  1. Something else I have been working on.....this is a pre production Heljan 0 gauge class 47. Repainted and finished as GD tat 568. It was in a very rundown condition, I still have a bit more weathering detail to complete, but thought you would like to see it so far. I think it looks pretty good :-) i believe these are due to hit the shops late this year.

Everything electronic will fail eventually. It is wrong to assert that Hornby TTS have reliability issues without comparing

I have to disagree. I fit hundreds of soundchips over the course of a year. In order of reliability, this is my experience.

    ESU. 99.9% Failures extremely rare.

Zimo. 70% Smaller micro decoders problematic.

TTS. 0% Every decoder I was asked to install, either had faults, failed during install, or early into initial use by the customer.

I made the decision to neither supply or install this rubbish.

And all electronic products are not destined for failure, I have some 30+ year old British bred and manufactured audio equipment that performs as well, and is just as reliable as the day it was purchased :D

  4. The new 00 gauge Heljan class 25. Subject of much discussion on 'that' forum, it was interesting to watch the scathing comments subside a bit once folk actually started taking delivery of these, and seeing them in the flesh. Yes, there are indeed a couple of minor issues, the headcode box glass covers are a poor fit, the domino blinds have been wonkily applied, and yes, there is an internal cablight fitted, but it has been inadvertantly wired to the markers, so it's always on. These are all small, and easily rectified issues, not quite life or death.

It certainly looks like a class 25 to me, and runs superbly. Knocks spots of the now ancient Bachmann tooling.

And yes, the bodyside boiler grille and footstep covers are supplied as detailing accessories.

Yep - that was the point I was making, even if there is a separate LED, it cannot be separately controlled and must be driven from the same function.

Olivias have suggested that the headcode light just shines back as well to give cab lighting. However, one of the images posted does seem to show a small surface mount LED pointing towards the cab. Either way, it isn't good.

Edit: The top of the two images you just posted shows the small cab-facing LED.

    Roy

Ah right, now I see what you mean. So we may possibly have a forward facing led for the markers, and a rear facing led towards the internal cab. I haven't inspected a production model in the flesh yet, but I wonder if this is the same issue as with the 0 gauge class 50. There are indeed separate leds fitted for the markers and internal cabs on this loco...but they have been wired to work together. As a matter of course during sound installation I altered the pcb track feed and added a function lead so as they can work correctly separately as per prototype. I have a couple of 25s due in for weathering soon and will have a look.

Yes - that is exactly the point, there cannot be separate headcode and cab lights which would be four functions, needing a common and four wires making five. A point made in reply to the suggestion that there maybe separate LEDs for the cab lights.

    Roy

All very confusing. Someone has said the only wires leading from the chassis to body are 3 cables. Others have said separate cab lights are fitted. This image, and I presume this is out of the box wiring, show a twin cable feed to each marker panel led, and no sign of any other additional internal cab led.

I think the point he has made about the way the lights work (unprototypically) is more informative and useful than your mocking his use of grammar .

I don't. Heljan never specified working internal cab lighting. Sounds as though the rear cover sealing any extraneous light from the headcode marker led board has either come adrift or is missing. Quite unprofessional for a retailer to go on a rant such as that, same with last weeks photos. If a new release loco lands on my bench and has any issues during initial inspection, I'll take it up with the supplier.

  8. Here we have the first of quite a large batch of Heljan 0 gauge class 37s to be completed. Fully reworked from the original release model, enhancements include,

Bodyside panels and steps filled and flushed.

Bufferbeam cowlings cut away, new ones fashioned, and new bufferbeams fitted.

    Full repaint.

    Soundfitted.

    Detailed.

    Weathered.

37008, in typical mid 1980s filthy GD condition.

Lots more of these to follow.

Probably the minimum one should expect given the huge retail prices being quoted. I understand that the units are not being supplied with numbering or a DCC decoder, so they will be at extra cost.

Not quite getting you. Where are the 'huge retail prices'....there haven't really been any significant increases for a good few years. And O gauge locos have pretty much never been supplied with numbers or decoders. A rather odd comment.
