  1. Ive had a couple of farish 47s and theyve always run smoothly, only slight niggle is sometimes the rapido can catch on the large oleo buffers. I fancy the railfreight grey one, it looks like the bulbous marker lights on latest batch are only on one end and can simply pushed in, has anyone tried?
  2. My roof is darker than the pictures above. Poor fiddle yard pic but here it is between a railfreight grey 37 and a large logo 47
  3. Ive just managed to obtain 50040 in large logo from a model shop, perhaps a lucky find as most places all sold out. Runs smoothly and quietly, it sits just right and low on its bogies and does look like a 50 should. I didnt need to remove any of the bufferbeam pipework (rapidos on both ends currently) for hauling mk1s around my curves. One thing that looks odd when its next to its Farish stablemates, the roof grey is darker than 37/47s in large logo. The roof colour is almost the same as my railfreight grey 37, from research it suggests the roofs darkened with exhaust soot but wandered if anyone could confirm it should be light grey? It also has a slight masking issue already mentioned as the grey goes across the cantrail grille but I can live with that.
  4. Been shopping here with my dad since it was based in Coalville, popped in recently for some n gauge stuff, highly recommended.
  5. For most people their first train set was probably a OO gauge Hornby. But I can remember when I was about 12 my dad decided to build a trainset and we went to the signal box model shop in Coalville (now in anstey) and we came home with this beauty. 'Masterpieces in minature' they certainly were!
  6. As title, I think these were originally only sold by n gauge society.
  7. Great thank you, so some dcc controllers have ability to set routes, I like the sound of that. But for now it sounds like the simple way to go is traintech signal controller and the dcc concepts ads-sx(with adapters) for points should all work plug and play and both can be powered from the track bus (for remote locations) from what i can tell. Theres also the possibilty to try having the points and signal on the same accessory address on my controller (its worth a try right?).
  8. DCC newbie here! Ive built a large n gauge BR blue 1980s era layout using Kato unitrack and Bachmann Dynamis DCC controller, so far it all runs smoothly. The Kato Unitrack has the points/turnout motors built in, usefully it also has jumpers underneath to decide if the frog is powered and to set power routing. However it is designed to work with the kato switches/powerpack that I dont really want. I also have some Dapol powered semaphore signals rescued from an old DC layout that previously were switched manually using peco switches. For the point switching and signals, Id like to operate these via dcc track bus from the dynamis controller, but Im not sure what I need to buy to be able to do that. The signals I can see a simple solution is to use the traintech signal controller, but here is the twist...Id like to throw some of the points and set corresponding routing signal at the same time, is this even possible? I also dont really want complicated wiring going everywhere and using another power supply. Is there something on the market that will do all this simply, any recommendations? From a bit of googling the kato points need 12v DC 0.5amp pulse to operate, the Dapol signals need (constant) 12v DC.
  9. I picked a blue one up from my local model shop today. Very impressed with it, looks a lot better in the flesh than in pictures in the model magazine reviews. It ran very smoothly straight from the box as expected these days. The lights are not too bright and have a good effect, a nice touch is the internal plastic inserts to stop light leakage. Its a shame about the lack of depth in the underframe and solebar, even the original poole era 25 had more depth!! although somehow it does look better than the 00 version. The brass pickups can be seen through the bogies which spoil the look a little, it didnt take me long to put some black paint on them. In the long run I may re-number and fit snowploughs, the ploughs that come with it sit too far back and are unpainted, it looks like the ploughs that came with the 20 would be a better fit. Cant wait for a retooled 25/3 some blurry pics:
  10. Nice to see the Signal Box have just won the Bachmann retailer of the year. I started shopping with them when I was 12 years old with my dad (when they were based in Coalville) and still visit a couple of times in the year. The shop is well laid out and the stock is always well displayed on suitable shelving/glass cabinets. I like how they always stampt the warranty cards and always test new locos on purchase. They always have some excellent 2nd hand bargains too.
  11. Has anyone took one apart yet, does the decoder fit in the cab?
  12. Im new to the hobby and have 3 of these signals on the N gauge layout Im building and think they are excellent. I have 2 connected so far to the dcc track bus and all seems to work fine after 2 weeks of use. I didnt want to control the signals from the dcc controller so have wired them to Peco passing contact switches in a switch panel bought off the shelf from my local model shop. One annoying thing is that you have to flip the switches slowly as it seems the signals need 0.5-1sec of passing contact to activate the movement..Im not sure if anyone else has this problem?
