  1. Oh dear, a can of worms I think! As has been said here and on many previous occasions, it is my train set and I can do as I please but I would like to get it as near to correct as I possibly can although at this distance in time that may prove more difficult than I first thought. Anyway, it is late now so I am off to bed and the Loriot/Lowmac can wait for another day and in the event that no photographic evidence turns up, I will follow Big Jim’s instructions and hope for the best. Thank you all again for your contributions Willy.
  2. Thank you Chris, that will do nicely. I bought this wagon without instructions and I wasn't aware that they were available on line!! Willy
  3. Thank you Kenton but unfortunately I don't have a copy. :-( Willy
  4. I have a 7mm GWR Loriot M Diagram G14 Machinery Wagon from the Connoisseur range which I have painted in BR grey. However I have no idea where to place the running number and other insignia so can someone please tell me where these go or point me in the direction of a good photograph or diagram, etc. which will help. Thank you. Willy
  5. He must be on holiday in France this week because he was under my bench yesterday and he had a couple of small bits from the end of my 7mm Parkside Mogo so I will be glad when you have him back! Willy
  6. I would just like to say “thank you†to the likes of Roman, ewsjo and br2975, along with many others, for their generosity in sharing such great photos with us on this thread. Not being in a position to witness these “last days†for myself I especially appreciate them and it will be sad not to see the “tugs†on my occasional visit to the UK. Thank you all. Willy
  7. You are right about the postage and I think hard about it each time but I get such a good service that I feel it is worth it especially when I order around 10 sheets. Willy
  8. I replied to that post F-Unit but it would appear that the site went down before you read it so here goes again! Anyway, all I said was why not try Microscale direct? http://www.microscal...tegory_Code=SOO They are perfectly happy to supply small orders because I have ordered as little as 3 sheets from them. There is a very efficient lady called Rachel who deals with orders so you could contact her at their inquiry address and see what she says: info@microscale.com Cheers Willy
  9. I am sure I can fit it all in Jack if I tighten up on the curve under the two over bridges by the Montgomery Liqor warehouse. I had envisaged 3’ but I can cut that down to 30” or perhaps even less and hope the bridges disguise it! Willy
  10. Thank you Shortliner. The concept of the long spurs is taken from Jack Hill’s idea on his “Newcastle Industrial Railroad” http://oscalewcor.blogspot.com/search/label/INSPIRATION where it is the number of car spots that count rather than the number of sidings. Jack's was a great blog and it is a pity that he hasn't made an entry since last January. Willy
  11. Thank you for your comments Jack. I prefer the two storage yard options myself so I will go for that. As for the third and/or fourth track in where the loop is I am with you on that as well although I don't think I would want to go beyond the two loops. I have quickly redrawn it as such and I do think it looks better and as you say it will not block the main thereby allowing me to hold the switching turn to allow a runthrough ........
  12. I thought that it was about time to add something to this thread so here is what I hope will be my project for the coming winter. It will be Norfolk Southern around 1990/1995 and is in an industrial area not far from Norfolk in the Chesapeake Bay area of Virginia. I have noted that some of these industries have already been suggested for other layouts on this thread and I do think that they all offer a fairly flexible traffic flow. I have photos of both Montgomery Liquor and Allied Plywood which were around when I paid a visit during the early 1990s although I will have to move them further south as they were both in Pennsylvania and were switched by the CSXT! I have approximately 25’ x 12’ available along two walls of the room. I have 2 options; one is a sector plate to terminus and the other is a sector plate at either end which, although shortening the layout, would give me more flexibility. This would be my first option and the one that I am inclined towards. I wondered about a continuous run but there are a couple of freezers, etc. along the other long wall of the room and they will have to remain there. Constructive comments would be well received. Willy
  13. Going back to the livery question. What colour did they paint the roofs of brake vans? Was it white and soon weathered to a dirty grey/black or were they painted grey in the first place? Cheers, Willy
  14. Great work Jazz and very inspirational especially as I hope to get an Anegnoria on the go sometime in the next month or so. I will be my first Anegnoria but from what you and others have said, it will be a straightforward build There is one thing I would like to ask you if I may. Where do you get the extended axles which you use presumably to jig the coupling rods? Cheers Willy
  15. Hi Rich, Thank you for the information. That is very good news that they have wired the loco so as to simplify the fitting of a decoder. I tried to fit a decoder to my Hymek and I have to say that I made a right pig’s ear of it when I tried to modify the circuit board on it. I see on Howes website that that they are listing the XL as "sold out" so I will have to give them a call and find out when they are expecting to have it available and then all I need to do is dig deep into the pocket! Thanks again. Willy.
  16. I have my eye on a green Class 33 from Hattons at £395.00 and I would want to fit DCC so I was going to ask the same question myself Pete, so I wonder if you have had any response either from here or from elsewhere as to how straight forward it is. Cheers Willy.
  17. Dave, The van is looking good and I am sure it will look great when you weather it. Where did you get the screw couplings? I have just bought a couple of sets from Exactoscale and although I haven't fitted them yet, they look fine, although I may try Laurie Griffin next time. Talking of Laurie Griffin. He also has a selection of pipes and perhaps one of them would be suitable for your van. Give him a try at http://www.lgminiatures.co.uk/ . On the Fulgurex motors; I have found that the operating arm travel is usually sufficient to drive the points all the way. However, it is possible to adjust the micro-switches a little way so as to give a bit more travel before they cut out and you could try that perhaps. You are right about the noise and that is the only thing that spoils them for me. Cheers, Willy
  18. I love your little traverser Dave, the drawer runners are a very clever idea. How are you going to turn trains around and deal with all the extra stock that you will no doubt have in the future? Keep up the good work and keep us posted. Cheers, Willy.
  19. Dave, as I said to you elsewhere I don't know how I missed this excellent thread. The 0-4-0ST in the first photo is superb and I love the weathering. Is it kit built? I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the LMS van. I take it you used the Parkside PS09 (LMS Ventilated Van-Corrugated Ends (Diag. D1832A)) and if so, you have already done a lot of work on the sides and door because there is a lot of 'ironwork' to remove. Keep up the good work. Willy
  20. Isn't there an issue with the couplings on the Hornby Seacow in that they don't have the NEM coupling pocket therefore making it difficult if you want to change to KD type couplings?

    Inset trackwork on Keyhaven

Thank you for that Andy. I am just about to start some scenic work on my new project and it will require inset track, so very timely. Willy::icon_thumbsup2:
  22. Thank you for that Neil. Keep up the good work and I am looking forward to reading the next instalment. Willy:icon_thumbsup2:
