Russ, the Boom Gates only clossed off the roadway, they were electricly worked and worked together. The ref on the photo was to the original set up with mechanical gates and four lines. If you want to model "Boom Gates" I made drawings when I was signalman, just ask.

Rob, Cherry Tree was my first signalbox. I can't positivly date the photo' but it is pre 15 July 1951 when the Down Main Starter, just seen above the engine, became a UQ signal.

Put Needle Telegraph or similar in to Youtube etc, you will find your answer.

UK practice was to use Needle Instruments, not a morse key and sounders as per "Cowboy" films. I may have photo's I will check.
