  1. Just got an email from Tanya @ Hornby advising that my loco's are with the repair tech's and that I should receive an update shortly. As for the postage being refunded... I hope so... cost me over $200 to send back the 6 loco's that needed to be repaired!
  2. Wow.. I did not realize the amount of froth I was going to be generating! My apologies.. now lets' get back to seeking out the madness!
  3. Ok.. so I have to ask... what exactly is 'the gostude experience'? Reason I ask is he has something listed that I've been looking for... and up until now, have never seen it for sale... and am considering the purchase.
  4. Hi All, I thought I would post an update, or lack thereof.. it's been over a month since Hornby received by package of 7 locomotives as confirmed by the couriers website, but I have yet to receive any word from them, and there have been no answer to emails. I'm sure they have been busy, but surely in the space of 30+ days... someone could have replied to an email?
  5. Had an operating session at my Dad's over this past weekend, and decided to take a couple photo's that we could contribute to this thread. His layout is typically early diesel / late steam... but can be stretched to the mid 60's without much effort. Thought you all might enjoy some (not quite prototypical) photo's!
  6. Did you send it back with or without the body? From what I understand, is that you'll get your loco back quicker if they don't need to source a replacement body as well as the chassis. I could be wrong... but that's just that I have heard/read.
  7. Please do let us know... post a couple photo's if there is something new!

  12. Oh dear... Dapol... you've done it again! Gone and made all those Limby models obsolete! Great work, although my wallet is not very happy!
  13. Just came across this... anyone know if the claims of only 1200 made are accurate? http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Tri-Ang-Hornby-CP-Gondola-car-A-HARD-FIND-/200867869876?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item2ec4a874b4

  16. If Hornby made the upgraded power bogies available as a simple (?) swap out, I would gladly pay for one. That being said, I've not had the problems with my NSE one that a lot of people have had in terms of running quality.
  17. Just got a response from Hornby.... they are asking that I send back ALL the locomotives that are displaying metal fatigue.... that's 7 locomotives! Since none of the Class 50 body shells have any damage, Tanya at Hornby has asked that I keep them at home and not send them back, only the chassis's. I will update once I have more info.
  18. Hello All Tried to call Hornby this morning, and they were already closed for the day! Must be nice! Have to wait for next week as I tried calling them just after 9am local time, and missed them by a full hour! Oh well... Anyhow, had a request for the Catalog and batch numbers for these engines. Unfortunately, I have misplaced most of the instruction leaflets as I tend to only keep one per class of loco, so I can not provide the batch numbers... R2349 - Ark Royal R2374 - Hood R2487 - St Vincent R2429 - Superb Loco's that do not appear to be affected: R2408 - Sir Edward Elgar* R2793 - Dauntless R2575 - Lion *may have shown some whitening similar to image #2 above... not positive however, and will be keeping an eye on it.
  19. Hi All Got around to checking the rest of my fleet. Good news, is that no more of my Class 31's are showing any kind of metal fatigue. Bad news, is that one of my Class 50's is falling apart, and three others are showing possible signs of problems. Ark Royal (click on the pics for high-res closeups of the damage) Hood, Superb and St Vincent have spots similar to these on them I'll be calling Hornby in the morning... let them know that there are more engines on their way back to Margate... *sigh*
  20. Hi Paul I contacted Bachmann as the photo on their site did not allow for clear reading of the lettering on the coach, and this is the response I got... hope this helps!
  21. So I went to take my Dad's 31 apart so as to remove the DCC decoder, and decided to take some pictures. One reason for the photo's is I did not recognize the decoder that was in the loco, and the second reason was to show my Dad what the insides looked like. Little did I know what I was actually taking photo's of! These pictures are taken with a high intensity flash on my Motorola Droid Razr mobile phone... (click on the pics to REALLY see the detail!) Not realizing how damaged the chassis was, as all those cracks are not visible under normal viewing, I wet to but the body shell back on the chassis, and *SNAP!*... Good thing this is already slotted for a return to Hornby! I an going to take a look at my other locomotives when I get in from work tonight and take the same kind of pictures to make sure that I don't have any others that are showing these cracks.
  22. A quick Google turned up D5512 and R2420 as the probable locomotive, but I can let you know for sure over the weekend. I say this as 31 110 is R2421 and 31 270 is R2413, so I think it's safe to assume due to the closeness of the numbering.
  23. Finally got around to checking my fleet of 31's, and found one of them to be displaying a small crack in the corner, below the cab. Not sure of the R number, but the loco is 31 270, I believe out of the original batch? I also have 31 110, the 'Dutch' liveried one, although it is not displaying any signs of damage. I had my Dad check his Green version (also out of the first batch) about a week ago.. no signs of damage. We went to run it last night, and noticed that there were small cracks in three of the four corners... just above the buffer beam. Tanya at Hornby has advised to send both of the damaged loco's back for repair. I was able to remove the body from my BR Blue version in order to get the DCC decoder out, but one of the retaining lugs broke off from the inside of the roof / body shell. It was also quite tight when removing it. I was not able to pry the body from my Dad's green version... so I've included a note to Hornby in the box asking them to remove the decoder and return it with the repaired / replacement loco's. Edit: I also have 31 105, 31 111 and 31174, has anyone seen any problems with these yet? I think someone on the forum indicated an issue with the Class 50's too... any idea as to what of these may be affected? I don't have the numbers handy, but if the 50's are affected, what of the following should I check (they are all boxed at the moment): Ark Royal Hood St Vincent Sir Edward Elgar Dauntless Superb Lion Thanks!
