  1. Janie, Don't You Take Your Love To Town by JON BON JOVI
  2. Along came a Spider - Alice Cooper (Guess who is listening to Alice on Planet Rock just now)
  3. The WHHR & FR relationship seems to me to be a bit like a modern day couple that live together as at times they cooperate and at other times they are living apart. Back in the 1980's WHR(64) as it was then lent Russell for the big FR gala and at various times the FR has lent locos such as Lilla to the WHHR. Exchanges for galas will be easy now that they are rail connected. The WHHR had an agreement to reconstruct a certain length of line which unfortunately due to various factors they didn't get to the desired location which is why FR seems to be taraing up the agreement. I think that the fact that WHHR uses an air brake system & FR/WHR vacuum that they also think that there would be a thunderbird problem - not if you fit a Lyd2 with both. Yet I was also lead to belive that the larger impressive museum at Gelert's Farm was a joint FR/WHHR project - the FR herse van is in there. I just hope that they "all live happily together" (based on my analogy above) as I really enjoy the WHHR line and folks. Problem seems to be at management level as many voulenteers work on both.
  4. There is an interesting film within the British Transport Films boxset that explains about selecting track panels and lengths according to the location that they are to be laid. It could be feasible that for a 250' that 5 50' panels could be used. The DVD is well worth watching as it shows the surveyor deciding on where to put rail joints and even specifying the lengths of individual sleepers.
  5. Early risers, bah I finish the 4th night in a row of 12hr shifts at 07:00 have a couple of hours kip and then I'm off to Scotland chasing trains (steam preferably), beer and girls (not nescessarily in that order).
  6. Leeds and District Traction Engine Club are holding a "Toy Steam Engine" event at the Armley Mills (Leeds) Industrial Museum on 1/8/2010. See Mamods, Willesco and other steam toys powered up. Note as they are liev steam the exhibits will be hot. L&TEC http://homepage.ntlworld.com/gee-bee/l&dtec/ website Armley Mills see www.leeds.gov.uk
  7. Really practical livery that black CAT. In Europe CAT brand a number of the agricultural products as CLAAS (or vice versa) - but that's seriously inapropriate colours of pale green and white.
  8. My slide and negative scanner was supplied with Photoshop Elements - so you might even be able to get it 'free' with something else. That Brighton Belle looks different in NSE. Hate to imagine what it would look like if the stock had been cascaded onto other services and gained some of the hideous modern liveries.
  9. Amy Macdonald - This Is The Life
  10. One of the lads I work with is a Burnley fan - I gave him y commiseration on the relegation but he said that they have had a good season not spent money they haven't got and played with some big names. From what was said the other week there are some of the big names that owe a lot and make hefty losses each year. Surely they should be relegated like other teams but FA won't do it as they are the names that folks want to see in the PL. I'm sure that the team that used to be Newton Heath (formed with Lancashire & Yorkshire Rly support) should have a large points deduction for the debt they have. How can they make such a loss getting 90k fans at each home game?
  11. Let's hope that Simon Grayson can take his current team in to the Premier League. Sorry Blackpool for us poaching him earlier - but very well done. Do any Londoners know where Blackpool is for the likes of the Arsenal & Chelsea games? Folks from Manchester & Liverpool go there on the lash so they know that the ground is at the end of the M55 next to the main central car & coach park that occupies what used to be Blackpool Central. Main road in uses the embankment and over bridges of the former line - a bit for the Branch Line Soc members to colour in!
  12. Wish - Nine Inch Nails (Try using them as track pins I think not!)
  13. You have got some more stunning results - the FL 73 is damn fine. What with DB running freight and passenger services in th UK and NS having a majot share in some of the operators (Northern Rail is one) it will be interesting to see if one of the other nationalised railways takes over another UK company. There was talk when we knew (a few years ago) that Northern was going to NS that the stock was going to be Dutch grey & yellow. Ever thought what CIE liveries would look like on UK locos?
  14. On the diesel line from Paris to Mulhouse there was a fly over (the last time that I travelled the line) that changed the running from left to right as mentioned above the border parts of France are different to other parts. Many years ago I drove along one dead straight road that crossed the French/Belgium border countless times and at times it was difficult to tell where you were. With there being more and more through trains using units (TGV etc) as a passenger you do not know about the change in supply, they used to do the change from 25kVac OHLE to 750Vdc 3rd rail next to the Channel Terminal in UK on the move. Now no more as you go on HS1.
  15. When I get a chance I'll photograph the Mainline J72 that I have fitted with a chip. Split chassis that is easy to do. Take each of the holders for the brushes cut off the end that has the screw through use solder tag for the chassis wires at the screws brush holder has motor wires soldered on make a sandwich one for each brush holder brush holder then a piece of thin plastic sheet and ontop the solder tag Do the same for each brush holder Hide chip in cab!
