Nice view of the underside of the wagon. Plenty of detail there. 16T Mineral?
Not sure the detail is all in the right place though!

Website: https://emardee.org.uk/contact/
Have to update this message. Finally got through to Hubert and he does still have brackets available!
He DOES NOT have control of his website....been hacked.
If you need to contact him try his email and if you cannot get him then try the phone. He apparently has had a lot of spam so that has been an issue as well!
I believe that he should have control of his site in a couple of months as is in the process of building a new one.
Hope this is of help to those interested!Khris

Hi folks,
I need some help please.
Somewhere along the line ages ago there was a post showing etched brass brackets suitable for the handrails of Toads.
I know I asked at the time re where to purchase and said person responded with details.
My problem is I cannot find the posts, or details, and wonder if someone could please advise where to get them from again please?
TIA

Gents,
Are these any good for replacements as opposed to replacing same with same with the likelihood of the same problem happening again?? From what I have read it would appear that the biggest issue is with the material the gears are made of, so one can only surmise the same thing is going to happen further down the track!

With hatttons and some similar watch out some engines. A bad one is the ex airfix 2-6-2 if it says damage to valve gear/ cylinder block leave well alone, as those parts are difficult unless you have another to cobble a runner from. Airfix/Dapol & Hornby non can motored county/castle class steer clear if they have damage to the motion cylinder block. They are impossible to find as a part. Also avoid any southern Bob/west country or merchant navy as these the valve gear is rare and if damaged really has a knock on its value and being able to make any use of them. Aim for a non runner or poor runner with none of the above issues and really look at the price too as some are not 'bargains'
Are the motion cylinder blocks that are available as brass spares suitable for any of these repairs??

When we were in the UK in 2011 we came across a level crossing where the gates were kept closed to road traffic unless someone wanted to cross....like ourselves.
Cannot remember where it was but I did have visions of photographing the original gate crossing keepers house/building until we got there and found it completely overgrown in greenery that unless you knew it was there you would miss it.
It was a double mainline to somewhere and the area was very horsey!Khris

Have you tried contacting Keens with some pics?
From what I have seen here (RM Web) a lot of guys cut out the floor to fit it from memory so it doesn't sit to low.

(The H57 is another model on my problem shelf, but in that instance the only problem is that having built a seventy foot restaurant car I have found that I don't need one!)
Pete.
Easy remedy......just shorten it!!

Being in Australia, is probably not a great help BUT, over here we have insulation batts.
My current one which I have has been insulated with batts all through the walls and a silver foam/rubber product in the roof and is brilliant.
For your brick walls frame it out with timber and use the insulation of choice. The more insulation all around the better off you are in both winter and summer!

ive been thinking about doing an etch for a gwr cattle wagon for a while now as there is very little available but not sure which diagram to go for
You have already had a few suggestions of what is NLA...that would be a start as far as I would be concerned!

Ashburton had coal deliveries for the Gas Works which were effectively unloaded to a horse and cart and delivered to the Gas Works on the other side of the station!

To straighten wire put one end in a vice and other end in a drill.
Don't go to far overboard when spinning but it will straighten quite well!

That would have been my suggestion to make your own, much in the same vain as they make little clumps.
Your earlier comment about having done patches here and there, I do agree.....I could not work like that, but like you said each to their own.
Either way, you are doing a GREAT job on the layout. Looking brilliant!Khris

His end results look pretty good - that variety of textures is important, I think - but I winced at the prices of the products he was using. I guess that's the time-cost-quality triangle at work.
Glad you have the money if you only winced
I think my missus would give me Covid 19 if I was paying those prices for that amount

I also took the liberty of picking up some more appropriate shades of flock to create blackberries and brambles... and some very dark green static grass.
No prizes for guessing what I was up to this afternoon.
Cheers

Hi Scott,
T'was looking at a youtube clip a couple of days ago where a US modeller used Model Scene (?) products that were of a mat type of thing and various colours and layered them to create a bushy lineside effect. Worked very well.
If I can manage to find in the next couple of hours I will post a link. It may be of help to you!

Thanks for the responses guys...been great!
All my books are boxed and taped up ready for a move that was hoped to happen on selling of the house!
Alas a week after putting it on the market Covid 19 and it's subsequent restrictions have happened....mutter, mutterDid the Stars run with a 8 wheel tender??
Didn't think there were many of them around at the best of times, but could stand corrected.

Have you been to the S4 Forum and looked at what Andy Suter is doing?
Not sure if it will be available and OO and EM but worthwhile finding out.
Could be possible to get the motor section I should imagine BUT I am not sure.
