  1. Here is an image of my 4 CIG's cab front: Dangerous to use a model for illustration, but here the front windows and indicator support the photographic evidence of Gwiwer, acg5324 and Number6: the difference equates to the indicator by the width of the surround - about 1 1/4" (0.4mm as near as makes no difference). The Kernow EP sample seems to be very close to this if not spot on. It is almost impossible to tell without a head-on picture of the sample. Colin
  2. Hi Number6, I had not noticed that feature, but now you mention it, the top edge indicator panel is in line with the cantrail. It should lower according to most photos of this type of cab front, but not all, curiously enough. It would be nice to think that there is still time to iron out these issues, for it does say on Graham Muz's website that there are still a few 'tweaks' to be done: https://grahammuz.com/category/model-news/ (Though how he knows, he does not say.) Colin
  3. Hi Phatbob, just found this photo: https://grahammuz.files.wordpress.com/2016/06/32-640z1464336812_jpg.jpg I am fairly certain that these strips/beads are not repairs (although many 4 SUBs certainly had repair gussets along the bottom edges of their body sides). Photos of 4 TCs in the original blue livery do not show these parts so well as those in the later blue grey livery. Anyway, I did not want to make a big thing of it, but just observed that these features are missing and perhaps still could be added to the model. All the best, Colin
  4. Hi Brian, That is a really fantastic job on the 4 TC interior and those jumper cables are a very clever idea! All the best, Colin
  5. Hi Guy, Forgive the imprecision of my comments re. the beading, but if you refer to the picture in that link (post #338), you will see that these strips were on either side of the passenger doors (all except driver's doors). There was also a horizontal strip on the bottom edge of the cab sides. I am not sure if this strip extended all along the bottom edge the body sides between doors on 4 TCs - as with the 4 CIGs. There is also an excellent thread by Brian Daniels which has photos of his very fine build of a 4 TC in 7mm. These features can easily be seen here (post #2693): http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/1458-brians-7mm-diesel-workbench-4tc-conversion/page-108 Some have insisted that the door panels were flush with the beads on these vehicles (and 4CIGs, 4 REPS) therefore, the doors being slightly proud of the body side panels. Looking at the photographic evidence, I am not convinced, but could be wrong. All the best, Colin
  6. It could just be my eyesight, but are the vertical beading strips missing from these impressive samples? See Ceptic's post #181 here for reference (last photo): http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/51422-4-cig-for-newhaven-harbour/page-8 The gangway connection seems to be a common moulding, cf. the lamp bracket on the inner end of the vehicle in Tom - vac's post #328 photo. I know how some on RMweb hate rivet counters/nit pickers, but these are just observations, perhaps it is too late to change such details now. Colin

  10. Hi John, That is an epic Masokits point you are making! I might have missed the information, but what is the crossing angle of this piece? All the best, Colin
  11. Hi Rich, Very nice outcome on the DTC. I admire the neatness that you have achieved with the lining. All the best, Colin
  12. Hi Adam, The wagons look great and the extra detailing gives that authentic air to them. Looking forward to seeing them finished - cricket permitting! All the best, Colin
  13. Hi Hayfield, I am looking forward to seeing progress on your Ludgate Hill project. Here is a link to webpages which include two versions of the track layout at the station (forgive me if you already have seen this): http://www.crjennings.com/Railway%20Structures%20London/Ludgate%20Hill/Ludgate%20Hill%20Index.html All the best, Colin
  14. Hi Jeff, I am doing well thanks. The 2 BIL chassis are not too far off a 2 HAP version in most respects. For the trailer coach, just removing the three fuse boxes and re-positioning the shorter one in the same place on the corridor side would be just about all that is needed. I have recently noticed that my 2 HAPs are missing their motor generators. It only took me six years to notice! The Hornby drive unit is certainly very smooth and with 2 HALs going for £60 over here, it is very tempting to buy one or two to transform into something based on the common 62ft underframe. All the best, Colin
  15. Hi SRman, That looks like very interesting use of the Hornby 2 BIL chassis! All the best, Colin
  16. Ah, that's better! Really liking the work on the 4 TC cabs Brian. Seeing the latest photos reminds of one thing that has always been puzzled me about these units and the 4 CIGs etc.: the position of the doors in relation to the vertical beading. I was told (no name to be mentioned!), though did not believe, that the doors should be flush to the beading not the side panels. I think your model looks correct. But does anyone know for sure? It would be a long journey for me to go and find a preserved unit to find out... All the best, Colin
  17. 55m of viewable boards?! I had to read that opening post twice just to make sure it was not a typo. The punters at shows will need binoculars. Good Luck! Colin
  18. Hi Brian, Just looking through the pictures of your nice work on the 4TC. I was wondering why the driving trailer coaches have no cab side windows or quarterlights either side of the leading passenger doors?! All the best, Colin
  19. Hi South Central, Nice work on the CIG and looking forward to seeing progress on the next one! All the best, Colin
  20. Hi Rob, Do not feel sad about the 4 SUB. It has gone to a very good home on Howard Bolton's superb Minories layout. I did enjoy building the SUB, but it really was a bit out of place on a layout based on the Newhaven area ! All the best, Colin
  21. Thanks South Central, The new layout has not been started - unless you can count a partly assembled double slip (all 15.5" of it). I am going to sell or break up the original Newhaven Harbour this year, which will give me some space to work on something else, which will definitely be P4. All the best, Colin
  22. Hi Paul, I am just a humble undergraduate reading anthropology. I have just returned from a few days at an ashram near Carmarthen of all places. Besides all the other things that we found out was the fact that the old Aberystwyth-Carmarthen railway track bed runs through the land of this Hindu community (you might remember the 'Shambo the (tuberculant) Bull' saga in the news back in 2007). It appears that the local preserved railway, the Gwili Railway, wants to extend that way and own the land. Could be another standoff soon! All the best, Colin
  23. Hi All, Nice to see this thread has a life of its own! The only 4 SUB news is that it has gone to pastures new (or should that be sidings?) and can now be seen on Howard Bolton's developing masterpiece 'Minories' (cf. the front cover of Scalefour News 195). I am limbering up to convert the 4 COR to P4, but studies at university have slowed modelling progress to a crawl at present. Meanwhile here's a trick shot of another unit which has been converted to P4 and awaits some track to run on (shown still in 00 guise): All the best, Colin
