  1. So does the thing reverse in Grantham station at the end of its runs? Living within walking distance of the station I'm wondering if it's worth an early morning/late night bimble over there for a look!
  2. Three separate computers monitor pieces of information, it only takes 2 of the computers to detect the level being too high/low to trip the system, but only one 1 computer detecting it won't trip the system. It means the system isn't prone to a single point of failure causing a trip.
  3. Will it? WIlmslow currently has 1 train an hour direct to London, so with HS2, with direct Manchester to London traffic taken by HS2, more Pendowobbbles could stop at Wilmslow, running 'semi-fast' effectively. As HS2 is designed for the direct traffic, in my understanding.
  4. On a more serious note, enjoy Sultan, the gym is pretty good, as are the few other facilities. If you struggle for internet have a look at 3G dongles or tethering from your phone, I do it on the 3 network and it works far better than the built in wireless. If the food gets wearisome (I presume you eat in the JRAC?) make use of the comments book, but be constructive! Remember, there's always dominos down the road (make friends with a matelot, they get good discount). And there are other places to go drinking than Gunwharf...
  5. Do the RN PTIs run your PT? And, tongue firmly in cheek, remember to talk loudly whenever you walk past buildings on base so as to disturb any on going lessons, I'm sure it's just a couple of you that do it!
  6. Yes thats the one thats been sat ther since last week at least, anybody know why?
  7. Wow... "It was quite a significant fire in the sense that it was a fire on a train which isn't the norm.'' And then the fire brigade fought the fire with ''foam branches'', thats pitiful reporting! On the other hand, good set of photos from GMFRS, and interesting to see they could get a fire engine so close (on the track?) and could bring a forklift truck with them?
  8. I haven't, but theres some right underneath this linky.
  9. Apologies, I didn't realise it was a specialist vessel, I'll go back to the ashes!
  10. Working only from the information in this thread: If theres a grain cargo beneath the locos (a few locos do not fill a Handymax ship) then the loco cannot have penetrated the bilge. From the above quote: Whilst it may not have damaged the bilge of the vessel, it may have damaged the tween deck (inbeTWEEN the hold cover and floor) which the locos would have been secured to in transit.
  11. So far as the lorry on the crossing is concerned - See what the Paper Says. But be aware that Journalists often add their own truth. I think the delay at Cae Pawb (the Network Rail crossing) was caused by missing their timetabled path, and having to wait for the ATW train to cross before they could proceed.
  12. I'm 99% certain its Star City, near Tame Bridge Parkway station, just south of Bescot yard in Birmingham. Behind the 60 is Costco (not a funfair) and Star City (almost a funfair clicky ).
  13. This: clickety click appears to give the FR side of the story. I think the technical difficulties (using heritage stock to try and keep time on a very challenging piece of railway, although journeys to Pont Croesor don't involve 1in40 gradients, further journeys would, and the safety case for the WHR requires braked (air or vacuum I am unaware) stock with chopper coupling) spoken of in the piece may have some credence, as does the differing impression of events I get from the two press releases.
  14. It could just be automatic, as trains don't have different environments, as cars do, i.e. theres no motorways, although I do suppose it would take some serious suspension engineering to create a vehicle that can deal with crossing at 5mph and 140mph.
  15. They've always seemed quite comfortable to me, but thats usually from a tired boy sitting in a seat in the middle of the train, thanks for the replies though.
