  1. DPD have "delivered" a parcel to a "neighbour" who isn't my neighbour and I've no idea of the location of the photo taken. No card either. Brilliant.

UPS couldn't find a 150 year old house ("is it a new build?") in a group of 8 houses surrounded by half a mile of fields in either direction. Twice. Despite having directions and my phone number just in case.

Some drivers are on drugs and randomly deliver parcels to anywhere they fancy - I do believe..

Finally got my parcel yesterday afternoon by spending a couple of hours comparing the image they'd sent me of my "neighbours" door with those doors on houses with similar sounding street names - finally found it after much frustration and marched off to collect. No thanks whatsoever to DPD who have not been in contact since I raised the initial issue.

aye but growing up in Darlington, and having been nearly gassed by 101s on numerous shorthaul occasions they were a very welcome relief.

  6. Falling off the wagon is so much more fun than trying to climb back on, or at least that's what it felt like last night....

  7. Feeling rather pleased with myself after getting an ancient Hornby L1 chassis to work, ready to go under my similarly ancient GEM D30.

  9. First HST in three months for a bimble up to Edinburgh, yes it's nice to be back!

  10. First trip on a Virgin Voyager since 2003. Grotty interior, same toilet/diesel smell, toilets out of use, no catering at all onboard and all these benefits courtesy of a First class ticket.

funny that the Arriva XC ones I used on Wednesday didn't smell, toilets clean, catering trolley still going near end of trip. The problems can't all be down to the units.

I must confess I did spend half an hour or so on a XC Voyage back in January (Donny-York) and I had no complaints about time onboard.

Ha, I'm really looking forward (not) to Euston - Manchester Picc on Wednesday!

  11. First trip on a VTEC Mk3 with the new cheapo PVC seats with yet more Vermin branding to message the masses. At seat power still doesn't work, quelle surprise. Hopefully once they get past sticking their logo everywhere they'll pay some attention to the mechanics and electricals.

I've watched too many of my friends and colleagues die far too young to be that bothered about what will occur in old age - assuming I even get there.

  16. Good day at ModelRail Scotland. Came back with a Hornby B1 and 3x Gresley Suburbans. Better not tell her indoors......

  17. Goodbye nice(ish) weather, cold, snow and high winds beckon on Wednesday - off to the Falklands!

I was there on my ship 1983-86. The saying is - "If you don't like the weather, wait 10 minutes..." I've literally seen all 4 seasons in one day down there...

Mark, It's the wind that gets me, I know of nowhere like it for gale force winds to appear out of nowhere one minute then disappear the next and then reappear from a completely different direction a couple of minutes later! Were you down there on Scottish Eagle or Alvega perchance?

      MarkC

This is true. I was on Scottish Eagle :)

Good lord no, the Gresley 3 cylinder version sounds much better! It's a modern vit, but the sound is good:

  20. Have had ABBA ringing in my ears all evening, damn you woman of the house!

  21. Have just bought my first DCC sound model and now wondering if I need a PhD in electronics to operate the thing...

  22. Have my Union Mills J38 sat in front of me, next to my Bachfar J39. No real comparison in detail terms but by god the J38 is a slogger.

  23. Having a welcome brew on the 0952 ex Aberdeen HST and some BTP bods are patrolling the train and as they walk through they're greeting the passengers with "Good Morning Sir/Ma'm" - how refreshingly polite.
