  1. Ultrascale P4 wheels arrived this morning :D

I'm inclined to agree, but it's almost worth it for the experience of getting wheels from Ultrascale within four days of ordering, including the weekend

    Nick

Luck man. mellow.gif The wheels looked great on the site. At £6 postage I was still going to buy them but when I was quoted £8 at checkout I said no way.Pity really as I would have loved a set.Thats life I suppose. I have sent them an e mail for comment.

Edit: I checked again on the site & its £6 ordinary post & £16 insured laugh1.gif

I ordered a set for the £6 uninsured postage but now I find I have to wait until my details are registered on the site tomorrow before I can complete the order on line. No wonder some orders take months rolleyes.gif

  2. Details now up on the Ultrascale web site. Very reasonable price and they have/had some available for delivery within a week. If you're quick (and lucky), you might see a record delivery time from them  I've already ordered mine, but I wonder how many folk got in before me...

I would agree, very reasonable price for the wheels but what about the postageswoon.gif £8 to Ireland for 4 small wheels. It said £6 in the information which is bad enough but I was quoted £8 when I went to check out.

After all it was £10 postage to Ireland for the whole loco & that was registered signed for. Sorry but someone is having a laugh with that postage rate I think.

  3. I have received my LNER model. Its amazing how small it is. Its a very nice model. Mine is now fitted with a Lenz silver decoder. Track needs to be very lean but the model does run smoothly.

It will stall if there is any dirt at all on the track or if your track laying is not good. My track laying is fine & level but I only use my layout about once a week so I can expect some dirt.

One thing I am puzzled about though. Perhaps someone here might have an explanation.

If the loco stalls I have to lift it off the track for a few seconds & then put it back again before it will move. What I do is just lift the wheels on one side off the track for a few seconds & then lower then down again. The hand of God just pushing it on wont work ?

I have never seen this with a loco & I have quite a few, some might say to many laugh.gif

I did run the loco on a rolling road under DC for about 15minutes in each direction & again for the same time under DCC once the decoder was fitted. Perhaps someone has some idea about this ?

  4. Sounds like a scam to me. If anyone gets such an e mail just forward it to spoof@ebay.co.uk or spoof@ebay.ie if in Ireland.

Do NOT reply to any e mail like this or do NOT click on any links contained in any such e mail.

If you are buying on E bay look at the sellers previous record because someone with good feedback is unlikely to be selling stolen goods & above all use common sense.

  5. I know exactly what you mean by .

Mine ordered March 24th,processed March 25th & but only sent out yesterday March 29th due to higher than expected volumes :D.

You ordered June 2010 I ordered March 2011 & both our locos got sent out the same day. I think everybody got their loco when the supplies turned up no matter when you ordered. To be honest I think pre ordering means diddly. They just use it as a monitoring tool to work out possible demand & to scare the buyer into thinking "If I don't order now I may not get one":P.

    Edit

This item arrived on Monday April 4th. It took 5 days which isn't bad from the UK to Ireland. It was well packed & arrived without damage.

  6. Ordered 12/06/2010 paid on the 8th March 2011 sent on the 29th March 2011 said palate had gone missing and thought they had better get the ones that were ordered first out of the door (12/05/2010) !!!

  7. I think sometime you are lucky & sometimes not so lucky.I ordered from Rails a small item which was said to be in stock. No product arrived. It took so long to arrive that I had given up on it & gone elsewhere. Now my money wasn't taken so the product was obviously not in stock but I received no e-mail or message to tell me they didn't have it. On other occasions they have been excellent so maybe it depends who you get to fill your order.

  8.

Remember the next one is Tetleys Mk 3, the second one got eaten by woodworm and my ever whinging neighbours to the north are, even as I write conspiring to 'de-rail' the new layout. strange how the local planning department couldn't find time to visit and discuss my intended new-build but the moment the neighbours complain I'm building out of position the enforcement officer arrives at warp speed. (We anticipated the likely complaints and we are well withing the specified parameters

I call them the moving curtain brigade. They're all frustrated planning officers.:D

  9. Georgian terrace houses both low relief & full size. I think a modular type back scene with old warehouses & tenement backs from the 1930's to 1960's would be excellent. I could see these selling like hot cakes as each modeler could create his own individual back scene & because no two would be the same would be in great demand.:good_mini:

  10. Thank you so much for posting that link Tony. I'm really pleased that you have made so much progress. The layout looks really great and deserves to be shared with a much larger audience, so come on, start a new thread on here. Some of your scenic work and backscenes are very good indeed.

Hoping to see that wonderful terminus soon....smile.gif

The terminus will appear eventually but as I said I spend only a few hours a week, mostly on Sundays working on the layout and as you know even when you have lots of time things still take time to complete.. At the moment I am making up little point control panels for around the layout. A fair bit of work involved, most of which you don't see so you think nothings happening but I'll get there someday. My partner who's interested in art likes to paint the backscenes & I really enjoy doing the scenic work. The one problem I find is that where I live there is no one to turn to for inspiration. Most of my ideas come from any visits I have had to the UK & reading on forums like this. My partner is great support to me & the fact that she is interested in what I do is a great help. Once I get my little point control panels up & running I will start a thread here on the forum. I was sorry to hear of your hand injury, the next time pick on something cooler biggrin.gif

  11. Thanks for that. The rad is only on low in winter and I have cut the boards back above the rad to allow the heat to rise. This room is part of the house and double glazed and well insulated, so it should be OK. The staircase is open to the rest of the house and warm air does rise up from below. I'm not 100% comfortable about it, but the options were limited.

Excuse me asking, but were you the person building a large layout in Ireland with a terminus on a peninsula? If you are, any news on your own layout build? Unless I've missed it, I hadn't seen anything since the old web folded.

    Hi Gordon.

Yes thats me all right. Looking at your skill levels leaves my efforts light years behind but I have fun & thats what its all about. I am still plugging away with no pressure to ever have it finished. I have usually only a few hours a weeks to work on mine & like yourself I work alone but not by choice. Where I live Model Railways would not be top of most peoples lists biggrin.gif

Even so often my partner & I travel to various places to see railways of any kind. In April we spent a very pleasant week in the UK. My partner was doing an art course in Luton so I traveled to the surrounding counties & towns looking for anything I could find. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed myself & met some great people. We will be back there again later on in the year.

You can see some photos of my efforts here. http://www.flickr.com/photos/tony_daly_ireland/

You were a lucky man to get those Alan Downes buildings. The man is a genius. I also spotted your NCE system. Same as myself. I moved to the wireless version recently. The freedom it gives you is really great.

    Tony.

  12. Hi Brian.

    Try here. http://www.dccsupplies.com/

They may be able to help.

    Hi all,

My Prodigy Advanced uses a twin RJ45 plug lead to connect the throttle to the base unit. Its an unbooted straight connection lead of around 8 foot length.

My problem is I keep standing on the lead and either pull the hand set out of my hand or tripping on the lead, especially when its close to the base unit, but I also need the length of cable to move around a little!

I would like to replace it with a coiled type of lead e.g. As used on telephone handsets, but so far I have been unable to track down a supplier. Loads of RJ45 conventional cables for sale as "Patch leads" but nothing in coiled form.

Any ideas on a supplier?? ( I have tried both MRC and Gaugemaster with out success).

    Cheers

    Brian

  13. I have used them on several occasions & had no problem until my last order. They were supposed to get back to me to advise on postage cost but I heard nothing. I emailed to ask again about the order but still heard nothing. I've now given up on the order & will get the item somewhere else. The order probably got lost in the great unknown. :O
