How did you do it @RapidoCorbs

Roof off, scalpel blade to break the seal on the sander rod (which is in a slot) and popped it out, then manipulated the interior wall (and gently pushed the side walls outward) to break the bonds and slide it out.

Two razor saw cuts, then scored the top of the door with the scalpel (in hindsight it could likely have all been done more neatly with the scalpel by scoring the door frame).

Slid the wall back in, glued the sanding rod back on, then cleaned up the door itself , painted the edges and glued it in (all with Roket card glue).

You must be representing a balmy, warm summers day, Corbs, although opening the door is one way to see some of the interior!

No good on a bitter winters night with a freezing easterly wind blowing...

Haha true! On the BHR we operate with the door latched open (so that we have direct line-of-sight into the passenger wagons) so I wanted to mimic it, although don't think I'm brave enough to open up the central rear shutter.... yet.

  3. One of the things I really like about HZD is that if you die, it actually puts you back to a save point and everything that happened since that point is forgotten. I love the Assassins Creed games but hate their save system where most of the time, everything up to the point you died 'stays happened' even if you respawn.

Lol, which "Redhead-badass-sim" in particular Corbs? I was having some grief with the RMWeb image editor posting pictures when you posted so don't know if you mean Horizon or Jedi?!

    C6T.

haha, both come to think of it! Did Jedi  last year and really liked it although I did find the lack of fast-travel once you were 'on world' a bit tiring.

Currently playing HZD and trying not to fall in to the trap of trying to 100% it on the first go as I did with Jedi.

  5. We are chuffed to bits at Michael Russell's build of our 16" Manning Wardle saddle tank kit in this month's issue of British Railway Modelling!
Michael has gone the extra mile with this version, adding the reversing rod, modifying the wheels and even including DCC firebox glow.

AND open cab windows, the absolute madman.

This might be of interest for creating decals ... whilst researching colour printers I came across this office printer that can print in white - it uses cmyw (cyan, magenta, yellow, white) toner cartridges.

This is the Xerox VersaLink C8000W (White Toner) A3 Colour Laser Printer C8000WV_DT

But whilst perhaps suitable for a commercial trader the approx £2,500 cost of this machine is far greater than most home users would be wanting to spend!

Also, I assume that since the paper / decal sheet will pass through it  it will only be suitable for single print runs - ie: no printing on top of printing.

That's the same system as on my OKI laser by the sounds of it. The main problems are:
-Laser printers use dot dithering to print colour (so no colour is truly solid).

-The white toner is last in the printer whereas for decals you actually want it to be first so that it can be the base colour. As it stands, you have to print colour decals upside-down and flip them over, using a ton of setting solution.

Hey, Corbs? Just asking for reference purposes, but it looks like the "Woolworths" have quite a short cab, right? How did you attach the Stanier cab on the frames? Did you just hack the whole Maunsell cab off, frames and all?

And connected to that, how did you go about bodging the new connection between loco and tender?

Yeah I removed the cab and then cut the back of the footplate off with the razor saw, then glued the Stanier cab and running plate on.

I don't remember exactly how I did the previous tender coupling but it involved styrene and I imagine this one will too.

I know all this Sodor stuff is related to Reverend Awdry's books but where does all of this fictional history of the island come from? Do you just make it up yourself, or did Awdry publish it in other books? It wasn't in the original books as far as I know, but it is around 45 years since I read them.

Sooo Wilbert and his brother George wrote up a big history of the island, notable people, and the railways, as well as drawing up the map. He used to give a lecture on it, the notes for which are held at the NGRM in Tywyn as part of the Awdry study.

I've taken the background of the stories and most of the book, then mixed it up with some of my own ideas, changing dates, numbers etc. to suit what I want to model. I think he was partially constrained by framing the stories as if they were happening contemporaneously, so I've just rearranged things to how I want them to be. I enjoy the world-building aspect of it.

Any accusations that I do this in order to justify building more locos are well-founded.
