  1. Did I see a pre production version in the cabinet at Shildon today or was it a kit built loco?
  2. Many of the industrial steam and diesel locomotive books have plenty, of shots showing period vehicles.

  4. There are a few photos and line drawings in the Fred W Harman books listing the locos. I'd be careful as there are more cab's than enough. Looking on this page (from one of my sites) http://leedsengine.info/leeds/imodels.asp Might be an idea to build the Slaters K https://slatersplastikard.com/linePage.php?code=7L016 These are a couple of slight differences. The cylinders are a different size, not noticable with an inside cylindered loco! K wheelbase is 5'5" + 5'4" L is 5'9" + 5'6" Wheel diameter on some K's is 1.5" more than L's. If you can hire a total station used to scan buildings etc see a previous employers site as these are used by the manufacturers to get 3D scans of locos to create modern compter drawings. https://www.zenithsurvey.co.uk/ Nice to see Matthew Murray on Balm Road branch at the top of this page used from my Leeds Engine site. I have probably taken over 100 photos of this loco.

  6. At Christmas I bought a ChromeView that enables me to send Video from the laptop or Android phone onto the TV. http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCMQtwIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DP7I_z6k-MOY&ei=VwjRVJHtEeip7AaMkYGIAQ&usg=AFQjCNEvTkDj7t3Kxc0WaGg3nCfaV79w0A&bvm=bv.85076809,d.ZGU This is an interesting video of the Russian eqivalent to Hamburgs model railway There are plenty of films online from Eisenbahn Romantic channel [Edit added more and a minor typo as had broken off to eat!] 4OD, BBC iPlayer etc can thus also be steamed onto the TV. Not railway but for those interested in steam I suggest looking on YT for Jay Leno's garage as the prog on the Doble E20 car is very compelling. As Sentinel did a few Doble railway engines you might want to watch to see what can be done with steam technology http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CCMQtwIwAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DrUg_ukBwsyo&ei=1RHRVPX7J8n1Uuy7hKAP&usg=AFQjCNE4NEhgMV-QChCCrl9LZ2wV8ir8MQ&bvm=bv.85076809,d.d24
  7. Common sense would be to fit a cheaper chassis under the same body for RR. Nice to see the Ardsley tank make a welcome return.
  8. If you don't like the plate why not replace with an etching?
  9. Did anyone ask about this at Warley this weekend?
  10. The EP must be due soon, there seems to have been nothing new news wise. Really looking forward to this.
  11. For those of you oop north I have been asked to do a show to Festiniog Leeds meeting later this year and it will be repeated (well it was going to be previewed) in January at the Middleton railway tuesday evening do. This will be Sri Lanka in January 2014 through my camera.
  12. Having called in on the bank holiday I'll be back for this event. Probably with a car full of Middleton members! I know one of the members at least is driving here.
  13. Recently I have added a few works photos for a number of the Hunslet locos such as the Y class diesel shunters and J class steam locos onto the Leeds Engine site as per link in my signature. Today a friend has just given me a glass negative works photo of the CGR Y 699 similar to 675 - I intend to scan and include a copy on the site within the fullness of time.
  14. I was talking to some one heavily involved with the FR at breakfast and there is discussion about making a replica of an England with side tanks .
  15. http://www.jftours.com/train-tours/viceroy-vintage-train-tours/ This is JF Tours Viceroy Special page If you are travelling solo you might find seats on a charter they have running - as a group booking you can ask them to run steam, diesel or just add coaches onto a service train. If only we could do that in the UK!
  16. Just rewired mine with the aid of a Bachmann 8 pin to 6 pin harness. Have left wires for lights as I might later add some. As it has a 6 pin I could easily change chip later.
  17. The T2 railcar is BG and according to the Viceroy site it's not operational but is on the project list. They seem to have items of interest for hire! There is tall about laying a tourist 2'6" line got the stored working items including a steam railcar from Shrewsbury.
  18. Saw and photographed what looked like an ex LT RM in Colombo. Getting back on track (topic). CGR coat of arms B9 4-6-0 135 at Colombo Fort built by Hunslet 845 at Galle 807 at Galle B1 4-6-0 built by Beyer Peacock at Rambukana Cowens Sheldon turn table at Nanu-oya Nice signal Westinghouse frame at Nanu-oya Hen diesel loco at Nanu-oya Ex Sentinel railcar - converted to Diesel Hunslet NG tank loco Typical good yard Edmondson tickets are still in use No comment! Rough shunt Hunslet 0-6-0DH 675 first of the Y class shunters at Kandy Hitachi diesel at Kandy For those of you that debate couplers on your models you can see what KD's look like with buffers. The HE 530HP 0-6-0DH locos were fitted as standard from new - I have a works photo of one which for © reasons is not going on here, sorry. All of the above were taken by me.
  19. Slight deviation away from the railways, back on them with the next post. The Devil sauce that they cook various ingredients in is very nice and it's also spicy hot. Here is a link to a recipe on the web! http://www.foodcnr.com/2012/10/sri-lankan-devilled-chicken-recipe-in.html As many of us like a drink the following link has info of many of the beers available in the country. http://www.ratebeer.com/country/sri-lanka/184/ Hotels and other accommodation is easy to book on the internet before or whilst you are away. Many places have free wifi, even on the ExpoRail trains they have wifi. The railway's own site is here http://www.railway.gov.lk/
  20. Been back in the UK now for a week. Busy sorting photos out... Rail map of the island (found via Google) http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hYQPnBze3Yw/UMluQXbWNzI/AAAAAAAAACk/2NFAslbDlyk/s640/sri-lanka-railway-train-route-map.png A few photos of the Y class Hunslet built 0-6-0DH shunters that are still in operation (on one of my sites) http://leedsengine.info/leeds/gallery.asp?section=/leeds/images/Hunslet%20Engine/Broad%20Gauge%20Loco/Diesel For details about the locomotives on the island the following are good. http://www.srilankanlocos.com/data/data.html Fleet list http://www.srilankanlocos.com/data/locodata.html Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locomotives_of_Sri_Lanka_Railways Some more photos and comments to follow - must go play with 12":1' trains
  21. If you can get a scale drawing and know someone that can use CAD software it might be possible to get a 3D print done for the key components. I have only seen & ridden in trains with the coal fired ones rather than the new oil fired ones from Golden Rock. I assume they are taking the same dimensions and the SLM built locos. After the loco you would then want the coaches.........
  22. There are still 3 classes On most trains. But some trains have upto another 2 available, these are Rajdahni and Expo. Both are air conditioning business expo has meals and drinks, Just a shame that the track needs a lot of work to get the ride quality up. If you have money then you can contact JF travel as they can add on a Viceroy coach onto service train. They also do a few steam trips with s dedicated set of coaches.
  23. The other year when I was riding the railway there were posters for their 2-10-2T locomotive in HOm scale cannot remember how much they were changing business it wasn't a kings ransom! '
  24. I'm currently sat in a hotel on a two week tour of the island. The railway is still essentially the same engineering as supplied byte various UK companies. Photos and more to follow when I get home. Signaling from Westinghouse, shunters from hunslet along with preserved steam locomotive. Still has classic telegraph posts with wires in use.
  25. I saw one of the first L&Y 2-4-2 tanks at Wakefield at the weekend. One of the L&Y society members had his with him and had personalised it by adding the L&Y lettering onto the tank to change the livery era. Not had hands on one yet as dad's has been wrapped up so won't see it until 25/12! All of the NRM locos have sold out. Just proves that pre-grouping locos can sell. Currently showing as others in Dec/Jan.
