    70 foot stock

Nice to see some RTR bashing going on here, and very interesting stock too. Looking forward to following this! It's a pity that the GW Works site isn't updated any more, but glad to see that his blog is still alive. - Mikkel
  2. I remember Millport Victoria very well from the two appearances in RM. It really fired my imagination and was one of the reasons I became interested in pre-grouping modelling. Wish I had seen it live! I'm really delighted to hear it still exists and that you are going to restore it (if I understand you correctly?). I'll follow wih great interest!
  3. This looks good Kris, I like the way you have achieved a sense of depth and distance in what must be a fairly small space.
  4. If you want to rename the entire blog (and not just the entry) you should go to "my settings", then click the layouts and blogs tab, and then click the name of the blog (which is just beneath "Your current blog" and just to the left of the "post new entry" link - it looks like one link but is in fact two!). You can then edit the name of the blog.
  5. Those are excellent layout ideas! I've often toyed with the idea of Winchester too, as part of my general liking for the DN&SR. And there was that amazing 4mm layout of Winchester by the Southampton group that was described in MRJ. That said, what would really make a difference would be Paddington 1906! That would be truly amazing (even if it's only Bishop's Road!).

  7. Hi Buffalo. Yes, ever since I stopped updating gwr.org.uk I've been looking for a way to share my botched efforts with others in some kind of blog format. And along comes the new RMWeb . As you can see I am also a fan of the Buffalo class (although yours is clearly a rather better build!). I do like the GWR saddle tanks - and it's a pity they are not accesible to a larger segment of modellers (ie RTR modellers). I've alway thought an 850 class would be a good bet for an RTR model....
  8. What a clean and neat build. I've been following this over on the old RMWeb and happy to see it here too now. Now all we need is to see it in rich GWR green !
  9. Thanks BlackRat. I am definetely no weathering expert and it's basically just various shades of grey and dark brown, wiped off afterwards in the time-honoured way, and with a bit of light colour drybrushing afterwards. I'm getting interested in more advanced types of weathering these days though, must try that next time!
  10. This looks great - I like the idea of a relatively large terminus on a micro layout. I think I saw your post on the overall roof over on the old RMWeb and was impressed then. Seeing it here now with platforms and rails is even better.
  11. "The bay" was the first of the Farthing layouts. The layout portrays the bay platform for the GWR Overbourne line at Farthing. It is inspired by the bay platforms at Newbury and Didcot, and combines selected features from these. The trackplan is very simple, but allows reasonable scope for operation. The bay platform and its canopy is positioned at the very front of the layout, in order to provide a viewblock which forces the onlooker to look beneath the canopy, thereby also avoiding the "birds eye view". The photos seen here are rather out of date by now. "The bay" is nearing completion, with just a few details remaining. I'll begin taking photos of the finished layout shortly, once we get a clear day. Meanwhile, there's a more detailed account of how "The bay" was built here, although this has not been updated for quite some time.
  12. Question: How do you eat an elephant? Answer: One bite at a time "The Farthing layouts" are a series of OO micro-layouts that depict small sections of the same overall junction station. The period is Edwardian, although I occasionally have heretic out-of-period operating sessions. The layouts are operationally independent of each other, ie they are not connected or modular. In this way, I can explore my interest in larger stations in a very limited space. In other words, I'm eating an elephant one bite at a time! The station of Farthing is located on the GWR line between Newbury and Westbury, and serves as the junction for the fictional "North & South Railway" line from Swindon to Salisbury, now part of the GWR system. It is also the starting point of the local branch to Overbourne. Map showing Farthing and the old North & South Railway, now absorbed by the GWR
