  1. ...Blackgill is once again on the road (or at least it will be by 4pm this afternoon)...this time its a short trip down the A19 to Hartlepool for this weekends show...look out for the 2 iron ore trains passing each other on the bank...its like a festival of 9Fs!
  2. ...you didn't! ...does the govenor know?
  3. ...just in case you're wondering what on earth I was on about...2 Constt iron ore trains? Thi is what the down train looks like... https://vimeo.com/194810405
  4. ...Its only 4 days away!...looking forward to seeing Blackgill with 2 Consett iron ore trains passing each other, I always seem to miss that part of the timetable...Mr Ford (the ownwer) should install a claxon or something so I can scuttle back fom the bar/loo/cafe in time.
  5. ...its that kind of hobby, everyone comes tooled up...
  6. My dad says it all started when we no longer wanted to follow European standards and went it all alone with the usual British half baked fudge (that eventually spawned the EM Blinders and the P4 Boot Boys et al)...just imagine if something like that happened again today... However the question I have to ask is, why does (nearly) everyone hate the lads in the corner with the GW terminus layout?
  7. Hi Porcy I think you're quite right it is more of an event than an exhibition...and it gets bigger and better every year. Congratulations to the North East and Borders group of the EM Society for putting on such a good show...and to the catering team who are always the unsung heroes. Roll on next year. A/box
  8. I was once roughed up by the P4 boot boys, them lads could throw an accurate punch...
  9. Meanwhile... I will be there, with an assortment of 4mm scale wagons on my table and an assortment of 12" scale wagon bits under the table...
  10. ...that curry sounds like a chemical weapon, in which case, according to Reiver tradition (as set out in the original post), you will be made to stand in the cloak room for the day...
  11. ...did I mention its on this Saturday? I can already smell the cakes...
  12. NE1826 is still with us on the Yorkshire Dales Railway, NE9329 spent time in departmental use before going off to Vic Berry's yard in 1989. A/box
  13. WORKSHOPWISE 2017 Saturday 14th October 2017 10.30am to 4.30pm Its that time of the year again when the North East and Borders Area Group of the EM Gauge Society gather in the village hall at Stannington for a day of practical modelling demonstrations... ...also in attendance is a smattering or rather nice layouts; Marine Park Yard ‘OO’ Shankend ‘EM’ Callaton ‘2mmFS’ Middle Peak’EM’ ...and a gaggle of traders and sales stands; Dave Alexander Models Tynedale Trains Smart Models Lanarksdhire Models and Supplies Cumbrian Railways Association Stonybridge Structures In addition this year the EMGS Sales stand will be in attendance...so you can stock up for all those 'winter' projects. Local author Dr Dave Dunn will be projecting railway (he also does ships and buses) images from the collection of the Armstrong Trust...on request he may even do a search for views of your favourite subject/station Stannington is 10 miles north of Newcastle, just off the A1 and the village hall is conveniently situated behind the Ridley Arms public house. Morpeth is some 2 miles up the road and boasts one of the best cheese shops in the UK, it still has a model shop and a rather good micro pub...(whilst talking of good ale, the Anarchy Brewery is a mile up the road.) So what ever your scale/gauge combination (From 5" to 2mm and everthing in between), why not come along for a grand day out. One last thing...the bacon butties at Stannington are not to be missed, not many shows have catering as good as this...for me its cake everytime (just incase the lady who makes the cakes is reading this) Entry is £3 (all this for three quid!) Satnav: NE61 6EL old school: NZ 214794 PS. In true Reiver tradition all weapons and side arms must be left in the cloak room and not taken into the hall.
  14. ...grey (except for your special purple pulling pants)...do I get a prize for getting it correct? A/box

  16. http://i2.wp.com/www.adrianvaughan.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/witham-1.jpg iron ore wagons...but nice 'ghost' through from the end stachions...
  17. Thanks Mark That might well be the section...one of these hoppers has been preserved, however it was rebodied at some time...didn't stop us mind, thanks to our very own Pourcy who had to promise the lads at the Foxfield Railway a couple of pints...we were able to get a close look at the wagon in question...B426618 https://antstrainphotos.smugmug.com/Foxfield-Railway/Railway-Wagons-Cranes/ The underframe showed marks indicationg the section was indeed 6 3/4" wide with rivets spaced somewhere between 4 1/2" and 4 3/4" centres (the rivets had been cut out so it was difficult to be accurate). Uncle Pource was true to his word and I can thoroughly recommed the "One Legged Shunter" at Blythe Bridge... https://whatpub.com/pubs/POT/2869/one-legged-shunter-blythe-bridge The Titanic 'Plum Porter' (which is a regular) is a real gem of a beer and all thanks to the lads at Foxfiled. A/box PS, Not quite sure how he did it but Poursea also managed to scrounge a bag full of Staffordshire oat cakes. PPS, back to 16 tonners, the above link (not the pub one sadly) has some rather natty 16T pics on...
  18. ...rather nice rivetted BR 21T hopper Mr Mane...I bet someone out there has a drawing that shows the dimensions of the top hat steel section used on the stanchions...also, did you know, the ladybird book of 'The Miner' has a rather nice painting of one...anyway back to 16 tonners, do you reckon thats coke in them wagons? A/box
  19. Have a great day Paul...And good luck and best wishes to both of you.
