  1. Nice-looking (and sounding) loco. Heard one at the NMRA convention. Wasn't that one was it?

    Didn't realise the UP road-tested green Class 31s ;)

    Jon

Afraid not, have been meaning the cross the water and head to the NMRA convention though. Maybe next time.

They didnt, they were road testing a 25 ;)

  2. Nice! But if I have to have a loco I have absolutely no use for, I fancy the U50 that's in the pipeline.

looks a bit different. That or a veranda gas turbine!

    Cheers, Mark

Cant go wrong with the Veranda Turbine, the detail is lovely and they run as smooth as silk. Video of my one which i fitted with sound running on my mates layout. Had to leave the tender off due to permanent way issues! Excuse the motley collection of rolling stock too.

I cannot wait personally for the DDA40X. Mind you the U50's are tempting....

  3. By 'locked' do you mean 'permanently coupled'? If so, then no, All Bachmann A1's including Tornado (I have a production A1 and a Tornado) are not permanently coupled. There is a bar attached to the Loco which slides through a slot on the tender and hooks onto a smaill round peg under the tender. There are two holes on the coupling bar, one for close coupling and one for tighter radius curves.

    Hope this was of help.

  4. Why would you do it? For the shear fun and of it I guess, would have about as much point in this day and age as that 5AT is ever going to have (none that I can see beyond being an exersize in engineering theory and a massive waste of money that could otherwise be spent on restoring an old engine or building more lost engines like Tornado) and possibly slightly more point as it would be more interesting to see and more of a challege to make work than just building a loco pretty much the way they have been built for decades.

Seems a little to me like the car industry, very little actual progress or new idea's just a case of "here's our latest model, it's got the same body and chassis as the last model but with a few more BHP and a satnav so we can change a few letters about in the name or ad GTR or something to the end and bingo, new model." It's still the same basic format as most cars that came before it.

No disrespect intended to the 5AT group incase anyone involved is reading just stating an opinion.

More on the topic of imaginary locomotives, this what you get if you glue two class 04 shunters together.

Still deciding the best way to go about motorising this creation.

    Krocodile it!!! :)

  5. On the subject of Lima, is this the world record for a Lima OO loco (or are Irish Rail examples particularly valuable?...)

    My link

As I said a couple of pages back Lima 201's are fairly rare, and command high enough prices on Ebay, especially IE orange ones. Mind you, £325 is a tad optimistic, nearer the 250-270 mark is fair game though. They have gone for more than that in the past.

I need to find that farmers market that worrals was on about, I'd love to polish a few of them in a project or two. Many people over here have performed major surgery on them.

Pretty much all Irish stuff which is sold out by retailers goes for a premium 2nd hand. A lot of money for a crock of crap though in this case!

  6. my moneys on either colas or harry needle getting some, maybe heavy haul or drs aswell. i cant see them being cut up. if they are i think that'll spell the end of my interest in the current railway seen.sad.gif hopefully the class 60 preservation group will have enough funds for one aswel. following the cl58 group.

I just cant see anyone else wanting them. They'd need a large an very expensive overhaul, and with a top speed of 60mph wouldnt suit the likes DRS who need locos rated at 75mph for liner trains and do not need a heavy slogger. HeavyHaul have their 70's with more on the way as well as 66/6's in storage and I dont think Colas would want them either.

Most on the list are ones which have thrown a leg out of bed or have other major failures. Take the good bit of these and keep a smaill fleet going would be the best thing to do really.

  7. Not sure what this says about yours truly (possibly that I'm a decent sort of chap who likes a bit of fair play) but not so long ago I left three of these on a somewhat out of place stall at a local Farmer's Market, priced at £30.00 apiece. I thought they were worth a fair bit but just hoped someone who actually wanted to run one might come by.... And I still hope they did. smile.gif

EDIT: interesting layout the 201's posed on - looks like the edge of the baseboard's been painted with impact adhesive and girder bridge mouldings randomly flung against it....

And this farmers market is where? Would love a couple at a decent price myself, I was out of the hobby when they came out, then missed them! I'm not willing to pay the high prices for them, after all paying that much for something only then to carry out extensive bashing including new running gear is a bit daunting for a beginner like me. Thank god I managed to stock up on a decent amount of Murphy's 141/181's in the meantime though!

  8. Nice job John, of a beast of a prototype. I have an old Lima version of the same loco kicking about that I detailed up a bit. I may give it the vitrains treatment one evening to keep me occupied

  9. Nice though they are, those are not plain green as per the question but green/SYP. They're also dated 1963, hence no advance on the shot I mentioned, although I've now found a July '62 shot on Colin Marsden's '35 Years of Mainline Diesel Traction'. It's also GSYP but looks very fresh

As I stated in my post:

Looks like plain green with no wraparound windows to me wink.gif

  10. I've just received the following response from Hattons to my query regarding the two types i.e. later flat window versions vs. wraparound on the originals:

Quote:... in particular, did any actually run in original plain green with the later 'flat' windows?

Looks like it, would prefer it to have the wraparound ones though....

  11. There is a a form of contribution been made to us although I'm not at libertly to say exactly what it is. But rest assured that a small part of your sale will go to D5705s restoration. B)

That's great to hear D605Eagle, and keep up the good work! Would love to hear a Crossley one day having missed out on the ones here.

  12. I've just ordered two, as delivered green and GSYP non weathered. In fairness to the price its a model with fairly limited appeal, small runs (compared to Hornby etc) and extra expense in tooling up two completely different bogie sideframes etc. Its not that much more than their class 14 which has been done in similar circumstances.

Would be happy if a couple of quid from each sale was going towards the restoration of D5705 though (as Heljan have done with one of their Class 15's), it may get the old girl up and running long enough to get the makings of a good sound chip! ;)

I take it there is no estimated release date as of yet?
