One kit that I've had in my possession for quite a while now was this Porthmadog Harbour signal box kit. Painted and assembled (rather badly because it wasn't an easy one to build), this'll form a scenic break between the 009 and the fiddle yard. Far from completed as it still requires the roof and details going on. But it's quite a nice little thing to have at least.

    Hi Jack,

Could you tell me where I can purchase the kit of the Porthmadog Harbour station signal box?

Would definitely love to have one of these!

    Cheers

Work has been proceeding on the enlarged storage sidings as time allows.

All the tracklaying is complete with microswitches - as before - for point frog polarity. I just need to wire them, but that should be a reasonably quick job. There is as small amount of track DCC wiring to add to the new siding roads.

All the point servos are installed and part tested with the extended Megapoints routeing gear. I now have two route boards - one for each of the inner and outer circuits - as the route count has gone from 24 to 40 - so each router now controls 20 routes.

There is one inter-board cable to be fitted that carries the signals for 6 servos from a new 12 channel servo controller (there are actually 16 new servos, but I did have two spare channels at each end to feed the two new servos on each end board)

The "inner" two FY boards now have 6 new servos each, so 1x 12 way controller looks after them.

Just need to finish off the new "bling" route  control boxes that should give more reliable operation that the original panels. The previous route control pushbuttons required a positive press, so I've made them a bit more idiot proof (one is a very infrequent RMwebber, the other isn't on here - so I'm not talking about G, J and C............ - you know who you are)

The "big test" should be in the next 10 days or so depending on work/family/other stock commitments.

Then it's readying the stock for Stafford. If I get chance, I'll post stuff on the workbench thread.

    Cheers,

    Mick

I've made one of my infrequent visits!! I think I'd be the best person to test it to see if it's idiot proof :crazy_mini::crazy_mini:

  3. Hi Mick,

Hope this might be useful ;)

Don't know if they're all like this, but i've seen 302 since it's been named Chad Varah, & it's got the same exhaust port blanked off as 307 has in the pic.

    Cheers,

    Phil.

They all had one exhaust port blanked off as it was quickly discovered that when dragging Pendo's the exhaust gases were getting drawn into the Pendo's air-con system and gassing the passengers!!!!!

  4. Hi Leon,

Thanks for the compliment on the 60's.

I use the airbrush to put the paint on in the general area I need it and then take it off where I don't with the damp cotton bud.

I can't take any credit for the technique, I got the idea off the Model Rail weathering DVD. It's worth getting!!

    Rob

  5. I wanted to add vertical streaks down the side where water/grime has un off but was unable to get the airbrush fine enough.. :(

Use a cotton bud dampened with thinners and rub it vertically down the side of the loco leaving the streaks you desire.

I've added a couple of examples of mine done with this method. (Ignore the wonky buffer on Mainline Blue one!!)

Have you checked that you have the two 23mm speakers in phase? If not they cancel each other out resulting in very poor sound output.

Sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs............ phasing is where both speaker cones move in the same direction when operated. The easiest way to do this is using a PP3 9v battery touch the speaker terminals on the battery terminals and note which way the cone moves and which terminal (+ or -) touches which speaker terminal. Repeat with the next speaker and then connect the 'same' terminals together.

I've tried the Base Reflex and gone back to the two 23mm method!! By far the best way in my opinion!

  7. Hi,

I was speaking to the 'Kernow Boys' at Model Rail Live! last weekend. They told me that this current batch of fully weathered 'bullets' and the forthcoming partially weathered ones will be the last weathered ones to be produced by Dapol. Apparently production costs of the weathering has rocketed so much that Dapol can not justify the expense!

So if you were hanging on to see if the original versions were going to be repeated or new versions released you are going to be very disappointed.

Can I suggest that if you are tempted to get some get your order in quick as they were selling well at Barrow Hill. Combine that with the pre-orders leaves not many left for general sale. They are still showing as in stock at the moment, but I wouldn't expect them to remain there much longer. Trust me once you see one you'll be impressed!!

    Rob

P.S. No link with 'Kernow' just a very happy customer and the proud owner of a rake of the latest fully weathered ones!!!!laugh.gif

  8. Hi Jamie icon_wave.gif

I popped in to the museum yesterday. They told me that all of the items that they have are currently in store and not on display to the public.

They did say that you can e-mail a request to them to find out what they have and if it can be viewed.

    The e-mail address is lancaster.citymuseum@lancashire.gov.uk

They also suggested that you contact the National Archive at Kew to see if they have anything. Apparently you can also check their catalogue on line.

One last suggestion, as I was leaving, was the National Railway Museum at York.

Sorry I couldn't get any further info...... and I'd presume you've already tried these avenues!!

    Regards

    Rob

  9. Hello Jamie,

I happened to talk to Richard, of The Train Shop at Morecambe, about your project. He suggested that you contact the Museum at Lancaster. Aparently they have quite a lot of info about the Green Ayre line. Maybe they could assist you?

I'm R/D tomorrow and going into the city centre so I'll pop in to the Museum and see if they can help. I'll let you know how I get on.

    Rob
