Display board rails cleaned; Nimbus disassembled and wheels cleaned and bogies loosened (poor running sorted) and volume turned up; 47 checked; photos printed for photo exhibition and a nice glass of wine. Not a bad evening ;-)

That's one ViT 47 Laserglazed; one to go... although I might leave that until weathered; first one will be quite clean.

I can't praise them enough. On my first 47 (a hacked-about Bachmann) I ended up using Heljan glazing in the scale etched frames - a bit of a faff but worth the effort of that "just-right" look. This time, I've just dropped the glazing for the ViT ones into the holes - after applying black pen around the glazing edges to reduce bleed/prismatic effects and added some klear to the frames. A good snug fit and worth the time taken to improve the look. Now just need to finish the c...

:-( If anybody wants an Ultrascale wheelset for a Heljan 26 in OO please PM me - I ordered in P4 ... looks like their system hiccuped somewhere. Chasing them at present (no answer)... but might be putting on classifieds ... 7 month wait down the drain :-(

Shawplan Class 47 roof fan grills. Not my favourite job... but one loco just needs the ring and the other is still to do but I've not broken any yet. Phew.

Brassmasters 08 coupling rods to puzzle over and a Dapol Western on its way from Liverpool... that and tooling being produced to rectify the front end steps of a brace of Hornby 31s and i think that that's quite enough to be getting on with thank you very much.

This time last year I realised that I'd not be able to get to Warley but received some compensation by winning an auction for a ViTrains 47 - in Virgin Livery... which for the sum of 50 notes I was quite pleased... this year I'm faced with the same restrictions and wont make it to the NEC but coincidentally have just picked up a DRS Compass ViT 47 for about the same price... which is quite pleasing too. The DRS livery is certainly my favourite "modern" livery and it'll be...

Made a visit to the Cheltenham model centre this afternoon... what a wonderful place; nice chat too!

Not enough for a blog entry yet... still feeling my way with this one, but I think the front end of the 31 looks a bit better now. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/image/54862-img-0475-lowres/

Hornby 31... for those that wondered http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/image/54392-31-project-first-steps/

De-glazed a Hornby 31; compared to a Lima 31 and sorted out a plan. Some filing and pulling of parts later and the next project has commenced.

Phew! Fitting all these chairs is a job best done whilst seated!

In the pursuit of finesse and finescale: I've got a pair of Hornby 31s and I'm not afraid of abusing them.

Well chuffed; 6 pages in last month's BRM and now 9 pages in MRJ; 47 project finished and now over 6 and a half thousand views of my flickr photostream in two days... can't be bad!

Would welcome comment on the initial weathering to my 47 http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/gallery/image/53552-47-weathering-first-stage-lr/

Not many more days "off" but with kids and wife out for the morning, I might just be able to break out the airbrush and get some weathering enamels to flow through it :-)

Good point Ian; fortunately the lean-too conservatory is not nice enough to be treated as a proper conservatory so it serves as my boys' model railway room... with their 8x4 oo roundy... and a table upon which I can use the airbrush, with my knocked-up spraying booth. But yes... keep the doors closed to stop the spread of the smell... of which I think the airbrush cleaner spray is the worst offender!

Fettling Laserglaze windscreens for a Heljan 47 to fit my scale screens on my "modified" Bachmann 47. 1 down, three to go... letting the klear dry over dinner. Impressed with the result and only one's done so far!

Going to sample a Chiltern Railways run from London to Brum and back tomorrow... a "different" family day out.

Browsing the WNXX forum and found that the Goyle diesel gala at the Spa valley railway on 2-4 Aug are offering driver exp and cab rides - for

Had two days of trouble free train commuting between Marseilles and Marian ... only to be badly let down today and had to resort to a bus to get us to the airport and (just) make it in time for the flight home. French railways work well.... sometimes!

Drafting a blog update; well it was about time really! Should upload tomorrow... on no, is that the time? later today then Yawn.
