As a thought Michael, which Lenz chip did you fit in the loco? ....and was it relatively straightforward? I ask 'cos I have a spare Lenz gold which may fit in mine, perhaps with a P1 USP module.
-
If the project went ahead Michael it would'nt exactly be a kit as such more just a sheet of etched body parts and a parts list with no instructions. That said, anybody with a knowledge of the boxcabs probably would'nt have a problem putting it together and it fits the 44 ton chassis a treat......
-
Further thought Michael.....if you do another one in brass have a look at the chassis for the Bachmann 44ton diesel....it's far nearer to the correct wheelbase and, to my mind, runs a whole lot better than the other boxcab I've got which is fitted to the 70t chassis.....just a thought :-)

Ah!....the lettering , I'm psyching myself up to put the decals on mine , I've got them but somehow putting on the (small) individual letters on for Harlem Transfer Co both sides doesn't quite fill me with joy ( NO! I will not chicken out and just go for Erie ) .........where's me whiskey bottle ?

Ah!...I see , but I still don't think the cover was on the Jinties....unless.....on the first 50 they put the water filler where it had been on the 2441 class and later moved it to the forward position, plating over where it had been.....just an idea

Now here's thought....looking at the photo of the Triang model on e-bay (I used to have one of these when they were new!) that circular cover is positioned a fair bit inboard of the tank edge. To my mind it looks in the same position as where the condensing pipes went into the tanks on the ex-Midland 3F tank, which were the Jinty forerunners, and which were removed later , presumably the hole got covered by the plate. IF so perhaps Triang were fed the wrong drawing when they made the model and put the circular cover on. I've got a copy of a Derby GA of the Jinty and it's not on that , but there's no way of knowing to which batch the loco belongs , other than it has the 'keyhole' in the tanks.

Adrian,
The filler for the sandboxes was placed further back by the side of the firebox (see photo on page 170 ,bottom left, in MRJ 160) . Having been in Jim McG's garage in the days when he was living in Sileby and drawing up the 3F, I'm pretty sure that he mentioned that he took some details from a 4mm Triang/Hornby model, which is the only model I've ever seen with these circular plates on.

Have attached a few more shots showing the other loco.

Thanks for the comments chaps.......the cobbles are a moulded latex sheet which I got from..www.kancali.com in the States . They do various scales from N to 1/35th which is the one I've used. It's fantastic stuff and saves you all the hours labouriously chipping away at plaster etc, the bits I laid were a couple of days work.
