  1. and if he reads this I am sure he is laughing all the way to the bank. The business model evidently works despite the comments. I wonder what he would charge for an Impetus kit?

Why ? Are you interested in taking out a mortgage :O

  2. So rather than carry on slagging off a current member of this site, might it be better to stick to the more light-hearted side of things in this thread, which provides harmless entertainment for most of us? Anyone who really feels the need to take issue with his workmanship can possibly use the personal messaging function instead.

That's not going to happen around here.

Did you not realise you were in the presence of greatness

  3. You may not have "deliberately misled anyone" by your listing, but I think you did with your answer. When it became clear that the questioner had misread the listing, I would submit that you had a duty to point out their mistake.

Simply saying "the item in the listing is in very good condition and has had minimal use" is IMO wrong. It is ceartinly misleading, even if technically correct.

If he does buy the item, wait until you get into a dispute with him. You may (or may not) win the argument, but may also have missed a genuine sale from another bidder who know he was bidding on an empty box, bit got outbid by someone who thought he was bidding on a locomotive.

    Have to agree with this.

Its very easy to describe if what you are selling is a box.

In the heading. Bachmann XXXXXXX (Box Only)

Very simple & no comebacks from anyone who decides to buy,

Describe what you are selling to the best of your ability & as comprehensibly as you can.

If you make a mistake then fair enough. We all make them but make it clear in the heading exactly what's for sale.

  4. Wow you guys are brutal, no wonder people can be put off posting their work if this is how some behave.

Is it really that bad? and for £9 seems like a decent price.

Now you know why people are very slow to put their work out there.

It must be very difficult being that perfect.

Maybe there should be a section for "Perfect People Only"

    Only genius's need apply.

Criticism is all very well but it should be constructive.

  5. Would that be the same manor as the secure manor in which it will be wrapped for dispatch?

Sounds like a riddle to me.

I see he has removed the block capitals conditions that show that he can't even spell "include" or get the name of the "Trade Descriptions Act" correct.

I sent him a message and did get a reply. Here it is (his caps)

At least I am now protected against making an expensive mistake and buying some of his items after a few drinks :jester:

He must really be having a bad hair day.

I might have forgiven his terms & conditions on the grounds that he might have been caught by someone but there's no excuse for that level of rudeness.

  6. Do you think I would get much for this on E Bay as spares for a Network Rail banana sandwich?

Sorry Colin but those bananas don't comply with EU regulations. They should be straight.

Health & safety will be after you :triniti:

  7. Whoa.... :O

    http://www.ebay.co.u...984.m1423.l2649

These have been turning up in fair and regular numbers over the last few weeks and gone for between forty and sixty quid a pop (I have a forty quid example on my workbench, needs a little TLC but otherwise its good) so why suddenly did this one go through the roof?!?

If you look at the bidders ratings they appear to be inexperienced E Bayers so they just got caught up in the whole auction thing.

It happens but never when I'm selling

  8. I admit that I posted it as I didnt consider it 'show' quality, nothing to do with size. I felt that the seller was maybe trying to get a bit more for it by implying it was an ex exhibition regular.

    Cav

Yes a newcomer could easily be swayed by the exhibition implication.

It would be a nice little layout for someone. Not sure what its worth though ?

    £490 ?

  9. I guess you're right really. Although the quality levels I'd expect to be better though.

Yes you're right. I can understand where you're coming from. You would expect a show layout to be a bit better perhaps but that just opens another tin of worms.

Who decided what show quality is ?

Maybe if the seller left out the "Show" part in the description it might be better ?

  10. Whenever I'm selling some of my old stock on ebay I always keep a weather eye on this column, in the hope that someone is about to pay well over the odds for my unwanted items. Alas I am always disappointed.

    You're not alone.

Sometimes I wonder about some of these auction prices ?

Identical dimensions to mine, hardly 'show' size for a roundy roundy.

Yes but who decides what show size should be ?

  11. Strictly speaking a professional is someone who has professed an oath as part of their training e.g, doctors, solicitors, civil servants, Earning money for doing a job is a trade or craft not a profession (and yes I know the term professional is hugely misued these days).

Tell that to the non professional heating engineer the next time he comes to fix the boiler when you are freezing your butt off in the middle of winter

  12. Surprisingly he does. Check his completed listings:

    http://www.ebay.co.u...mplete=1&_sop=3

Surprisingly he does sell very well. I'm not suggesting that his items aren't of very good quality because they are but the prices are at the top end of the market & in quite a few instances well over.

Its his postage prices which get me. He's even worse than the NRM & that's saying something.

I suppose you can't blame him for doing it as he's obviously doing well out of it.

  13. Plus he wants £20 to send it to me - Hattons never charge more than a third of that figure.

Same here but you'd be a bigger fool to pay his asking price let alone the postage.

I wonder does he see any problem with his listings or does he actually sell anything ?

  14. Agreed. Is it really 'modelling', in the true sense of the word, to buy a far inferior model to those available at a fraction of the cost, then refuse to make any alterations to it?

Its collecting in a lot of cases. Some people are collectors of certain manufacturers items for various reasons personal or otherwise. Its not all down to the quality of a model. In a lot of cases its down to the history of the models. or they may have a personal involvement in a persons life in some way. These people might never have had a layout. Their interest is purely in the history of a model.

Others are involved in Model Railways as just a hobby & some people do a bit of both.

  15. OK, it's Wrenn and it's in good nick, but geez, £375? :O

Or if you have slightly less deep pockets and are willing to consider Hornby, gostude to the rescue!

Worth every penny £300 to £400.

Ah but look at the detail of that amputation wound. Scale sutures and healing scars. :jester:

Its obvious it was done by a surgeon. You must make allowances for that in the final figure.

I do not understand the madness that exists for Wrenn models. They have all been superseeded by far supeior (and cheaper) models and as far as I am concerned are only fit for parts and/or battering and rusting up as part of a scrap yard scene. That is what I would do with it if I picked it up for under thirty quid... :butcher:

    Forty quid tops...

I take it you're not a Wrenn collector :read:
