The result of extruding the tumblehome using the THIN extrude tool in F360 Kerry in Oz

I had the same problem. I referred to Carl White video lesson 19. Played it through several times, without success. Then I put the offset plane INSIDE the sketch used the THIN Extrude tool and from OBJECT and the sketch extruded following the tumblehome out. Hope this is of some help Kerry in Oz

Andy, As long as there is a measurement, say bogie centers, or wheelbase, I can import the drawing into either Inkscape and scale it for 7mm/ft or into Fusion 360 which is where I am able to draw it up as a 3D drawing. My challenge is to have the parts being such that I can 3D print on the 200 x 200 180 mm bed, or slice complete body units which can then be joined to make up the unit. Chassis and drive mechanism is no problem as i have scratch built several railcars with scratch built gearboxes. Regards, Kerry

Mark and Marc, Buit one several years ago and a second is partly constructed being placed in the work in progress cupboard because I needed something I didnt have from the portable work table. Fred, Is there a difference between the origional BL and the modern Corgie BL. I to have been watching the BL steam loco listings on UK Ebay and wondering why they are suddenly appearing. Kerry in OZ

Having started this thread with my enquiry on the photo, I have risen to the challenge and scratchbuilt my first pre-grouping loco and only the second loco built from a drawing. Mind you the sloping smokebox was quite an exercise to achieve. But i am pleased with it. The salon sides have been cast in polyeurethene and , obtaining some suitable W irons will continue the build after I return from Telford

Another inspection saloon for identification !

Many thanks for the suggestions in identifying the inspection saloon in the photo at the beginning of this topic. I have spent some time following them up , searching UK bookshops internet sites and my own bookshelf. The result is.... I have looked for construction information on tackling the sloping smokebox. One suggestion is to make a dummy unit from card with a template made from stiff paper. Other suggestions are welcome. I have no dimentions on the loco so hopefully I can work that out in Inkscape, knowing that the wheel base of the small unit is 21 ft and that of the large saloon is 30ft. Beside Locomotion,other locos were used namely Crewe built No 1834 , and Columbine Kerry

A couple more photos of the NBR No 312 Inspectors loco. Most of the build was done on my portable workshop while caravanning in the Queensland Outback and not many construction photos were taken. However if you are building one of these, note that the motor is mounted vertically inside the firebox., and you can use 4mm scale plunger pickups. Kerry

Many thanks for the help and suggestions. From Sharmans book The London North Western Railway, Plan 61 it is a Crewe rebuilt of 1874. An Ebay search uncovered a CD of The Locomotive Magazine covering many volumes, in pdf format which may have some further information. All help is appreciated. And, yes the NBR inspection loco is ready to clean prior to painting. Kerry

Hi Bcs, This morning I came across a website selling .stl files for model aircraft building and several youtube videos with assembly instructions. Reading through the post , it crossed my mind of a niche market for someone like yourself with CAD skills to produce railway related items, and sell as .stl files for those who have a 3D printer but lack the CAD skills. Thanks for the info. I shall make a couple up and see how they stand up to our next Queensland summer. To date my coaches are scratchbuilt fron either brass etch,aluminium shells or polyeurethene castings. I think plastikard (HIPS) would only last about 10 minutes before starting to warp. Have just spent 3 monthe in the Coolah area, north of Dunedoo.....any where near you ?, as may be back down into NSW later this year after we get clear medical and flue injections. Having scanned a 4mm scale drawing and saved it as a .png, imported into Inkscape, hand traced the coach side, how do you increase the size 175% before sending to the Silhouette cameo for cutting ? OR alternatively is it possible to increase the size 175% in the Silhouette program ? Kerry

And I have also used the larger 12v motors to drive railcars and vertically mounted for diesel bogies Kerry
