  1. It's rather windy here in Bristol

Pushing the little one in his pushchair I got stopped dead in my tracks while crossing the road, might as well have had a sail attached to me.

Not a good morning - my card was denied at the ATM so couldn't get any money out, rang up the Halifax to find out why and they've had a major power cut, all their systems are down even the helpline!

  2. Received my D8500 today from Liverpool.

Ran smoothly both ways straight out of the box on my test circuit - the wheels are clean!! (the track isn't though so I was pleasantly surprised)

A bit noisier than my other Heljan locos, more on a par with a Bachmann 24 or 25.

  3.

The RESPECT campaign the FA are running clearly left it's mark with SAF. So along with dealing with managers comments on Refs, can we get something done about the cheats in the game?

The recent Fulham European game had a classic example of blatant cheating. For those who didn't see it, a player went writhing around in apparent agony because his studs had contacted with a Fulham player's knee. The result was the Fulham player being sent off. On the replay it was all too obvious, as was the fact that the ref didn't see the incident clearly.

ps I'm a Liverpool fan, 'nuff said.

  4. I would be an enthusiastic purchaser of a disc headcode version, but given the time elapsed from the launch of Heljan's 26 to present, and still no sign of a 26/0, perhaps there is little enthusiasm in Denmark for pilot versions? May need to graft a Lima or Joueff 40 disc headcode nose on...

At least the late condition 26/0 has been announced - I want original condition 26s, both types..

Could be in for a long wait.

  5. Does anyone know why they have been given '70' as a class number, when '7X' has been used for electric classes in the past? What was wrong with the vacant '5X' or '6X' class numbers? (especially as class 70 was used before for the Bulleid Co-Co electric locomotives).

It's because the 'vacant' 5X and 6X series aren't vacant, they are used by DMU and EMU cars.

  6. I believe I was lucky with my D8568 purchased from Signal Box on pre-order when it first arrived. Admittedly, it takes a while to "warm-up", unlike any other Heljan loco., (Hymek,27), but then runs well. I'm kinda tempted with a D8500 to make a pair, but may wait until someone, anyone, gives a review of one from the new batch on RMWeb to see whether they are really different, or wait until my pre-ordered 15 from T4U arrives. Any comments welcome.

    cheers, Peter C.

I've just ordered a D8500, should arrive tomorrow or Sat. I'll report on its running qualities when it appears.

  7. I'm sure someone will model the whole class!

    I'm only surprised it wasn't a Class 21/29... icon_razz.gif

Heljan certainly gets my vote on the Baby Deltic. icon_thumbsup2.gif

I'm with you, been hoping for the 21/29 even since the explosion of unsuccessful/oneoff prototypes.

And dare I mention the headcode version 24?

  8. I have received an e-mail from Rails of Sheffield today saying that the next batch of Class 17s are on their way, together with some Hymeks and the Colas 47s. The BR green versions (with small yellow panels) are Heljan codes 1707 (D8612) and 1709 (D8500). D8500 is cheaper than D8612 (??88.50 and ??82.50), but I don't know why; no indication that one is weathered.

Curiously, the Hattons website has a similar difference, ??84 for 1709/10 and ??89 for 1707/8.

  9. Two shots of 37 411, taken a couple of years apart. Opposite sides of the loco, but both of no. 2 end. Spot the difference.

Two shots of 37697, different variations on the black headcode at each end - different locations but taken around the same time.
