  1. A short runround on Lulworth isn't necessarily a bad thing, in real life you won't have branches that can take 12 carriage trains so if it's just long enough for a DMU to run down and back that's fine. Remember we mix eras and regions so if we have an NSE DMU in the platform and a steam 0-6-0 shuffling wagons in the yard it doesn't matter. Whilst prototypical operation is preferred, mixing stuff isn't an issue. As for bringing in OO-9, if you can build an interchange board then I personally have no problems with fitting in a OO-9 branch going off in a different direction, you never know I might have managed to get something with those end boards too... Although you'd need shorter legs, and I don't know how high it is, as you can see there's a perfect little stage area for a self contained OO-9.
  2. True, if those here showing interest could add the link to this thread into their signatures like I have, it may bring others over. But I don't want to spam other areas of the forum about it.
  3. It's just a village hall, it has a toilet and a kitchen but that's about it. I don't believe overnight stays are permitted as there are clauses about 'hours of operation' in the hall deeds from when the land was originally deeded to the committee. But booked in advance you can get very good deals on the chain hotels of which we have a fair few within 10 miles due to the closeness of Stonehenge. One of the reasons - apart from giving us a chance to build things - I've set dates so far ahead.
  4. It's already a fairly small village hall I'm using, I'm not sure we can get much cheaper unless it's someones double garage. But it all depends what we are bringing - if we're bringing a straight 4ft plain track board then we won't need much room, or stock, or time. However we've got the possibility of two fiddle yards, two layouts (one through, one terminus) and a couple of intermediate boards, plus potentially some curved boards which I am going to be making which will eventually attach to my home layout as part of its "larger form" for exhibiting, whereas in the shed I'll simply be using setrack R2 and R3 curves to make it fit the space I have available but as it's all being built to the Dave standards they will be usable as modules in due course. We will also need a junction, of some form, in order to add in some route options and give things a purpose. But once we are confident we have enough to go ahead (and let's face it, we are getting there with every chance that people will join us along the way) we can then see what modules people are offering and see if anyone is prepared to build an otherwise "not needed" plain track straight or curved board in order to give us a longer run. If we can make an S shape in the hall then we could have over 100ft end to end at least given sufficient modules, perhaps more if we have junctions and small self contained little projects.
  5. Agree that we don't need a huge amount of people, however the problem is the hall cost. Divided by 10 people, it's very cheap. Divided by 3, you can't help but wonder if it's worth it. I personally wouldn't mind spending £20 but it's only just up the road for me, if someone's then got to spend £40 on fuel to get there and back, or include an overnight stay, then it becomes kinda prohibitive for all but the most hardcore Modular enthusiast. I'm not sure we have any of those yet
  6. Just had my email, my 'shark' is on its way and the other to follow.
  7. Very much looking forward to coming and seeing the new shop in the town centre, only a 15 minute walk from the station too it seems although being local I'd probably drive. Good luck with the expanded venture. Always good to read of shops growing rather than shrinking and disappearing.
  8. I guess running past at a scale 70mph from 4ft away few will notice...
  9. Figures... so none are accurate really lol
  10. That'll be the one, yes. I have looked at the Wikipedia page listing the stock and that's one I'm missing. Unless of course it happens to be "out of service" that day and is replaced by one of the other coaches...
  11. Thanks Dunsignalling, having not got any of the Railroad ones I didn't know whether the expense was purely down to the lights, the fact the Railroad are 'older stock' or whether they really were a much superior model overall that wouldn't have made much difference. Option 1 and 3 remain, I'm not in a huge hurry to have a 100% accurate rake (and let's face it, how many people would know if Perseus was missing anyway...) so maybe I just need to keep an eye out for an individual Perseus before spending about £20 on transfers that I only need one pair of names and blanking boards from.
  12. Hi all I need a Hornby "Perseus" Pullman carriage to complete my Pullman set. Due to the fact it was used in Winston Churchill's funeral train this one seems to be a very difficult carriage to obtain individually - if, indeed, it has ever been listed individually outside of the R4254 VSOE add on pack and R3300 Winston Churchill pack. All of my other Pullmans are the more expensive ones with internal lights. I can find a couple of examples of Perseus available online but they're the Railroad type without lights. Obviously I'd rather not have an "odd one out" which leaves me two options. 1) Buy another random coach with lights and use the Fox transfers to rename a carriage 2) Body swap a Railroad Perseus onto a table light chassis. Anyone been in this situation that can advise what might be the less painful (financially/workwise) option? Unless of course you have a spare Perseus with lights hanging around 'Nut
  13. Completely agree, but since the "Dave" concept was first bandied about the one meeting I organised is the only meeting that has happened with anything modular, and that was three years ago. It seems that we are ploughing a very lonely furrow in a very small field that isn't growing very much at all. I had hoped that we would inspire some other 'local groups' to get together - and perhaps groups could have met to make a larger meeting, as happens with the US modules. Of course, US railroading lends itself far more to the idea of a few small industry modules back to back to have a functional arrangement whereas it doesn't work so well with the "local pick up freight" IMO. But that may be due to not having much knowledge or experience of US railroading - so I'm very happy for someone to prove me wrong and make it work under UK prototype. I agree that existing layouts could be incorporated with very little adjustment, perhaps just different legs and a small 'converter' board on one or both ends, and we had just that with Shillingstone at the last meeting... but again if we end up with 10 layouts end to end and no corners or junctions then the hall isn't going to be big enough either.
  14. That would work, assuming we have enough modules with stations and enough modules with 'purpose' to achieve the above. At the moment I haven't asked what modules might be available - that would be on the sign-up paperwork which would go out in due course should it go ahead.
  15. I think at least 10 is probably a good number for variety otherwise we end up with either all stations, or all plain boards, and no variety, especially last time everything was single track so that did restrict operation somewhat.
  16. So far the most popular 3 dates have 6 votes on them. Ideally we really need a few more people for variety and to cover the inevitable "last minute drop out due to unforseen emergency" to make it worthwhile. We still have a few weeks left on the poll but at the moment I'm not convinced numbers make it viable/cost effective. Be grateful for people's thoughts.
  17. Hi GRC If you'd like to pop over to this thread and do wot it says... http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/133565-rmweb-modular-meet-2-hampshire-pick-a-date/ Please mark your availability on the poll, and hopefully there'll be something that you can meet that's a popular date and we can go from there. Your layout would only be 43 miles from "home" (less in a straight line!) 'Nut

  19. Pleased to say that contact has now been made with SP, the information I needed has been supplied, and once the chequebook I have ordered from my bank arrives I will be able to place an order. Hopefully this will be the first of many, to expand my fleet.
  20. By post? Why have an email contact form on the website if there's no intention of responding to it? I get that it isn't a full time business but I struggle in this modern age to not even have a contact phone number between certain hours. Basically I was interested in one of their kits (a slam door third rail EMU, I forget which one right now) and wondered if the kit as it is was complete to build an unpowered unit (to run with a Bachmann unit or Heljan 33), or whether it's one of these where you get the kit and end up spending as much again on bits to complete it. Am I right in thinking you only need tools and glue as they essentially come ready painted just put the bits together? Just reluctant to spend nearly £100 on a kit that I then can't build until I get all the other parts. Doesn't even seem I can get to an exhibition and see for myself.
  21. I contacted them through their website a couple of weeks ago with some queries about one of their products (as I have never built any of their kits before) and have had no reply. No direct email address or phone number given. No list of exhibitions they might be attending. Although there is Aril 2018 news about. It seems they only take cheques (which I have no idea as it's several years since I used a cheque). Any suggestions?
  22. Given that we have no financial projections or other relevant information regarding this project, it should be easy to factor that in costings and break even points.
  23. So how does everyone else - model railways and otherwise - using crowdfunding manage?
  24. Why not use one of the established crowdfunding methods for these things rather than sending money direct? However much I might want a product, sending large sums of money to an unknown individual with unknown credentials - using a fake name - definitely gets the spider sense tingling.
