    Something different at the bottom right of the firebox - no idea of what they are.

    Will the wartime locos come with blackout curtains as all wartime ones would have used them at night ?

    Did the fish vans only run in dedicated fish express trains, or were smaller numbers cut out of the expresses to go to as part of ordinary fast goods to smaller destinations ?

    Also, why did they have steam heating pipes as I thought fish needed to be kept cold  -  were they just steam through pipes ?

    To start with they'll produce stuff that sells well to establish a new scale in the UK. Bearing in mind that the Southern is probably the fourth most popular of the Big Four and even modern stuff is more popular it's unlikely for several years. Though we could see a Southern express loco in 5/10 years. It's not an embargo, simply common sense when looking at potential sales.

    Any evidence for that rather silly assertion ?

    Southern models (pre-grouping, grouping and British Railways are extremely popular, only Hornby seem to have gone off them.

    I hope that Hornby will produce a Southern Region "C" or "700" class 0-6-0 (or at a pinch an N class 2-6-0) as they otherwise seem to have a total embargo on Southern items.

    The problem is that everyone want a 'generic' range of coaches, that happens to be a precisely accurate model of the particular coach they need!

    .

    NO.

    I, at least, understand what the word "generic" means.

    It is the livery that matters.

    One of the manufacturers really has to bite the bullet and produce a full range of "generic" short (ish) bogie coaches suitable for the (approx) 1900 to 1920+ period.

    I know that the newish manufacturers concentrate on accuracy, but someone has to do them and the different liveries will take skill.

    ..... As for EMUs - hmmm - a service made up of 2BIL, 2HAL & 5BEL units is hardly prototypical ........

    Yes,  At the minimum a 4-COR and 4-SUB.  Both prototypically wore Southern Railway green (including WW2), Southern Region Green and BR Blue.

    Now that most of the initial fuss over the Class 11 release is over is it the right time to ask whether Model Rail will go ahead with the Southern Class 12s, and if so, when ordering may be opened ?

    I hope they do go ahead.

    As we have already stated we have thousands to process and we will get to everyone's in due course.

    .

    Hopefully that means that they will be profitable, and Kernow will be able to produce another ( Southern 😏 ) oddity just as popular.

    I will agree with others that that power bogie is a wonderful work of art.

    I await my two with baited breath (and greed).

    This lists mainland Southern Railway termini (other than those in central London), those with a red background had been electrified by World War II and those marked with a ¶ were habitually worked by pull & push rail motors for at least part of the Southern Railway/Region period (although not necessarily exclusively). Some existed only for part of the Southern Railway period (some very briefly indeed). A few through secondary lines were also partly worked by rail motors.

    The only SR pull & push units available ready-to-run from the "trade" have been very limited in scope  being either convertions from Maunsell SO and BCK carriages which only existed as such for a few years in the early 1960s or ex-LSWR gate stock which was only used on a few of South Western branches.

    .

    To the central section you could add West Croydon/Wimbledon for the Mitcham branch.

    Wow !

    Hornby have really gone off the Southern !

    Still with more announcements during the year  ( anyone have any details ? )  there is still some hope.

    Hope these sell well for Hornby.

    Perhaps a basket of racing pigeons and a station's official mouser on patrol?

    https://www.crosscountrytrains.co.uk/blog/days-out-uk/train-station-cats-of-the-uk

    There was an era when baskets of racing pigeon were regular livestock/freight on trains.

    .

    There is a short video of a Stanier 8F pulling south out of East Croydon with 21 associated full brakes of all different types  -  no proof, but I have always ASSUMED this was a pigeon racing special going down to the South Coast for a long distance race.

    I am holding on for a really good Stanier 8F as it is an "honest" rule 1 for me.

    EDIT ;

    On this link ;

    On page 17 of 35 there is a photo listed, possibly, of the same train ;

    X704 #   -  Stanier class 8F 2-8-0 48544 heading a Newcastle to Hove pigeon special, formed of 21 bogie vehicles, through East Croydon;  -  ¾ view  -  4 June 1965
