  1. WOW, what the **** are some people thinking, or not thinking as the case may be !!!!!!
  2. Hi Stuart, nice layout coming along really well, losing your modelling mojo is all to easy with the pressures of real life, but then the again on the flip side, getting back into the modelling can help with regaining your "real life mojo" as well, keep your chin up mate, good luck with everything. Best regards Craig.
  3. Hi is this wagon model from a Southern based EMU layout that was in Model Rail some years ago "I can't recall the layout name properly" but the layout I remember was something relating to Sheppey or the Isle of Dogs.
  4. Wow interesting EMU kit, now a "Southport" layout is tempting, EMU's, Bog Carts and Loco hauled specials, mmmmmmmmmmm, I'd better get back to my Newton Ridley before curiosity gets the better of me.
  5. Hi, this an update on my blog that I have not updated since my first and last entry, I am taking a little break form building up my baseboards to give the details of what this layout is to be about, it will be set around a distance of some 2 to 3 miles from the outskirts of Manchester City Centre, based on a line running down into Manchester Victoria Station, the era will be the 1980's decade which will be allowed to time overlap into the very early 1990's, going no later than 1993. My influences for this layout, are a mixture of Queens Road DMU stabling point, Newton Heath DMU depot, and Manchester Victoria train services, in the 1980's, which I still have fond memories of, as I am originally from Bury "East Lancs Railway fame", my many journeys down into Manchester Victoria on the class 504 EMU's involved them passing over the line that ran into Victoria via the Red Bank, which also was next to the DMU stabling point at Queens Road, this is now the site of the Metrolink depot line. The Bury trains ran into the bay platforms at Victoria, which were next to other bay platforms these would be filled with many types of 1st generation DMU's, 101s, 104s, 105s, 108s, 128s and so on, the rasping sound of exhausts and the heavy smell of diesel fumes ever present in that area of the station. The name for my layout is "Newton Ridley", now I did choose this name because I am a Coronation Street fan, far from it, but I do admit to taking the name from a mix of the infamous Brewery name "Newton and Ridley" and "Newton Heath" DMU depot, I was pondering on a name for the layout by making sure it had a North West slant on it, so this is how I came up with the name, but it so happens that both names have Newton in them...............I am trying very hard to justify that my choices where a more complicated thought process than they really are, but at the sometime just proving the fact that I really am simple in my head sometimes !!! As I stated in my first blog, the layout dimensions are 22.5' long by 8' width at one end and a 6' length at the other end, the layout scenic area will be of a U-shape, it will definitely incorporate a DMU servicing depot and stabling point, there will also be a junction which will involve a double track branch line climbing a gradient then going over the double track main line before the both go off stage, I am still tinkering around with getting a suburban station into the layout, this will hopefully act as the other scenic break, the layout will also incorporate 2 fiddle yards, one will have 3 stabling roads and a through line, and the other fiddle yard will have 4 stabling roads and a through line. I hope to have the track plan uploaded onto the blog this weekend.

  7. This didn't take long did it ? ?, poor Steve Jobs is not even in the coffin yet ............... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RIP-Steve-Jobs-Action-Figure-1955-2011-Free-World-Wide-Shipping-/320771015017?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item4aaf714169
  8. Hi Coachman, is that Slaters by any chance ?
  9. Ladies and Gentlemen, we run a Family owned Garage Business, of which one part is a Petrol forecourt, we get our fuel from one the Big four fuel suppliers, and lets say this game is not the best one to be in at the moment, but fuel is a need that gets customers into our site. Now we have had a tanker delivery today, of which it was made up of 18,000 litres of Petrol and 18,000 litres of Derv, and if I tell you that the invoice for this amount is £41094.00 + VAT, and we will make approx £1008.00 profit, which will then be subject to 20% VAT, you wonder why Independent Garage retailers have packed up and sold the land or used the property for other purposes, in truth it is sickening. I'm not to sure how many people understand how much of a litre of fuel the Goverment make, so here is a breakdown on yesterdays average prices. The average pump price of petrol in the UK yesterday was 134.8 pence per litre, fuel duty prior to the pump sale is almost 58 pence per litre, then the sale of 134.8 pence is subject to 20% VAT, this is 22.5 pence, so on every litre you are buying at 134.8 pence, the Goverment has 80.5 pence. Tthe Garage retailer themselves make between on average 2 - 3 pence per litre depending on the price at purchase, the rest is the supplying Oil Company.

  11. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Hornby-BR-CLASS-31-DETAILED-WEATHERED-DCC-SOUND-SUPER-/320712428571?pt=UK_Trains_Railway_Models&hash=item4aabf34c1b#ht_954wt_932 Hardjeff needs to think of the HSE implications when weathering so called "workaday" models, imagine the Driver and co driver in the cab of this baby trying to see where they are going .
  12. Wow he really must catch some real suckers out there.... he has got more neck than a giraffe with some of these prices for what is tat.
  13. Hi I bought some 6x2' boards from this ebay supplier, but I rang him direct and spoke to Steve, he sent sent me 3 x board frames, 3 x board tops and delivery at a fantastic price as I dealt with him directly, and we cut ebay out of the loop, and he was so trustworthy, that he sent me the stuff, and asked me to send him a cheque in return !!! It may seem expensive at first glance, but once you get some prices for timber, and fixings, and then your time it all adds up, just going off Steve's 6x4' board price of £75.99 + P+P, and top, ring him and it will definitely be cheaper, it goes together quickly and sturdily and square, and if you equate your time into £££'s / hour labour you may find its worth it. I have no ties with this company, I am just a very satisfied customer. Best regards Craig.
  14. 15. Do they do a long wheelbase bogie hopper to carry your schnitzels in just behind the loco, and then this allows you to dip them in the mustard hopper attached to the rear of the train ?

  21. Hi Bob, I run the original release of Prodigy and SVDA usually means there is a problem with something short out the track power and this should be kill off the power almost immediately. Is your Friend using the earlier Hornby chips in his locos, as this mixture of Prodigy and earlier Hornby chips leads to the "run away" loco sympton, and you cannot stop the loco whatsoever with the stop button. I would try another loco on the system just to check out the chips, before pointing the problem at the Prodigy. Best regards Craig.
