  1. Hi

No, I was at the Perth Model Railway show at Dewars Ice Rink this past weekend. Some excellent stuff indeed!

Most shows show some fantastic stuff to strive for. It is also good when you see things displayed that are or appear to be no better (or not so good as) your own.

As Jon says it usually ends up with improvements...it's just that first decision to ...as the song says...'rip it up and start again (-1980 stuff too ....)

Attached photos...initially enough to make you weep! Off to Gibraltar to see my son and Grandchild (and yes I am far too young for that..)

    :yahoo:

on Saturday so the building site will last for at least a couple of weeks!

Bright sunshine and warmth to re energise the builder!

  2. Hi

I have been operating a Dynamis for a couple of years and find it excellent. Worth setting up a dedicated programming track, I have had a problem a couple of times changing CVs on maintrack, Works well on dedicated track. I also use this for wheel cleaning using an excellent product that sits on the rails and puts power to wheels with wire brushes that clean it at same time, Clean wheels essential for DCC sound!

  3. Hi Jon

I was quite disappointed not to make it through to Waverley to meet you and 22.

    :(

However, I hope to take in another tour later in year with my Dad who is now on the mend.

    B)

22 does look splendid indeed. Like a new loco not 50 years young!

Great photos. Are you going to produce one of your detailed Deltics in pristine ex works condition?? Good challenge to get it new but not OTT. Different questions like how much of a gloss? Would be interesting contrast with your weathered ones??

  4. Hi Richard

Alas I didn't see steam in service at Perth just before my time. My Mum (Elgin)and Dad (Perth) however often speak about how great Perth Station was with A4s and lots of other interesting locomotives. Even the difference between now and the early 80s is pretty depressing. I remember the station being alive. My mates and I used to buzz about between Monifieth and Perth and Arbroath with jaunts to Haymarket. Lots of variety and stuff behind the wall. Pretty much a bit of a yawn now. Old photos of Perth and shed show just how busy and important it once was.

Thanks for your help. Will post some more after some more work!

  5. Hi Jon

Agree with above. It is going to look fantastic when finished. If i was you I would fit the speakers now. Sound makes such a difference although I don't think any of the Deltic sound chips are quite there yet.

Better to do now than hacking it to bits later and damaging something. make sure it is bass reflex speakers you fit though.

    Keep up the goodwork.:)

  6. hi

Yip, an interesting topic. I bought some Preiser figures for my modern image TMD and I'm afraid they just don't look right. They look small. I am going to change them for true 00 scale figures at some point. Interesting idea about the footplate staff. Think you could perhaps get away with Ho scale here. Perhaps not.

Don't know if as suggested its head size or waist measurement

(I must be jumbo size if that is the measure!!)

but to me they somehow just don't look correct.

Like all things though, personal opinion.

  7. This looks good. Am I correct in thinking the walls are the ones from International Models?

Looking forward to seeing the shed, the wooden-sided ones were always my favourites.

    Hi Mikkel

Yes they are the ones from International models. I used them on my old layout too. Easy to use and trim with hot blade and available in grey as well. Only downside is if your layout is portable they need to be protected when moving as they can be damaged fairly easily. Perfect for a home based layout. They can also be used on reasonable curves very easily. Come well packaged and are good value with straights and left and right slopes and a plain brick sheet too.

  8. Ah well , think he needs to go on a diet as well!!!

The other ones are, when finished, to represent two Tayside Region buses. These were the Dundee Council owned buses. Prior to this new livery they were all over green. Tricky bit is getting transfers for the Tayside Region logos. (have someone doing these for me on waterslide transfer sheets) Think they will look quite good when proper transfers put on and weathered. These buses often looked pretty grubby particularly in winter. Just another part of re living my youth!!!

See http://themunicipals.fotopic.net/c1229797.html if you are interested. I am awaiting a Volvo Ailsa in London red to re livery in similar colours. These were very common and the mainstay of the fleet by about 1980 I think.

  9. Hi

On a similar theme....picture the scene....my mother and father living in a bedsit type flat in a tenement in Dundee's Blackness Road (not the best then) sharing an outside toilet with two other flats. Feb 7th 1964 and hours after my birth my father went out and bought a Hornby Triang DMU!!

I am told he survived the fallout...only just

    Never too young mate!!

    Chris :)
