  1. How about "Pimlico South" ??.....
  2. That photo with the 'Union Jack Mini' on it really sets the time period... they should've played "Waterloo Sunset" as the last train ran - Swinging '60s London summed up in a Pop Song and a Layout... RIP South Pimlico..!!
  3. Oh well... the rest of us might as well just give up now.....
  4. ... * returns from quick trip to Shed to check*.... I have a bottle of DOT4.
  5. ... I just ran out of that stuff... and yes I had re-used it; so much that I think it was beginning to put paint back on!!! ...hence the turn to a bottle of brake fluid. It says it's synthetic on the bottle; so yes I was going to test it first. I just couldn't remember what was best to do afterwards!! Thanks chaps all of you for your help!
  6. Apologies for this - especially as I've used Car Brake Fluid as a paint stripper many years ago, but I'm about to do it again, and can't remember something that must be pretty important... Once it's been used and, hopefully, removed the paint from the plastic model in the intended manner... what's the next step?? In other words how do you clean off the brake fluid and neutralise it? Will it just wash off, i.e. water soluable, or do I need to use white spirit etc? Thanks for helping burnish my memory!!
  7. You & me both, matey!! Again, me too... I'm contemplating getting into DCC myself, but there are times when things do seem to be incredibly complicated... all we want to do is run a few trains..!!!
  8. The AWG system is so simple B) ...I wish they'd use it on our side of the Pond...
  9. is planning again... uh-oh....

    1. bcnPete

      bcnPete

nowt wrong with that...assuming it involves spending some money...thats when it gets dangerous...

  10. Aaaahh... Happy memories!!! :) B) On Summer Saturdays you had to get to New Street early to even stand a chance of getting a BRUTE to sit on....
  11. I think it's the way all American stuff will go, in all scales, eventually. No bad thing really; they are streets ahead of the UK in DCC take-up - everything's cheaper for a start!! Nice loco; I couldn't resist having a couple of steamers when I did N scale.
  12. Well you're older than me... ... but not by much....
  13. Ah, so it's not just me, then!!! ... if it was onto carpet I could understand it, but in my case I'm amazed how parts can disappear on a plain, bare concrete floor.... Good choice of kit, too, bcnPete. We'll turn you completely 7mm yet....
  14. I tend to disagree slightly on that one, certainly regarding locomotives at least... we like to kid ourselves that we need less stock in O scale, but when I did US N scale, I had 8 locos, for a layout 8ft long. Currently in US O scale I am up to 7 locos, for a layout that also happens to be 8ft long... Granted, I do have rather less O scale rolling stock than I did in N scale.
  15. Years ago I started my US-outline modelling in N scale. Because I also wanted to run UK stuff, I eventually moved up to HO/OO, as I hadn't space for more than one layout. If British N scale had been as good 10 years ago as it is now, I'm not sure I'd have changed scale... or at least, the decision would've been a lot harder to make...
  16. (Re Micheal Portillo's TV series) I saw it, and just had to come back looking for this layout on RMweb...!!! :)
  17. Mustn't bite mustn't bite mustn't bite.............. :D
  18. ... what he said.... any progress...?

    Class 22 - Part 2

That looks a very nicely etched body! Having built one in 7mm scale, I don't know how you N-gauge guys do it!! Respect!
  20. Re South Pimlico; I loved the explanation when it was in RM of the name, and how it came about (because the only thing south of the real Pimlico is the River Thames!!) ... fantastic!!
  21. "No Rolf; we're not standing far enough back...!!"....... :D It's either a Nissan Hut or half of a big storage tank... ??
  22. I've always known it as / heard other drivers call it - a "Dolly Knot". Reading about it here also reminds me how embarrassingly long ago it is since I last had to use it...
  23. The 'New St Horse' is just one of a number of similar horse sculptures along the line between New St and Wolverhampton, and they have indeed already been around some time - since 1987 IIRC?
  24. You have also omitted a Tardis, Dalek, Trotters Independent Trading Van, Grim Reaper, run-over "The End is Nigh" man, any emergency service vehicles with flashing lights, etc etc etc... Cliche test *Fail*
  25. Period pin-ups!!! Class!!! :D Great stuff as ever - no Mr Ruston Sir, we are most definitely not getting bored..!!
