  1. This rather puts into perspective those people who say that they can't solder/use a lathe/build a kit etc etc http://www.bbc.com/reel/video/p06t5pd3/-this-might-freak-you-out-i-don-t-want-my-eyesight-back-?fbclid=IwAR2OlY9ncJmV1tVs6NLNcMPLDblvcNogl0HX5zbrJJm-0LN_lrfPrW7r5fw

Inspiring stuff, its proof you can achieve whatever you want to if you don't let things hold you back and a reminder of how much a lot of us (myself included) take for granted. My brother was born without his left arm, he trained as an electrician and he's now the international electrical specialist for the company we both work for. Requested by superyachts around the world.

But you do get a clear ahead view in the trams which I don't think there was in the 504s!

I thought it was already open! At Piccadilly, yesterday, the destinations had changed from Droyelsden to Ashton.

TfGM website says first tram from Ashton will be 05.59 Wednesday 9th October.

      Have some irritating looped music...

      Huw Griffiths

... It's called "music", is it?

Comes as a shock to me - much like the concept of actually getting my call answered by a real person, possibly even some time today ... nah ... not allowed.

"An unexpected high volume of calls" they also say in normal times, which doesn't exactly engender confidence that they can manage their day-to-day business.

  6. Wesley Sneijder retires from football. Decent pension though :-)

I find this very odd. It wasn't that long ago he was being linked with

Not even 29 until June. Strange but no doubt well paid move.

When the expression 'having a good idea' was turned into 'blue sky thinking' and old-fashioned stuff ceased to be 'cool'.

There are 10 kinds of people. Those that understand binary, and those that don't...

Ah yes, CK. The Australian inflection!

    4. Phil Copleston

      Phil Copleston

Sounds like you've all become 'highly inflected' with it now. Just 'station stop' it!

  10. When did "may I help you" become "are you alright there"?

    1. Bon Accord

      Bon Accord

It probably started on Merseyside. "You alright derrrr laaaa?" etc.

  11. Where did 'smokebox dart' come from? Aren't they just smokebox door handles so why not just call them what they are?

      The Stationmaster

I don't know but it is something which has long puzzled me (like lots of other expressions used by railway modellers).

  12. Why do people yak for 2hrs in the quiet zone and think it's ok? They think it only applies to mobile phones.

    1. Phil Copleston

      Phil Copleston

I hope you strode over and pointed out the error of their selfish ways... Oh, how abashed they'd surely be!

    2. The Stationmaster

      The Stationmaster

Depends on the train operator but you are allowed to talk in the Quiet Zone on FGW for example - but obviously not go mad about it (but then that applies in the rest of the train anyway according to the Byelaws).
