopercraft ?
  8. The HUGE price hike after becoming part of the Slaters range for the same kit + a set of wheels ??
  9. This will hopefully be of interest to others too is a photo sequence showing how I went about building a British Railways Sand Wagon. The wagon was built completely from scrap from other projects. I used one & a half chassis sides from a long ago broken Van with the missing W iron & axle box replaced with a spare whitemetal casting, although a complete Lima 16T Mineral chassis could have been used if I had one available. I did use a Lima 16T Mineral body as the basis of the Sand Wagon body, the top was cut off 17mm below the wagon body top & the side & end doors were completely removed & Plastruct ribbing added once the body was smooth. Once complete & the various mods were filled I painted the wagon all over in rust & added grey patches to suggest a worn top coat of grey but in very rusty condition. I had some spare 16T Model Master decals which were modified to suite the wagon & there we have it a Sand Wagon from scrap ...
  10. I use these Peter, I would also recommend the HMRS pressfix sheets as well for more general loco, coach & wagon insignia
  11. Thanks CME The Sand Wagon conversion is now complete & just requires transfers, I have also weathered a few more 16T Minerals while I had the paints out for the Sand Wagon ........
  12. I will really miss Parkside Dundass at O Gauge Guild shows & their flexible approach to selling parts separately. I hope they don't end up like Coppercraft O gauge kits have done under Slaters ownership ?
  13. Back to the Sand Wagon.... As you can see the wagon is more or less complete & after giving it a initial coat of rust (will take & post a pic later) I think it is ready for weathering & transfers. As you can see in the pic I have decided to make a second wagon using the bottom half of the original Lima body for this one ...."waist not want not" lol
  14. My toolkit is completely mobile apart from the largest tools such as the Dremel etc. For the last few years I have been using two of these cheap fishing tackle boxes, I use one for all my paints & painting gear & this one for tools
  15. Bit rough & ready at the moment....I am working in a caravan on holiday though lol, but all the basics are there now just a bit of detailing & filling to do now
