  1. Morning.  Another monster today in the shape of a class 37. Meet 37222. This is a full 'back to plastic' re-work of a Heljan centre headcode model. Bufferbeam skirts removed and re-built, new headcode marker panels, Western region original style lamp mounts removed from no 2 end, full repaint and weathering.

222 was one of only a handful of class 37s to retain it's bodyside boiler port door and steps.

Spent an enjoyable day building a diorama for a mate to photograph his locos on.
I’ve never constructed anything with a summer theme so there was a bit of head scratching!

Walls are by Ten Commandments, static grass by Mini - Natur, concrete trunking by me, postiche/dolls hair by Treemendus and 03 from Heljan.

By the way I’ve just launched the new website for O gauge locomotives.

Ads are on RM Web but if Andy York doesn’t mind the website is realismredefined.co.uk

  3. Don't know if it has been mentioned prior in the thread, but the Hornby TTS BR blue (nigh on black!) class 08, R3898TTS. It is numbered as 3817, and has high level brake pipes. I'm not hot on class 08 details, and thought only the 09s had the additional pipes. Anyone shed any light on the prototype?

Many thanks for that, that is fantastic information.  I'm hopeful that I can disassemble the existing underframe details and re-use the common parts to keep the price down a bit.  My loco will eventually become Haymarket's 47209, and I'll post images of the conversion in due course.

    Fab, excellent choice!

  5. Good evening. In a nutshell, a set of replacement tanks from GM will set you back in the region of £50. They are made up of many individual parts. I have the necessary parts numbers, and will post tomorrow when back with the workshop pc.

  6. I see a large amount of locos on the workbench, mainly 0 gauge these days with a small amount of 00. Over the 8 years I have been doing this, out of the box running issues have become steadily worse. Hornby are terrible...it's quite rare for a loco to actually work properly. I think the days of every loco being tested on a circle of track before boxing up for sale have long gone.

With respect Paul you are not really comparing apples with apples.

There is a world of difference between a mass market RTR model that should "do what it says on the tin" & a low volume, somewhat, in the eyes of the UK market model. (I have no knowledge of MMI so if I'm wrong stand to be corrected).

So, some people are quite happy to shell their hard earned out for an expensive model that may or may not operate correctly out of the box. Again, some people have the skills to enable the models to operate as they shouldhave done in the first place from the manufactures.

For goodness sake stop accepting shoddy products & send them back, the responsibility lies with the manufacture & the more they get back the more likely they are to actually do something about it. I certainly would not accept it & have never, ever had issues even approaching these from European Manufactures in decades of modelling.
