  1. LNER N1 with twin set en-route from Keighley to Bradford. It looks like Coopercraft have their Kirk coach kits back on the market, so am making enquiries to see if the parts needed to construct this pair of coaches can be obtained.
  2. A further note. Does Mrs.ACG-Mr mind you putting that model next to the bread board?
  3. The three trees in the first picture look like 4 seasoned warriors from the fauna world marching up the hill, each with his own character. That's what you need to aim at when making the models! Second image: Do you mean the lonely wind swept elm or the super elevated hansom 48003 coasting light engine through platform 2! I can honestly say that I've never seen a urinal so well modeled. I bet it was a bit dicey getting reference photos! Excellent stuff on this thread as always! Regards Shaun
  4. Congratulations on 4000:O posts! Window panes are always taller than they are wide as are the windows themselves! Wills windows are easy to cut and shut. ie: take two 12 pane windows and cut them both so that when you glue them back up you have an 8 pane window and a 12 pane one. This window was made by scribing the bars onto the clear plastic and rubbing white acrylic paint on and wiping it off leaving the paint in the scribed lines then framing with wide evergreen strip! Its is the easiest way to make a particular window! Best to scribe a sheet and cut individual windows from it. The windows I have just made for Queensbury station by cutting individual bars from strip and super gluing on took for ever, ruined a great pair of tweezers and tried my patience to the limit! Perhaps the paving could do with some scribing also, to make it look more like stone as the slabs look way too big. Your best bet is to take a block and sand paper to the stone sheets from the kit! They can be easily replaced. Hope this is of use Regards Shaun.
  5. This is encouraging! Not sure how to faithfully reproduce those ornate railings there are 180 fancy bits . I wont be able to afford to commission an etch. They look too fine to get lazar cut. Scale link don't make anything like it. So might just hack up some Hornby footbridges or might just have to bite the bullet and get some ratio kits!
  6. Lights in the station....... Awesome! Trees from Ethernet cables ........very resourceful indeed! Saw dust is about the best thing I have found to mix with PVA, a little water helps too!
  7. You have done more than enough for this thread already as far as I'm concerned mate!!!
  8. One problem mounting the switches on the train is that when using Kadee couplings the magnets in the track would uncouple stock and the stock uncoupler magnets would cause an unwanted flash! I still like the capacitor discharge unit idea. That way one circuit could control all the flashes on a layout and it could be linked to a single sound circuit via a relay.( on a smaller layout ) On a DCC layout could the magnets/reed switches be set up to command the flash? Or is that too advanced. I'm not DCC, so am totally in the dark here!!
  9. Thanks for such a great response folks! :fan: :fan: After studying this topic some things have come to light, for instance. Flashes only occur when the pick up shoe leaves the third rail. Camera flashes are brighter than LEDs. Bright Blue LEDs give a better effect. Diesel locos wont cause an arc. There is a simple circuit! It is my opinion that reed switches between the sleepers triggered by magnets placed under electric stock at just the critical point would be the best option. Despite Some advantages DCC might have, I think the arcing should be something that is not controlled by the push of a button but that which occurs as per prototype. I'd go with the simplicity of Dutch Masters circuit.
  10. That's the kind of thing I was on about! Simple. I think Dutch Master has the answer to your question Bigbeeline. That'll look fab on Falmer!
  11. Have started a thread with you in mind dt. Just an idea. Regards Shaun
  12. :nono:Build the body shell and fill all the gaps then paint !!!!! The stone sheets are nice and can be obtained separately for 3quid! (Use of the word Quid because my keypad only has $ key)so why not sand the stone flatter to represent that of the police house!
  13. The idea for the layout would be to view the scene from the opposite of that in the picture above. The viewer would be looking up hill under the viaduct towards the tunnel and up towards Queensbury beyond! The link in my previous post suggests that trains were timed to arrive 3 at a time enabling connections between all three towns. Not complicated if you think about it but more expense on my part! After seeing Als footbridge on Bakewell I'm tempted to have a go at scratch building the footbridge and two walkways rather than raid the bank account for 3 Ratio footbridge kits. All tunnels and bridges will be done using the scribing technique. Base board construction will be open frame and utilize off cuts from my cabinet making business and house renovation. Some older tender driven locos might get put up for auction to raise funds for the loco projects involved (They never get run anyhow) We have boxfuls of scenics. That just leaves the track, point motors and signals! Excited Sasquatch.
  14. There are plenty of southern electric layouts being built at the moment and the old grey cells have been keeping me awake thinking about how to reproduce this. No doubt it has been done before. The best I can come up with involves reed switches under the ballast and magnets under the bogies. A capacitor discharge unit to power small bright white LED circuits triggered by the reed switches. On DCC the LEDs could no doubt be mounted on the train and triggered by a command. I know nothing about DCC so feel free to correct me. Anyone got any better ideas or knowledge on the subject? Shaun.
  15. More pictures of the real thing with kind permission of John Alsop. The booking hall was accessed via a walkway/foot bridge as it is situated at one corner of Queensbury triangle. This picture taken above the Queensbury tunnel in the sixties, shows the building at top right with the approach road and viaduct over Hole Bottom. The small pit was serviced by a rope worked tramway which has been subjected to land-fill in this view. The siding within the triangle will not be modeled as it was added in the sixties probably for land-fill purposes. More great reading http://www.communigate.co.uk/brad/claytonhistorygroup/page11.phtml
  16. Wonderful engineering Mike! If we can see what's what under there from your pictures, fault finding will be a doddle. Not that there are going to be any! Wood work is tops too BTW. Don't you just love this hobby.
  17. Did your box leak like ours? I had to sleep out on the grass as dad was always worried I'd step on his Z gauge set up! Enough! Jaz, where did you get the camp RAC man?
  18. Thanks dt! Had resorted to dipping the tiny parts in a small puddle of cyano and wiping most off before placing very carefully. The particular glue used is clear so the misplacements don't show up too bad. Painting them after was a nightmare in itself! I messed up on the open one but it will be under an awning behind the walkway so hardly seen.
  19. Today I managed to make the last 5 windows, form the roof from Wills slate, paint and fix the windows. In hindsight the interior could have been done before assembly. Next time I make a building with this method, the half paneling, fire places etc will be scribed on and painted first. Tomorrow, doors, chimneys, details. .
  20. Great project!! The sort of thing to get ones teeth into!
  21. Always love to see others wiring. Am looking forward to this, if the neatness of the woodwork is anything to go by then there's no doubt we're all going to be put to shame. Especially me!
  22. British Summer Time! Our clocks change tonite! I was up late (nothing new there) with no lie in due to cat fetching us a leveret.
  23. The girls at wildlifeimages were very happy to take him. They seemed very confident about knowing their stuff having saved jack rabbits before and are knowledgeable about the needs of babies. Hope to get these windows done today as Mrs. S. is due home late which also means I'm cooking. So a full roast chicken dinner me thinks. I leave you with another staged shot of 8F and a flying pig at Goathlands summit.
  24. Was looking forward to getting this building finished today..............but the cat dragged in a baby Jack Rabbit last night. They're actually hares and very delicate creatures so I have called around and the local wild life place are going to be very happy to take it. I've no other choice as returning it to mother is a no go. I just hope he makes it cos the place is quite a ways and is gonna cost half a tank of diesel. I must be hopping mad.
  25. The deer or my Dutch? You're up late or are you on BST already?
