That's super Chaz
Only one butterfly up the USk valley today - a tortoiseshell basking in the very un-Welsh sunshine
It was a glorious day....and a blizzard of Baetis Rhodani (Large Dark Olive) turned up for half an hour around mid day - the trout were far more impressed with them than our feathered models although half a dozen were foolish but carefully returned and advised to be more cautious next time....
The Usk trout are a special breed, built like torpedos and spotted like leopards

No butterflies or swallows in Churchdown today - but the first pipistrelle was out
Hoping for Rhithrogena Germanica and Baetis Rhodani to show up tomorrow...

Great stuff Brian: yes please, more more more!
Six Bells Junction hasn't got those Rugexs - wonder where they ran from? - but there is a Paddington to Brockenhurst working on 26th March, Dinner at Beaulieu Abbey for the punters
Looks like that was a good year Rugby wise for Wales, Grand Slam year

Have to agree with that Neil - its a cracking livery
And by 1973 the sets were running as hybrids

I remember them at both Bristol and Cardiff, very special

Off up the Usk valley Thursday - might be orange tip or brimstone country, hope the fish and wildlife are awake.

Woo hoo!
Just found this one on the Excellent 6 Bells Junction site
http://www.sixbellsjunction.co.uk/70s/730505br.html
OK so it was a reverse livery 8 car set ....but a Nanking Blue 6 car set will have to do for the moment.

Many thanks
I vaguely remember seeing traffic movements associated with that site - an 08 on a trip from Kidder, and a 25 leaving traffic in the up OWW loop at Droitwich - did traffic leaving the site have to run to Droitwich to run round?

Great to see you and the layout on Saturday Rob
Particularly like that BSO....
Its always a great feeling to come home after a show and think "Yup, that went well" isn't it?
Cheers

Mammoth has just been collected from next door......they take in more parcels for us than we do ourselves. Not bad as I only ordered it at 9.15 am yesterday.
On visual inspection it is One thing I think might be missing is the red route restriction dots under the numbers. Most WR Type Four and a Half carried these, does anyone know if D1670 did not?
At last a Bachy Brush with serck shutters in two tone green. Ok I could have repainted one of the other liveries but have you seen the pile of D1500s I have waiting outside the paint shop.
Edit, to answer my own question I found 5 photos of it in the livery as modelled, three of them show the red dots, and two do not.
What - isn't your letterbox large enough for a Mammoth Clive?

Here we are with a numerically significant loco in residence

And a numerical coincidence too!

Are the works plates both at the same end - or also diagonal on the drivers side?

Smashing as always Dave
Was that unfitted brake van in C5114 still in traffic in 1980?
Cheers

That sounds like a cunning plan!
Is that a cast shedplate too?
Never noticed that on a Brush Type 4 before...
Phil

Never been on the footplate in the dark but having travelled up the Valley in the past behind 5164 in the Gresleys on a moonlight night on an all night running gala the atmosphere was amazing.
Can only imagine what that's like on the footplate.

Many thanks for putting that informative post on Blandford
As a supporter since 1970 - I was on the first public train from Bridgnorth - I share your positive points but also some of the disappointment others are expressing around the replacement of the annual gala with what appears to be a non enthusiast event.
Its a shame the FS visit couldn't have been planned for a different weekend so the railway could benefit from two significant income streams. Mind you, the Manor 50 event later last year was popular so I do hope the doubters are confounded and both this plus the rearranged and later gala are successful
Kind regards
Phil
