  1. Some fantastic scenic modelling and weathering here! The colours are really well chosen to give a natural effect of distance. I particularly like the wooden station building and the track ballasting.

Many thanks for your comments and some when I will get on actually building something, somewhere on the layout!

I think it's time to finish the field by Encombe Station with potato plants.....

  2. You didn't mention the Peoples Independent Republic of Horrocksford and the Haverfordwest Community Paradise, both of which stand firmly, shoulder-to-shoulder, with all those resisting the ever-advancing encroachment that seeks to subjugate our green and pleasant land and turn it into a totalitarian enclave for elitist rivet counters.

All comments noted and past onto the Parish Council for them to discuss with the Muddlites

  3. Chairman,

    My concerns are

1 The need for 10 new dwellings in Little Muddle has not been demonstrated.

2 Highways Department are concerned that safe vehicular access has not been provided

    3. No off-street parking is available

    4. The development detracts from rather than enhances it's surroundings

    5. The high roof profile will deprive the ladies lavatories in the station building of light

However I am pleased to see small business units. These will be able to employ agricultural workers displaced by the introduction of powerful tractors powered by internal combustion engines.

It is 1936 so the only off street required needed is for the horse and that can chew on the grass.

The rest are noted and will dealt as part of the planning conditions......

  4. I am hoping that the new builds will be constructed substantially better than the tumbledown cottage. It seems to have been built with whitewashed timbers forming the roof rafters and trusses.

Can I presume that the steam roller is an ancient Roman one? It appears to have a seam on the rear rollers and I believe that this was for the purpose of forming chariot wheel ruts.

The RSPCA are concerned that unpainted dogs may be leaching chemicals into the atmosphere or is this just radon coming to the surface?

Noted and the new build will be built to quality that enhances the surrounding area or what I have kicking around...

What don't you recognise a superstar when you see one, its Rolly from Bob the Builder, do you want his autograph?

OK 'll get a coat on him to cover up, he was ill you know but now he's been re firred.......

  5. I've sold the MiL to a generous Sheik as a useful, if vocal addition to his harem.

As a result I now have enough for a goodly sized deposit on one of the houses.

To whom do I need to apply.....?

Blimey, not only do I need a Press Officer but an Estate Agent as well.

Better add a sales office to the plans ready for the influx for would be owners.

  6. Is the committee sure than such an urban-looking row of terraced houses would suit the rural nature of the local environment ?

I put it to you, sir, and I am unanimous in this,, that such an undertaking could lower the whole tone of the area.

They'll be nicely done using the best sourced materials from Homebase.....

Are there any plans for a converted barn? Or didnt barns convert in the 40's? Maybe it was a cider apple pickers barn.

If Muddleshire CC are not invited to visit they may drive a steam roller right through your plans.

Barn idea, had this in the back of my mind to build one in the group of trees by the creamery......one day

Oh not another meeting, I'm running out of tea and biscuits

To late looks like they have arrived.....

  8. I think the entire readership ( planning committee) would like a site visit.........

Better get the tea and biscuits out then!!!!

Might be a bit of a squeeze in the railway room but if you can all breath in......

  9. It's looking good Kevin. Are you showing those pics to the Muddleshire County Council planning Department.

Scheduled for this mornings committee meeting, fingers crossed but the Chair has been in contact to ask me to ensure that there is some colour to the buildings as the off white/grey looks a bit bland.

  10. Kevin,

After a quick search they available under the Dartcastings banner -

    L94: GWR PLATFORM GAS LAMPS

    Full harp on short posts

    (OO Gauge / 4mm Scale)

    Supplied unpainted

    Price: £ 6.00

You know, you are right I brought these ages ago, could have sworn that's where I got them from!

I've just had a rummage through the draw where I keep the instructions etc. and out popped the card backing to the packaging - Dart Castings.

Just checked on their website and the gas yard lamp is also from them........??????

The old memory is certainly playing up.

    Thanks

Whilst perusing these latest photographs I noticed the rather nice ornate station lamp. May I ask its original source please.

Langley Models both the station and yard lights.

Nice models but you'll need patience with them as they are fiddly.

Here's a picture of one, slightly out of focus as I was centring on the poster

  12. Well here we go then, just finished the mock ups after spending a while rummaging in the wheelie bin for card........not using my good stuff.

First impressions are good, though there is a gap behind the station building but!

The advantages of making card mock ups, so easy to change and alter.

I shall now leave for a day or two to see if it grows on me!

Hopefully the planners, objectors and Little Muddle Gazette readers approve?

EDIT - the back scene will also change with buildings added etc.

  14. “I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Field, to ride out the storm of unscrupulous developers, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone.

At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do. That is the resolve of His Majesty’s Government-every man of them. That is the will of Parliament and the nation.

The British Empire and the Brent Republic, linked together in their cause and in their need, will defend to the death their native soil, aiding each other like good comrades to the utmost of their strength.

Even though large tracts of Devon and many old and famous counties have fallen or may fall into the grip of the Brexiteers and all the odious apparatus of EU rule, we shall not flag or fail.

We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in Devon,

we shall fight on the seas and oceans,

we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Field, whatever the cost may be,

we shall fight on the beaches,

we shall fight on the landing grounds,

we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,

     we shall fight in the hills;

we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Field or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.”

Oh my that brought a tear to my eye, the power, the majesty, forever we go.

    To that end, I quote:

Objectors to the right of them

Objectors to the left of them

Objectors to the front of them

Shouted and abused at about a frog

Storm'd at with mud and stones

Boldy they strolled with no groans

    Into the jaws of objection

    Into the mouth of moans

Rode the labourer and his unpainted dog

It gets you there, right there........

  15. Wot, no prefabs?

Confirmed, I'm having enough problems with the planners and you lot without throwing prefabs in the mix.

Anyway this layout is meant to be around the mid 1930's and I've just checked with Wikipedia which states they where not envisaged until the Housing (Temporary Accommodation) Act 1944 by no less a person than Winston Churchill to overcome the post war housing shortage.

    So that's that problem sorted,.

    Next

  16. This is really rather splendid.

Looking forward to finishing work and reading this thread properly.

    Bloody good show!

    Rob.

    Many thanks.

I do appear to have caught a lot of peoples imagination with this thread going by the comments I'm getting.

Never fear, chocks away chaps and I will battle on to the bitter end with this redevelopment regardless of the stress and pressure I'm under from all the objectors and negative press it's receiving......

  17. Just been through all the pages of this thread - hence all the 'likes' etc.  Will go back and read every word at leisure.  A lot for us to learn here.  Absolutely fantastic stuff.  Especially love the trees, river and structures.  And it's got small prairies too!  Wonderful.

Many thanks for your comment, I just wish I had more space like you.

When I started my layout we still had a full house otherwise it might have been possible to have crept into the third bedroom, whilst no one was looking, which is nearly twice the size plus the loft was ruled out as it's 'W' trusses - would be possible but expensive so the forth bedroom it was.

Whilst posting I did notice a continuous stream of notifications coming through, thanks for those.

  18. Well the next instalment of the planning for the development of the field behind the station.

Had a complete re-think as it was just not looking or feeling right - came to the conclusion I was trying to cram to much in.

So went back to basics and said - what was the area like before the railway turned up, buildings and roads demolished in order to get the station to link up with the harbour.

Once I had that in mind I omitted the large house - never would have been built there in the first place if I'm honest, turned the cottages around so now looking at the front with an old lane in the front and a cut off road when the railway came along.

Much smaller industrial area to link with existing building and a footpath to the station for access to the houses at the rear.

Shaping up better, now for the mock up buildings to check visuals, plus the current industrial building (which is on a removable base) will move approx 10mm back to give access around the rear of the station fencing.

Still away to go but the balance is better....

  19. I believe having read the local register in the Little Muddle Council Chambers there was a transient guard Albert Postlethwaite who travelled down from the Manchester area and settled in the area.

He was taken on by the railway and took residence in one of the cottages close to the station. As life progressed he married and had a family which required a larger property with a proviso that he had sufficient room in the back yard for his passion which was ..... Pigeons!

I'm not certain if he was allowed to keep them but one can only wonder !

    Reginald "Birdy" Thwaite

    Ex Town Clerk

    Little Muddle

Many thanks for this, I have no excuse now but to visit Pets R Us to buy a bag of pigeons to go in the loft......

If this major development goes ahead then Little Muddle could become confused with the neighbouring village of Greater Muddle. :)

The two could combine into a Bigger Muddle?
