  1. Best thing to do would be to go and talk to either a local club or go to some of the local shows and see if they have any DCC layouts running there. Unfortunately, we are too far away (Worthing) but at least two or three times each year we have people come to a club night to ask about DCC. We let them play with one of or DCC layouts and it helps to settle their minds about cab control, the "two-wires" issue and how to get going in the first place. Again, when we take Loftus Road to exhibitions, we get people asking how we use DCC and we are quite happy to let peole have a go at driving trains, we show the underside of the baseboards so that they can see how it is wired and happily stand and talk about the pros and cons of various systems. I think that until you have had a chance to play with some DCC kit and see what it is truly like, don't go making big decisions just yet...
  2. OK, I've bitten the bullet and gone for the full 14 car set...now to work out how this new-fangled e-bay thingie works in order to fund it!
  3. FYI Now due in 30th April...according to the TMC website Just hope the Rails of Sheffield Maritime One and Poppy are not on the same ship
  4. Rumour has it that we are now scheduled to visit sunny Gaydon and the Great Electric Train Show at the British Motor Museum sometime in mid-October... However, the Hornby website has yet to be updated confirming all details.
  5. You could get worse - Hilda Ogden and her flying ducks for start And if you really want to try then there was always her muriel as well...
  6. Or you could pay this for an Anglia version on EBay...
  7. Thank goodness for better quality spell- and grammar checking these days. BTW, what is an odd kit?
  8. Thinking about starting a new layout so Shirley Bassey's version of "Where do I begin?" seems appropriate...
  9. Not sure if this one counts as "Level crossing stupidity" but anyway... (Other quality daily newspapers are available)
  10. It belongs to Mark Stevens (not of this parish), hence my answering instead of Mark. It's a Hornby Railroad version which (I think) he picked up on EBay...not sure if that helps?
  11. You're welcome! Glad that everyone enjoyed the layout!
  12. Just off to load the van and then head on down to the City of Canterbury exhibition. Looking forward to a fun weekend with LR and the motley crue.
  13. Now I have very little interest in anything before 2000. Be that as it may, as some participants in this forum were extolling the virtues of a rare Scottish steam engine, I started looking at the picture in Post 1 of "Maude". However, I was mystified to see that this was apparently introduced in 18888 (not 1888) and is shown as being era 7. Shurely shome mistake...
  14. Not sure which is more exciting this morning for a modern image enthusiast, Hornby's 2018 announcements or the Cabinet reshuffle...
  15. We know we are up s@£t creek if Donald Trump comes out as model railway enthusiast...imagine what he might have on his (fantasy) layout. (Apologies - going off topic here).
  16. Here's the non-Facebook version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfEYIXDsn9s I just hope your Russian is good though!
  17. Break with tradition, why not have a mother-of-the-bride speech instead? That way, you don't have to worry on the day...
  18. The person concerned would not have been able to walk onto the train as they were a double amputee...and had no crutches as far as I could see.
  19. There ws sufficient space in the compartment designated for wheelchairs, the main occupants being the two RPO's. The mobility scooter was what I would classify as a reasonable size - certainly not like some of the 4-wheel drive versions. HTH
  20. There is no 'sadly I have to agree' emoji or button here...
  21. He was in his mobility scooter, lined up at the designated spot for the diabled access to the train and had a ticket in his hand, so I am guessing he wasn;t trying it on...
