  1. Then why was this not conveyed at the Telford show if it had been sorted several weeks ago as suggested. All 'smoke and mirrors' to me in fact there is so much smoke I can't see the mirrors.

What was said was said I cannot dispute as I was not there and have never spoken to Richard. I merely quoted that some issues were looked at on a recent trip to China that did happen several weeks ago.

  2. Looks like some back-peddling going on on Dapol's part?

It didnt happen that way with the 6 wheel tanks, the POWs et al.

So perhaps the 'noise' :mail:  :rtfm:  on here has now sunk into Dapol's consciousness?

Lets hope so then everyone will be happy   :sungum:  :imsohappy:

So even when they are right and say that the models on show were samples and will be corrected you still find room to criticise. Your assumptions have been found to be wrong this is not back peddling as you put it if the it was in fact sorted several weeks ago.

  3. Where I choose to voice opinions about a model is my choice.  It is also not my responsibility to ensure a model is correct.  That responsibility lies wholly with the manufacturer.  If the powers-that-be at Dapol had any sense they'd be monitoring forums such as this one rather than apparently demanding people post comments on its proprietary site. (I've no idea if that is true or not, but I'd hope not.)

The box-shifter discounted price for this model is currently about £120 which is up from £100 when it was first announced (how many ages ago?).  At that price, Dapol should be pulling out the stops to get this model correct.  However, if it cannot be bothered (and I'm not saying it can't; I don't know) to take advantage of the comments by enthusiasts who do not wish to join "Dapol Digest" then let it reap what it sows.

If someone who sees the comments posted in this forum believes they have merit, they are certainly free to reiterate them on Dapol Digest.

    Matt

Fine Matt I hope we all get the model we want.

  4. But if they want the model to be correct this is not the place, to end with disappointed with CADs is a shame. I am a massive fan of the class 50 so if something is wrong I want it reported and corrected,is that not fair?

  5. I am by no means an expert and perhaps it is just the angle of the CADs but to my eyes there are two very glaring problems:

1.) The lower body sides don't tuck under except directly behind the buffer beams and that is incorrect.  There should be a tumblehome the whole length of the body with the area directly behind the buffer beams being even more pronounced.

2.) The tops of the roof indicator boxes are slanted at angle so that they are higher at their ends than at their roots.  The roofs of these boxes should be parallel to the roof and cantrail of the body proper.

The bogies also appear to be too close to the ends of the body and the NEM boxes seem to stick way out past the buffer beams - perhaps it is the prominent NEM boxes by themselves which are making the bogies look they way they do?

I hate to say it but I am disappointed with the CADs.

    Matt

Have you shared this with Dapol via Dapol Digest? That is the only place to raise these concerns.

  6. I apologise to DJM in advance for this pure assumption, but I suspect that these crowd funding projects along with the many retailer commissions that all jump the queue are encouraged to help finance the business. The profits from these are paying for the standard range, along with the J94 and mermaids, it all adds up to support the growing, new start up business.

Dave and I have had our differences and I am far from an out and out supporter, as people on here have criticised me in the past, but fairs fair he's trying. I disagree with his land grab early announcements, but the crowd fund and retail commissions all help fund the standard range.

  7. Kato  curves  are  available  in  many  radii  from   around 6" ( Tramways)  to  around  36+"   It  would be  helpful to  know  which  you  are  using  ( The  radius  is printed  underneath  each  section  in MM)

Such a pity  to  read  all these  problems,  the  schools  looks  good,  but  why  cant   Dapol  produce something  that  runs  well  or  at  least  perhaps  check  the  manufacturing/assembly  standards?

Other  manufacturers  don't  seem  to  have so  many   problems,  I have been  into  N  Gauge   for   many  years ( early  70s  the PECO Jubilee Years) and now  there  is  one  manufacturer  whose  locos  I avoid.

Having watched a School going around and around all morning with no issues at the NGS AGM today I can say a few complaints do not make a bad loco. For every 1 complaint on here they're may be 10 or more happy customers, who don't shout about not having issues. Several have however come on here and reported no issues and said how happy they are with the loco.

  8. I've been looking at the photos on the Hattons website and I notice that the GSYP version D6539 has the later exhaust arrangement and the uncovered horn enclosure. As far as I am aware no GSYP locos had this arrangement as it seemed to occur when in works for a repaint into BR blue. Is this just a mistake on a pre-production sample?

I would suggest you look here and raise the issue https://digest.Dapol.co.uk/forum/n-gauge-models/class-33/project-managers-blog/331-class-33-decorated-samples

  9. My point was mainly that for around 3 years Dapol have stated the BR black Bulleid chimney version  would have the BR black livery with the small logo and I'm annoyed they didn't describe accurately what they are going to produce.

To change this it's more than just a logo change. Schools in BR black with the small logo had different tender lining (applied only to the vertical part of the tender side) so that would have to be changed as well. See the photographs of the full size BR  Shrewsbury in both liveries earlier in this thread.

Can I suggest instead of complaining on here where Dapol don't listen, you register for Digest Dapol and politely ask the question about the livery. It may also be a good idea to then ask if the livery you want will be produced in the next batch all be it with a different running number and name. They may be open to suggestions on livery options and details particularly if you have a picture that they do not.

  10. Appreciate your comments Sir !!

It may affect my life - i'm in my 60's - don't want to die waiting - if I promised a delivery date in my business and put it back for nearly a year - i'd be out of business !! Seriously; I understand your point but the delay really disappoints; sure there will be challenges along the way but when I say come clean; just tell it like it is; apologies for my rant.

Dapol have explained on they new website.

Odd you have 2 posts both rants at Dapol in another thread someone is ranting at Dapol and has only made one post!

  11. No one has attacked Dapol just questioned why they released such a CAD without an explanation! All they had to do was say this CAD is a mix of different types. Though it really isn't that difficult to show a CAD for each variant...we are talking about a few more images not a mammoth presentation!

    Cheers M

Okay Mike I agree Dapol should have embedded some text into the picture so that when it got copied and posted no context could be lost. My point about the number of pictures in the presentation is valid as I was referring to the whole presentation at the open day that if it had multi picture's for every loco variation would have been over the top.

  12. Mike it is not errors it is a publicity CAD image to show as many details as possible. It is like having a steam loco with 4 chimneys and someone saying it is wrong when it is blatantly wrong as the prototype never had 4 chimneys but did have 4 different styles of chimney.Dapol have tried to use 1 CAD image to show differing details at a presentation and now been attacked for it, what are the meant to do show multiply CADs of every variation of every loco in a 30 min presentation? unpractical I would suggest, silence and not sharing potential outcome may result though.

  13. First EP stage is the first rough casting off the tooling a lot of extra work can be done to the tooling after this stage. First EP is to check the overall dimensions and joins in the mold, most detail like rivets etc is added after this stage. Metal can be re-added and then cut again as DJ has mentioned in the J94 thread.

  14. So now you have to be a paid professional to do a review, yes he made errors but life is about learning, someone said his review should be ignored because he is inexperienced well so was I when I was young and so am I now and probably still will be the day I die. Every day we should be about learning something new, irrespective of how old we are or how knowledgeable we may think or know we are.

This lad has taken a first step and yes could have taken 10-15 minutes do some basic research before posting online but I suspect the excitement of youth may have got in the way. How can we hope to encourage the next generation in to this hobby if at the first pass we deride there input as inexperience of youth and invalidate all that is said good or bad on that bases.

  15. 3) Will not reaching our Kickstarter target dissuade others? However, if its purpose was also to prove that Kickstarter itself was viable for the British model railway customert then yes, maybe that is a failure and maybe the lesson is that such a funding model (especially with its time limitations and all-or-nothing condition) is not quite the right "fit" for this market.

This project has not disproved the funding model as it has not run its true full course, so no lessons there. The funding model is a valid and reliable model that is well used and respected outside of railway modelling. This was always going to be a big ask as it is a big jump from a few thousand raised previously to a few hundred thousand this time.

Kickstarter is a very good system and time restraints are always required as is the all or nothing. Other platforms take the money when pledged, what would have happened if you had done this, you would have £180000 and a commitment to supply the goods costing £210000.

I still feel and am working on a project to push the funding goal up by several thousand but under a Hundred the hobby needs to move forward in small steps and this has proofed the system.
