  1. Not too sure about a Duchess sighting, but Scots, Pats, Jubilees, Brits and 9Fs all visited Rose Grove. No reason why a Semi shouldn't visit, but it would have to be turned elsewhere, although Newton Grove could of course have had a 70' table like Lostock Hall......
  2. Wow what a useful picture at Rose Grove - the first shot (in nearly 20 years of research) showing that end of the North side of the shed (and the back of the concrete hut and toilet block. Most shots concentrate on the locomotives, and tend to be in the same locations. The big opening in the shed side I think was for receiving deliveries of sand. The sand drier was just by (or under the floor) here (according to a fireman from 10F). THANKS for posting.
  3. Some of the best quality photos of Rose Grove I have seen. So useful for the modelling, and fantastic memories of the station from my visit in 1967. Really hope you have more of 10F, but still enjoying others especially around Manchester. Thank you for posting, Steve
  4. Great shots, very useful, especially in colour. Thanks for posting. Great shots, very useful, especially in colour. Thanks for posting.
  5. I'm surprised by this question - a bit like the old length of a piece of string! You need to find a picture, at least, of a similar size of GCR shed you want to model. A drawing from, say, the NRM would be better. However, just from photos of an ex-L&YR shed, you could try 6-8' for the outside pits and 3-4' for the inside ones. Think about access for the shed workers with the doors closed. A bit of research can be more fun than you might think. :0)
  6. Doh, just seen the next post!, Steve
  7. A piercing saw? It looks as if the hole(s) will go to the bottom of the wall so the box can be dropped on. Perhaps the bottom row(s) of masonry will be fixed to the baseboard, to complete the wall when the box is in place. Lovely work, just like your locis. Cheers, Steve
  8. I always stuff some expanded polystyrene down the wiring holes as it stops unwanted stuff falling through. I rip an over-sized lump off old packaging and push in with fine tweezers. Your work looking nice, as always. Cheers, Steve
  9. The Leamington & Warwick Model Railway Society will be holding a DCC open day on Saturday 5th May. The clubhouse will be open from 11:00 to 16:00, and it is hoped that all layouts will be operational, There will be additional DCC reources on hand to help with those DCC issues and queries. All are welcome. Please contact the society for more details at enquiries@LWMRS.co.uk Layouts planned to be running are Clarendon P4; Duxbury OO (with DCC); Kimble O (DCC); Meacham N.
  10. Hi Robin, the first type looks like most of those found at Rose Grove. I suspect that they were installed when the shed yard was re-modelled in the mid thirties by the LMS and are of a lighter weight / cheaper than the older LNWR & L&Y etc. standard designs. We managed to find enough photographs to enable a reasonably accurate drawing to be made, and Pete Bettany of the Leamington & Warwick MRS made a couple of jigs to enable the front and rear 'legs' to be formed from softened steel rail. However it looks like they are too late for you as you have managed to form them from that bending tool! I think that the old Studiolith firm made a similar bending device many years ago. Cheers, Steve
  11. Actually I think that this helps. That link shows exactly why Ron should be encouraged to avoid narrow gauge! The head on shots of the K3 (photo 6) and of theA4 really show up how 4mm scale locos look far too wide for the 3.5 mm scale track. Even the other shots really jar with me as it looks like good model track, but not much like looking at the real thing. What a pity it would be to see those beautifully made viaducts and bridges spoilt with tracks that are so obviously narrower than in any picture of the original. Those sorts of things are important to me, but others have different interests of course. Steve
  12. There aren't any photographs of a wheel drop at Rose Grove, as it was never installed! It was shown on a plan view, along with foundations for an extension to the South side, which also was never built. Enjoying seeing progress on a shed layout. Steve
