  1. Class 24's D5107 and D5109 start the hard slog to Consett with a loaded iron ore train:
  2. A cracking little show as always.
  3. It can be interesting 😁 When we bank up the hill, we aim to have the banker pushing 4 or 5 wagons with the lead loco pulling the rest. We don't couple the banker to the train (although they did on the prototype) so, if speeds aren't matched well, the banker will fall off the rear of the train.
  4. N10 69101 leaves the colliery exchange sidings with loaded coal wagons to be marshalled in to a train in Stella Gill yard, a new move added to the timetable for Warley.
  5. No consisting or speed matching, we use two controllers and a lot of practice 😀 I believe SLW are planning a twin set for the Tyne Dock 24s. I tried to persuade Phil to do one as green with full yellow ends but he says that, unfortunately, that livery doesn’t sell well. John
  6. Must have done, it ran from Edinburgh to the NRM York today.
  7. 66751 at Tyne Yard and a look at the Arriva Train Care depot:
  8. Agreed, the line I'm modelling was wall to wall Class 37s in the 1970s, I've not counted how many different ones are in the photos I have but I'd be surprised if it's not 40-50.
  9. From the thread that Darius linked to: The distance between each mast is called the span. Masts are spaced the maximum distance apart where possible. The maximum design span is 73m (958mm in 4mm scale),and the minimum is 13m (170mm in 4mm scale). Were mast are of unequal distance apart the difference between them must not be over 20m (262mm).
  10. Waldridge Signal Box, built by group member Mark Lloyd has been installed at the Stella Gill end of the layout, just needs to be bedded in. It is a model of the actual box and features a fully detailed interior. Droopy signals to be adjusted... John
  11. I suspect, these days, manufacturers can’t do right for doing wrong. For everyone that says that there is too much detail there’ll be someone who complains that there is not enough…. John
  12. Some 'eye level' footage from the layout:
  13. A bit late to the party but I've only just seen this question. I have hundreds of photos of Tyne Dock 9Fs but the majority of the few that show the rear of the tender are in shadow. These two (92098 and 92099) are probably the best I have: John
  14. We have a similar issue on South Pelaw where, due to the climb to Consett, the fiddle yard is around 3" higher than the front of the layout, a difference that also has to be made up at the 'downhill' end of the layout which, once off the scenic section, is actually uphill.
  15. Might have just been me but when I was there on Saturday, it certainly felt busier than last year.
  16. A short video of a couple of trains passing through South Pelaw. Come and see the layout at Warley this November.
  17. I had a good look at the stock in the fiddle yard yesterday while chatting to your fiddle yard operator who's name I regrettably didn't get but the quality was superb. Remarkable to think that some of them must be what, 70 years old now?
  18. As a certain Mr Wallace might say, a grand day out…
