Maybe try a small project in N & see how you feel about it. Think of it as being in a restaurant & order steak & chips 'cos you like them, but try the steak cooked differently this time - you still get the 'fix' of the steak & you still get the 'fix' of the railways.

      Just a thought to ponder!

  9. As has been stated before, it was not an era for a myriad of colour, but boy oh boy what a myriad of stock !!!!!! and people called the Blue period boring ????? Lets see what have we got today........... Class 70's in Freightliner, and errr Freightliner, and errr errr Freightliner, oooh look at that EWS coloured one its a Class 66, and look at that Freightliner one its a Class 66, look at that GBRF one its a Class 66, oh look at that First Great Western Bluey Purpley white and pink Loco its a Class 66 Why Blue, because its great, and it was good enough for the Swedish in the same era to give the name "Swedish Blue" to there "specialist" videos that they exported all over the world , they must have loved our locos ?
  10. I have just come across this layout thread - absolutely stunning modelling, you must be very proud of your layout. Best regards Craig.
  11. Why BR Blue ? cos it had proper bog carts running around then, those dirty, smoky rattling things........they were the dogs dangly bits.
  12. Hi, do you have any pictures of the cab front work ? Best regards Craig.
  13. Hey looking at the Howes link pictures, an impressive little railbus, also that hand rail looks to be one of the best I have seen modelled truly lifelike. Excellent Heljan well done, bring on the 128's !!!
  14. Its funny this, as the same seller was selling a Lima, Hornby, Bachmann Class 40 D200 last week, with a picture of the Limited edition Bachmann Model Rail release, when I contacted and asked him if this was the picture in the model, he soon changed it to a Lima version along with the appropriate picture and an apology stating he did not mean to mislead. Hmmm may be not as dumb as they make out....until questioned.... ??
  15. Believe it or not, a bit back when Farish was dormant for the 4/5 years in between Poole closing and Bachmann relaunching them, these Guarantee Cards were hotter than Pokermon cards.

    The plank!

Hi, nice little job you have done there whilst gaining some valuable hands on experience. Best regards Craig.
  17. There was one of these Bachmann 40s that finished last night £56.00 plus £5.50 p+p, I wonder if it was the "unlucky" bidder that did not win the £250.00 one ?? now that really was madness for a run of the mill model.
  18. WOW, what the **** are some people thinking, or not thinking as the case may be !!!!!!
  19. Hi Stuart, nice layout coming along really well, losing your modelling mojo is all to easy with the pressures of real life, but then the again on the flip side, getting back into the modelling can help with regaining your "real life mojo" as well, keep your chin up mate, good luck with everything. Best regards Craig.
  20. Hi is this wagon model from a Southern based EMU layout that was in Model Rail some years ago "I can't recall the layout name properly" but the layout I remember was something relating to Sheppey or the Isle of Dogs.
  21. Wow interesting EMU kit, now a "Southport" layout is tempting, EMU's, Bog Carts and Loco hauled specials, mmmmmmmmmmm, I'd better get back to my Newton Ridley before curiosity gets the better of me.
  22. Hi, this an update on my blog that I have not updated since my first and last entry, I am taking a little break form building up my baseboards to give the details of what this layout is to be about, it will be set around a distance of some 2 to 3 miles from the outskirts of Manchester City Centre, based on a line running down into Manchester Victoria Station, the era will be the 1980's decade which will be allowed to time overlap into the very early 1990's, going no later than 1993. My influences for this layout, are a mixture of Queens Road DMU stabling point, Newton Heath DMU depot, and Manchester Victoria train services, in the 1980's, which I still have fond memories of, as I am originally from Bury "East Lancs Railway fame", my many journeys down into Manchester Victoria on the class 504 EMU's involved them passing over the line that ran into Victoria via the Red Bank, which also was next to the DMU stabling point at Queens Road, this is now the site of the Metrolink depot line. The Bury trains ran into the bay platforms at Victoria, which were next to other bay platforms these would be filled with many types of 1st generation DMU's, 101s, 104s, 105s, 108s, 128s and so on, the rasping sound of exhausts and the heavy smell of diesel fumes ever present in that area of the station. The name for my layout is "Newton Ridley", now I did choose this name because I am a Coronation Street fan, far from it, but I do admit to taking the name from a mix of the infamous Brewery name "Newton and Ridley" and "Newton Heath" DMU depot, I was pondering on a name for the layout by making sure it had a North West slant on it, so this is how I came up with the name, but it so happens that both names have Newton in them...............I am trying very hard to justify that my choices where a more complicated thought process than they really are, but at the sometime just proving the fact that I really am simple in my head sometimes !!! As I stated in my first blog, the layout dimensions are 22.5' long by 8' width at one end and a 6' length at the other end, the layout scenic area will be of a U-shape, it will definitely incorporate a DMU servicing depot and stabling point, there will also be a junction which will involve a double track branch line climbing a gradient then going over the double track main line before the both go off stage, I am still tinkering around with getting a suburban station into the layout, this will hopefully act as the other scenic break, the layout will also incorporate 2 fiddle yards, one will have 3 stabling roads and a through line, and the other fiddle yard will have 4 stabling roads and a through line. I hope to have the track plan uploaded onto the blog this weekend.
