      NGT6 1315

Would any place where this kind of modelling takes place have to be called a sh*g?

  2. new flat: now have a workroom and a garage with light and power. I may just have run out of excuses?

      Horsetan

Presumably the bog is in full working order.

workbench is set up... in the workroom, but there is the emergency portable telly'n'throne friendly tray so in the spirit of another question elsewhere on here.............. i could try to do a wagon sat on the throne.

  3. it is entirely possible that i may very well need a new job sooner rather than later. a small lottery win to tide me over for a few months while I find something more suitable would be helpful too.

      Trainshed Terry

I know that feeling well, I am still trying to find a job that matches the skill that I have. Good luck in finding a job. don't forget to claim JSA.

Ditto Steve, my get up and go, has got up and gone! I need something that hasn't got a 3 hour, 100 mile round trip commute!

  4. having to do job applications again is proving a real chore - its getting in the way of building gearboxes for a start.

      I know the feeling..............

  5. Today I have finished the first structure drawings for my model of Broomielaw. Starting simply I've reconstructed the coal drops in CAD. By complete coincedence, fifty years ago today, the original 1':12" version saw its last passenger service.

Tomorrow is reserved for trying to carve rough stonework from MDF to make the cell partitions. I'm full of cold so its an ideal exercise for staying indoors. If it works I can move on to doing the bridge too. Just got to fathom out how to export/print from TurboCad

  6. a very substantial work tray built, and now constructing tea to the sound of Hamish and Dougal - Mrs Nauchtie and the dance of the seven voles anybody?

  7. another year, another cv. Still after this one a little CAD time beckons. The staircase arcading is slowly coming together and may see the light of day this year!

Hope it`s a bright sunny day and the CV works wonders for you.

A proper audi? Yes Please - Kielder here i come. One J-72 dismantled and reassembled square and true. Now for th eboring eight hours of the day.

  9. in all the confusion... I've lost a set of j-94 frames. Though I have to admit I only remembered them when i found a set of wheels marked j-94

  10. soledring iron warmed up for the first time this year.

    1. RJL

      RJL

Have you got a copy of " The art of soledring"?

    2. Steve Taylor

      Steve Taylor

no, sadly I make do with "The art of soldering" and a keyboard that seems to misbehave.

  11. ooh my ultrascale wheels have arrived. I might not have ordered them if I'd known 4 months ago that I would now be self-employed, but they are possibly even more sexier than the "50 shades of Brown" that was track prep earlier. Is it wrong to think nomnomnom about wheelsets?

    1. Jon020

      Jon020

:-) not if they're ultrascales. As has been said before, they are as value holding as Gold should you ever wish to sell them on!

    2. Horsetan

      Horsetan

I must get round to waiting six months for 6 driving wheels for the Princess.....

  12. self-propelled 4mm handrail knobs: the fastest thing known to man, with the best camouflage bar none. Perhaops they could be the basis for a UK moonshot attempt?

    1. richbrummitt

      richbrummitt

I find that these things (not limited to handrail knobs) tend to be powered by my ineptitude with the holding device.

    2. NGT6 1315

      NGT6 1315

I fully agree that if those bloody small items must be self-propelled in the first place, they should at least propel themselves into their proper location! :-D

  13. warning: sound from the process of re-spacing peco flexi track into NER 30'x11 sleeper panels may cause domestic friction. I can't vouch for other patterns though

    1. Blue Max

      Blue Max

not given up on S4 I hope

    2. Steve Taylor

      Steve Taylor

certainly not, can't back down now... ultrascale have taken my dosh, but a quick photo diorama and experiment board was called for and if its good enough for some esteemed members of the national media then who am i to argue!

  14. Sorting, sorting, sorting, get those boxes sorted. Lots of stuff found, collated and filed. Dare i get any of it back out to make a mess and finish it?

    1. Horsetan

      Horsetan

You may have answered your own question there! :-D

spoke to soon, the tide has changed and another wave of RCH gubbins sweeps across the desk

  15. I love the smell of Evostick in the morning; smells like peace and quiet.

      skipepsi

Too much and you will be quiet, still and at peace.

    2. Steve Taylor

      Steve Taylor

True, but now the Disney channel has fired up, there's little chance of that, just a dual front attack headache. Still 2 roofs and 6 BB axle guide units in place. :D

  16. ....."for there is surely nothing more beautiful in this World than the sight of a lone man facing singlehandedly A half a ton of angry pot roast!"

    1. Horsetan

      Horsetan

      Out came the matador

Who must have been potted, or

      Slightly insane

      but who looked rather bored.

      Then the picadors, of course,

      Each one on his horse;

      I shouted "Ol

      2 pts Mr Tan

I cheered at the bandilleros' display,

As they stuck the bull in their own clever way,

For I hadn't had so much fun since the day

      My brother's dog rover

      Got run over.

(rover was killed by a pontiac. and it was done with

Such grace and artistry that the witnesses awarded the

Driver both ears and the tail - but I digress.)

  17. with an inverted A1 rattling away on the desktop testing facility, my attention is drawn to the fact that this office is sadly lacking in features such as "the wall of crisps"

"Shelf of tat" is a must. No-one gets their expenses paid for business trips unless they bring back some tat.

    2. Steve Taylor

      Steve Taylor

Hmmm, a bit more diplomatic term for that is needed, since the four shelves of stuff for model making could be, by some members of the household, described as shelves of tat

  18. All hail GW Models - quartering jig a-go-go

    1. Horsetan

      Horsetan

It only does 90-degree right-hand lead. If your engine is left-hand lead, or has 3-cylinders, you're on your own!

    2. Steve Taylor

      Steve Taylor

a fair point, but after today i shall console myself with the thought that unless picasso re-models my head..... I can only see one side at a time, and therefore all things shall be good

  19. I may consider becoming Welsh: the beer is tastier and doesn't hurt the following day. Plus work keeps exporting me there. Greetings from Llandovery

      Horsetan

"Cabin Pressure" LOL. Ah, but I have the Talisker Talisker...

  21. Just consulted the original drawings for my prototype and compared against photos and it appears that even Victorian builders were not adverse to making it up as they went along when they got to site!

    1. 10800

      10800

Yes, beware the difference between concept, planned and as-built.

  22. 1st pair of "c" switches successfully filed up, they fit up and wheelsets passover smoothly, now to trim switches and closures as a unit.... didn't notice that one had shifted on the template when marking up :( now got a "c" switch/closure unit that is 3mm too short. Time to add wine and remember breathing.

    1. Steve Taylor

      Steve Taylor

aaaah but the third one didn't burn down, fall over or sink into the swamp, its not only a very functional "c" switch...... its a very tidy looking one too :D
