  1. Mine is still a work in progress, but it is based loosely in the mid 1980's, and by loosely I mean "as long as it's got a TOPS number and the BR Arrows, it's good". http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/18634-piddle-upon-bog/
  2. John, That is exactly what I did when adding Kadee's to my Lima 6-wheel tankers, as you can see below. For these, I've simply used the standard box that comes with the coupler. I have used the #252 on other wagons where, as you've said, space is at a premium. Derek
  3. Perhaps contacting Dapol and suggesting the Toplights? Dave & crew don't seem to be afraid to tackle almost anything these days!
  4. I was thinking the same thing... do you have a diagram or track plan... even a sketch on a napkin to give some idea... Loving the layout more and more!
  5. Hi Dave Looking forward to the Turbots and just placed a pre-order for a couple. Looking at the CAD drawings, I could not help but notice that they are depicting a cranked NEM coupler, similar to what another manufacturer uses. In and of itself, not an issue for most, but those of use who use 3rd party couplers (Kadee, ect) end up having to butcher / modify their models in order to make them line up with everything else. Is the cranked coupler 'set in stone' or is it simply there for show? Thanks in advance!
  6. Umm... not sure what to make of this one! http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Hornby-R-061-LMS-BLACK-FIVE-LOCOMOTIVE-AND-TENDER-GREAT-CONDITION-/151049353709?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item232b3e39ed
  7. Got my loco's back yesterday... all appear well. Will give them a closer look and a test run over the weekend. Other than the damaged Class 50, well done Hornby!
  8. Just got an email from Tanya at Hornby today. She apologized for the locomotive having returned damaged, and has offered to send replacement cab floors. She will also be including replacement coupler cams for my other Class 31's and 50's to upgrade them to the newer one piece style. While I have not had issues with the couplers jamming as others seem to have had, I've had other problems with the older, two piece type. I've found that the weight of the metal knuckle on a Kadee coupler tends to cause some significant droop, with the end result being that the trip arm on the coupler catches on the track with spectacular results. I have one class 50 with the newer one piece coupler cam, and have never had an issue with it. I also got a phone call from DHL last night asking to confirm my delivery address... keeping my fingers crossed that the rest of my loco's are coming home! Will update later!
  9. Finally! Got ahold of Hornby and spoke to Tanya. As pleasent as she was, Unfortunatly, Tanya could not provide any information other than that "They were looking at it" and would get back to me in a couple weeks. When I asked if I was to send the class 50 back, or if they were going to replace the cab floors so I could do it myself, she stated the same thing again... "they were looking at it and they'd let me know". I must admit, this is rather frustrating!
  10. So I bought a pre-paid card and tried calling them. I keep getting a message that the number is not allocated!? The number I copied off their site is +44 1843 233525... Edit: Ok.. so I got through, only to find out they are already closed! Grrr! Stupid different time zone!
  11. I've not called them as I can not call international from my phone... I've had to email and wait for a response.
  12. I contacted Tanya at Hornby the day I received them back, and so far, there has been no answer... and we are going on almost three weeks. Perhaps someone could give them a ring on my behalf if I give them the HB# pertaining to the locomotives?
  13. Got my two 50's back within about three months (one not repaired, see above) but am still waiting on the 31's.
  14. Agreed, but having multiple types of coaches in the same train is the Great Western way! Bow end, sunshine and hawkswrth all in the same tain... with matching liveries... yay!
  15. Still... a roof and ends should be far easier than a whole coach...? Ah well... back to the Toplights... lets see some 57' and 70' varieties from Hornby or Bachmann announced next year!
  16. Not too go too far off topic from the original topic, but one solution would be to include replaceable ends, kind of like the way the current Collett's are done. The ends simply slide off when the body is removed from the chassis, and there is little to no visible gap. This way, only molds for the different ends would need to be created and then two sets could be included with the coach for the modeller to select the version they want? Maybe it's not as simple as it sounds... My favorite has always been the Hawksworth livery. IMHO I think Hornby should, at the very least re-release the existing Collett's in this livery, as the only option I've found so far to purchase them is from our friend(?) Gostude on eBay.
  17. So then maybe not the Concertinas... just the Collet bow-end stock... I'd even be happy with a 'design smart' version of the coach from Hornby with molded hand rails & handles... if done right, that is. They already have the basis for the Collet coach in their (railroad) range, which are not that far off from from being decent models. Adding some NEM pockets and/or CCM and flush windows would really help the existing model. Anyone at Hornby listening?
  18. As someone who does not have an abundance of time to work on the layout, let alone build the stock, I would welcome RTR Toplights... in any livery and length. Looking at the kits that CooperCraft have available, I would much rather spend the same amount on a RTR product than one that I will probably not be happy with and never end up finishing or using. If they were made to the standard of the Bachmann MK1 / MK2 and Hornby Maunsel / Pullman coaches, I would have no problem spending upwards of $50-$60 CAD per coach. Mind you, at those prices, I would probably only purchase enough to make one or two complete sets. And lets face it... 70' GWR coaches would look quite impressive on any layout!
  19. hi all... just got three of my locomotives back from Hornby today. my 28xx and two class 50's. one of the 50's was repaired, while the other was sent back unrepaired. to make matters worse, the unrepaired loco is now in worse condition than when originally sent to Hornby! if you look at my previous posts in this thread, you'll see the pics I posted of "sir Edward Elgar" and the cracks that were visible in the cab floor. I've attached some photos of how it was received this afternoon. needless to say I've already sent an email expressing my disappointment!
  20. When I sent mine back, I only sent the one damaged body, but three 31 chassis and two 50 chassis. Guess they are waiting to send everything all at once... don't blame them as it's cheaper postage for them.
  21. Just to add an update... Got a letter in the mail from Hornby apologizing for the delay as they are waiting for replacement body shells. They were also kind enough to offer a 20% discount off my next purchase from their site. As nice as that offer is, with a 2nd child on the way and only one source of income, I won't be able to partake of the discount. I've emailed Tanya asking if the discount can be transferred to someone else, or if they might be able to supply a few small spare parts in lieu of the discount. I'll update as soon as I hear anything new
  22. Dominion of Canada... in Canada... http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3179424 http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3180680 Class 66's awaiting export from Canada to the UK... http://www.railpictures.net/photo/178889/ And a couple more.. one each one the following pages: http://www.therailwaycentre.com/Picture%20of%20the%20Day%20index/Old_POD_Oct2006.html http://www.therailwaycentre.com/Picture%20of%20the%20Day%20index/Old_POD_Jan2007.html I don't think you can get much more of a British Outline and oversea's...
  23. Not really a British loco, but the Subway (underground) cars for the Toronto Subway in Canada were British built... per wikipedia
  24. As we initially met through an online service, she had plenty of time to run away. When it turned out that she was OK with the hobby... liked cats and NHL Hockey... even loved Doctor Who... I knew I had a keeper! I promptly made it my goal in life to marry her before she had second thoughts! Women like this don't come around every day! It's now been almost three years married, a little one who loves Thomas, and a second on the way, I've now got the excuse reason to chip some Thomas models for the layout!
