Greetings all,
I hope you and your respective families are all well. I must say this is all rather extraordinary. I've been banned from going into school (as of Friday) due to my asthma; although, I have still be setting daily lessons and trying to come up with ways of educating the children which don't involve staring at a screen all day long!
Anyway, I am not going to lie, I have had a significant increase in free time and rather than watching rubbish on TV, I've made the most of 'self-isolation'.
On Saturday, I decided to grab the bull by the horns and have a go at a brass wagon kit: Frogmore AA13 GWR brake van. I picked this kit up at the first Scaleforum I went to, either 2008 or 2009(!) and thought it was about time to build it. I have to say, it has been a real pig and should come with a health warning! It really isn't for the fainthearted.
I have 2 of these started and stopped.
Once we sell, and get into our new place I "may" look at them again........and I thought it was just me!
Talk of disillusioning.....but we soon learn!

Hi,
I have picked up a kit of the above.
Anyone here built one?
Pitfalls/inaccuracies to watch out for?
Couldn't find a thread here on it but wonder if there was one on the old site that anyone may have saved!

For Ian, (Crisis Rail)
At the end of the day...remember, this is a hobby. It involves all sorts of skills from making models/ trackwork/ scenery/ buildings/ figures/ electronics. They are skills some of us have, anything from none to all and anywhere inbetween, but at the end of the day we Enjoy, and share our experiences, be it on this or other threads!
Enjoy it for what it is....a place to share our hobby and learn new skills along the way!Khris

Post away. No need to get so upset! I’ll keep liking the likes. And keep all my opinions to myself. I’m sure this was a forum.
Remember:
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!
The works depicted in this thread are brilliant!
Of course YOU can always up the ante..........

Just Google for enamel signs and you'll find loads of pictures. Download the ones you want, open them in Gimp (free) to square them up and just print.
I have done this for some and if you want them, juyst pm me.
Thank You
appreciated

I had a link once for enamelled signs available to print...alas I didn't keep it but did print some.
Alas they have been damaged so I need to access them again.Any hints as to where to find them please?

If you are trying to replicate the front like the pic you posted, you could try a darker shade on maroon on the lower sections, then do the painted sections in a gloss varnish spray.
Really depends on what you want to achieve. Gold lining on that would look brilliant!

Thanks Derek! I'm not bad, had a bit of a rough patch recently, but my own modelling projects are keeping me on the straight and narrow I think!
Hope you are well!Any updates on your modelling or am I missing them somewhere?

With my very naughty cynics hat on, I'd 'suggest' that there is enough time delay to slip in a price rise or two. This 94xx project is probably the last Western-based model loco that Bachmann will release, so you can't really blame them if they milk it to death.
Happy modelling,
Ian.
What makes you say that Ian?

Going to be magnificent when completed!

There used to be a whitemetal detailing kit available but I forget who by (possibly Westward??) which I think mainly consisted of vacumm pipes and better roof vents. I sourced mine on Ebay some time ago.
I have the SEF flush glazing fitted but it waiting for me to get around to replacing this with the Shawplan glazing. Repainting the interior also makes quite a difference.
Nick,
It's not Dart Castings is it?Khris

A good way to double check track when laying is to use a mirror. Amazing what it shows up!

Wouldn't you have to first look at how far the truck/car developed during the war years as opposed to how quickly they would have developed otherwise.
Just that alone would have a big bearing on how the railways developed and/ or lost traffic after the war!

Many thanks for that info. I hadn't heard of them before, so went off to Google them. As a product they look good, but at £16 for a pair in the UK are borderline in terms of value for money. Sadly what killed it for me was they then wanted an additional £10.23 for postage......
There is a UK address and I would have phoned them to query the postage, but no phone number, so can only assume they are a gateway to the main European or US office. To be honest at £26.23 I'll cope with my bits of MDF with slots cut in them.
Shame as they look useful.......
Glad to say all is now looking OK and no one was hurt in the rework.....(only my own pride in making a mess of something that should have been so straightforward....)
Simple remedy!
Make your own in styrene.....it is not hard!In this case either make one for 2 tracks if the spacing is uniform, or make one to do all the tracks at once of the spacing is not uniform!

Only thing I would add to all of the above is that I take the needle out of my airbrushes when I've finshed a session, and re-insert days/weeks later for the next session.
Can I ask why?
Never heard that before and wondering about benefits of it!

I made my acrylic thinners from this video too. There is also one about making a cleaner which is stronger on the IPA and also has a drop of glycerine in to help lubricate the airbrush.
57xx,
By the same mob or someone else?
Do you have a link....like to have a sticky?

You would want them washed out thoroughly first though, or it would be a bit of a **itty situation!
