The end of the Box, should have a Sound ICON and the SKU will end in DCC if it's sound fitted (which it is from your photo!)

This is all that’s on the end, nothing obvious to me. Also, my order at Rails was very much a last minute affair. So it’s not crossed wires as far as I know.

Yes thats what im saying i think you have a sound fitted version but the decoder has arrived loose for some reason.

Sorry, I misread your initial response, it wasn’t loose it was fully fitted, I took it off to get at the switches, when I saw there was no blanking plate, things went click. Weirdly, I don’t think this is a stuff up by Rails, there’s nothing on the itself to say that it’s sound fitted. I think someone at the factory genuinely put the wrong model in the wrong box.

That’s fine, I asked for context and that provides it nicely. However logical it seems to assume things it should be stated what that is based upon and many times our logic is found to be way out of step with reality because there was a political or financial incentive or even an experiment that lead to a decision.
In the narrow gauge world Boyd was regarded as the definitive source for years but it became apparent he had made a lot of assumptions based on opinions not facts. His works are still very useful but any reference needs to be cross checked if modelling from it. The limited sources on these early locos makes that even more difficult even though it’s only 10-20 years earlier on several cases.

The perennial problem when it comes to rail history, most of the sources aren't actually historical trained and are often just reporting what they heard or thought at the time. 'Chough O.S.Nock Chough'.

  4. I'm actually excited for the SCR Class 40. Its not a perfect model, but its better to go for it than wait around for Bachmann to announce an enormously expensive revision or for Accurascale to come out with one that I won't see until 2025.

Does anyone know what % of the worked up drawings were done as much to satisfy the CME or his team that an idea (whether his or from another member of the design team) would or wouldn’t work compared with those for a project that was a definitive build idea? Thinking as an example perhaps two or three options for a developed Star like the one above, but getting dropped as the Castle class option evolved instead. How much drawing office team time was R&D?

Oh I imagine a good 90% of all the drawings out there were never intended to be much more than stepping stones, merely to see what it would look like, with no serious intent to pursue them beyond working out which ideas survived to the final design.

A less fictional imaginary than some, this is my interpretation of the extant 1920 weight diagram showing a Star with a Std 7 boiler.  As far as I can tell it could be a straight tracing of a Star chassis and cab with the larger boiler (which is slightly different to a Std 7 as built a year later) drawn in with the front tube plate in the same place as the standard one. There's no change to the cab at all, so the enginemen have a foot less footroom (but at least a bit more than the Bear).

It looks like a Star that ate another Star.

Is this anything to do with the "Condensed View/Expanded View" thing next to the "Start New Topic" button?

Some time ago I accidentally clicked on the Expanded View option, which resulted in the blank page problem as seen above. I somehow got back to Condensed View, possibly by going into the Boxfiles section and clicking on it there.

Oh Nile, I could kiss you, you marvel, months thats been, months!

    Hi @Crouchja32,

Many thanks for the pics. You can rest assured that we have great plans for a wide range of livery and conditions of our buckjumpers over the coming years which we will cover. We do love the suggestions for future runs though, so please keep them coming.

The popularity of the locomotive so far on pre-order has blown us away, so thank you to everyone who has placed a pre-order so far. Retailers are reporting strong sales as we are also seeing direct. It’s certainly given us an appetite for more steam, and there might be some more brewing in the background.

    Cheers!

    Fran

If I may add my thrupence ha'penny, I think a big part of this is the wise choice to go with the pay-on-delivery model for pre-order, rather than the pay-now-delivery-later one. I always feel personally leery of giving over money for something that might not be available for years. Its not that I don't trust you Fran, its that as 2020 proved, best laid plans gang aft agley. Plus what happens if something happens on my end, or if I change my mind? What if the money is gone for good? Its so much easier to have a date to save for, rather than fretting about availability and checking for months on end. I do understand that as a small company Accurascale can't rely on future custom alone and not everyone who has pre-order will honour those orders. But I do feel much more relaxed knowing that should anything go horribly wrong I haven't damaged my savings too badly.

I think anything can be Photoshopped so buying a product based on a photo seems a bit naive.  For anyone that has actually received one of the train sets and seen the impressive products I think a bit of trust should be applied!

Yes, but its very unlikely that a manufacture would deliberately alter a real photo, not merely because of how quickly they would be found out. So an image of the real think is far more trust worthy.

Which products are you talking about?

The TT ones that are in-stock such as the A3s and A4s. There are distinct visual differences between them and their 00 gauge counterparts and I think customers should be aware of them.

  11. I had a twitter argument today (bad idea) with a guy who was seriously proposing over-head electrified motorways as an alternative to HS2. It really is incredible to me how some people are prepared to back any nonsense over a proven method of transport.
