  1. Not so. Before Cl.47 became the motive power of choice for GE expresses, Cl.45 were trialled. Some pics exist in one of Dr. Ian Allan's GE pictorial books. C6T.
  2. On the contrary. NXEA always have a hired in Gronk at Clown Point. Mostly for use as depot pilot but it occasionally collects stock off specials and the like and drags it off to NCP. It'll usually be on the back of the depot, briefly visible from trains crossing the river. C6T.
  3. ...and the second. Actually it's a poorly disguised ploy to up my reputation score within the cool crowd in mentioning (in a round about way) Ed Norton and Pink Floyd within the same post! C6T.
  4. Mahatma Ghandhi. Sorry, is this Fight Club, or pie of the month...TAXI! (...with the club pie, and the firm handshake...) C6T.
  5. Greetings fellow X10 user, have you tried resaving the bookmark in full web view or checking your browser view settings? Apologies if this is an egg sucking lesson, and to the iPhone users for going off topic. C6T. (Could've told you the Windows phone would suck, it's got Windows on it...)
  6. Quality Assured - We've done the absolute minimum to gain accreditation from a body that believes we know what we're doing. Master Craftsman - We gave them £500 for a window sticker. Investor in People - We pay wages. C6T.
  7. Absolutely luscious! Your BR blue period reminds me so much of visits to Bristol back in the day. Well taken pictures too. C6T.
  8. Well done the Posh on gaining promotion (again), hopefully this time round there will be a bit more stability and rather more three-pointers. Departure of Craig Mackail-Smith is a worry though! C6T.
  9. I'm not happy. Dad and I went to the last Bruntingthorpe cold war jets open day last year and have been looking forward to the next one (today) for ages. The forecast says cloudy and windy but no rain, and I have since found out the Vulcan will be taking off at the end of the day. However, a stewing cold really kicked in on Friday and Dad is "delicate" after a day on the pop. Subsequently neither of us relish the prospect of seven hours in 20mph winds on an airfield. I shall probably spend the day grumpy watching the Grand Prix. Bah, C6T.
  10. has just been paid and is off to Bury St Ed's exhibition later. Oh dear!

  11. The sole reason I look forward to the fairground coming to town these days is that British trucks still seem to be the prime movers. Unfortunately as the travelling folk renew their vehicles with newer ex fleet lorries, the likes of Seddon, Leyland, Guy and ERF seem to be on the wane. C6T.
  12. Good Golly Miss Molly-Little Richard.
  13. Arnold Lane exhibited today at Dereham, its first outing without its much missed builder Keith. The feeling that honouring Keith's memory by fulfilling his exhibition commitment and the fitting of a brass plaque was the right thing to do was borne out by the kind words and sense of loss from those who knew him. Fortunately we have this layout (amongst others) to remember him by. A special thank you must go to Kevin Dickerson of Coastal DCC for his expertise and generosity, without whom Arnold Lane would have had to rely on just two operable locomotives. Who knew a track circuit fault (usually through operator error admittedly) would revert ALL the cheaper chips back to address 3? Not me! C6T.
  14. It is intended at this point in time by members of the C56G and SRC to honour the exhibition commitments made by Keith to display Arnold Lane at the shows he had listed earlier in this thread starting with Dereham next weekend. I personally believe this is what he would have wanted. Keith built the layout for a purpose and it seems the right thing to do to fulfill the intention he had. I shall be getting a plaque made tomorrow which will be fitted to the layout dedicating it to his memory. Carl.
  15. Greetings Mr. Wright. I was starting to wonder when you were going to make an appearance! It would seem I've made a rod for my own back with the 58. I hope I can match that quality on the next one! I'll be getting nameplates but only days before the Dereham gig. Let me know which locos and when you want to chip them, I'll fit the plates before the show. Later, C.
  16. If you have any old/tired/well used track rubbers knocking about, cut out the largest circle of rubber you can and put a hole through the middle. Attach to a long screw with some washers and pair of nuts to lock the rubber tight and put the free end of the screw in your hand held Dremel/hobby drill. You've now got a track rubber whizzy wheel. Take care, especially where sanding pipes are near the wheel to be cleaned. Cradle? Plonk the loco upside down in the four-foot of a length of spare, straight track with some thin foam as paint protection. A pair of wires from a track feed occasionally touched on the wheels of said loco will negate the need to keep lifting the loco off and onto your cradle. C6T.

  18. To return to the origins of this thread, as Mr. Dunn is commonly referred to as Freebies International (amongst other things) by some of my friends in the particular loco preservation group I belong to, and is believed to frequently eschew the most basic form of funding preservation (buying a train ticket) in favour of asking "Do you know who I am?", he is in absolutely no position to suggest what anyone does with their paid for property. Further, what if owner of 34XXX "Wibble Bejang Shipping", a rusting hulk, actually pays rent to the railway to keep his loco there? Hmmm? C6T.
