  3. The points and track on one board work, the points but not the track on the other. I think three out of four isn't a bad start!

  5. Am I the only one who thinks that two powerful class 5 locos on a three or four coach train looks a bit odd!
  6. So proud of my 3yr lad. He has taken the tender from his Brio 'Henry' and put it in front of 'James' - to make a garrett just like we sae on the Welsh Highland. Is this his first kit bash?

Best get those Brio finescale standards set in stone.

Well we have serious scale issues! The garrett and Mallard are about the same size and run on the same track. And the flat crossing (again copied from the WHR) has both tracks the same gauge!

The new Madder Valley Railway then...?!

  10. Of course William-Ellis did actually design a railway station (of sorts) that was built and used for many years. It wasnt the prettiest of buildings..... The old Snowdon cafe!

  13. You can't get rid of CJ!!! I need it for my inspiration. Wouldn't it be like selling a child....? But seriously I think you're right that Paddock Wood offers the most variety and interesting operation. And it's coming together very nicely. I don't think you'll have a problem selling any of your layouts!
  14. The ballasted disused track bed disappearing under the bridge looks very effective, gives that 80s run down, rationalisation look. On a different note have you (or anyone else) got any details of the colour scheme of the station buildings in the 80s? Most photos I have are black and white or it's hard to tell under the grime.
  15. I think it will have a lot more 'bulk' when painted that beautiful shade of green. When you find a match let me know!! I'm planning on kit bashing a Ratio carriage shed as the basis for mine as I'm just not confident enough for the curved roof in N gauge
  16. Hi Bill My china clay layout 'Lamellion Junction' is on here, but I've not updated the thread for a while. It's inspired by Coombe Junction/Moorswater and the eventual aim is to make it dual era for my steam and BR blue stock (a bit like Ullypugs Wheal Elizabeth'. I ought to take some more photos. I was building a larger clay layout 'St Petrocs' but it hadn't ended up as I wanted and I was more and more interested by the North Devon line so I am going to rebuild it as 'Crediton-ish' and have used the buildings etc for my small clay layout. I do like that bridge now it's been set in the landscape, especially the impression of a double track that's been rationised.
  17. Hi Treggyman. Good to hear I'm not treading on your toes! Not yet got a name for the layout but as its a combination of Crediton and Lapford I thought either Crediford Road or Lapton Road. I've not yet started a thread as so far I've only made the buildings. I want to finish my Cornish clay shunting layout (which is in the warm playroom) before venturing to the cold garage! I'll start a thread when there's some progress worth reporting.
  18. I've really enjoyed following your progress - its good to see things coming together. I especially like the bridge, gives it that North Devon looks straightaway. I hope you don't mind as I am also building a layout inspired by Crediton, this time in N. I hope this is ok as I have found a huge amount of inspiration on this thread, especially the photos people have posted. Like you I was attracted by the greater variety of traffic than in Cornwall and the short loco hauled trains. I might tweak history a little to keep the clay traffic running and have holiday trains to Barnstaple and a service to Okehampton! Look forward to seeing what happens to this over Easter.
  19. Spending the afternoon playing with the Hornby 'Thomas' with my son. I'd forgotten his much fun an oval of track on the floor with one siding and four wagons could be!!

It reminds me of something Alan Downes wrote years ago. Something like: "The wife soon got to know about it - and the mother in law knew about it before it had even happened."

    N gauge Class 50

Please spend plenty of time tweaking the CAD. Mainly so we get a superb loco but also so MrsJ has forgotten about the last Dapol box in the post before I order one! Looking v promising as a start, can't wait to get one
  22. Before cutting out the windows of your class 37 make sure you haven't lost the replacement etch. Major fail....

  24. Long before we were married or even living together MrsJ found my collection of 'Railway Modeller's' under the bed. I think she was expecting to find a different type of magazine! She still refers to it as my train porn! She actually encouraged me to start modelling again when we lived together early in my career and I worked all sorts of odd shifts. She thought it was better for me than watching daytime TV or on the Playstation. I do feel a bit sorry for her now our toddler is train mad. Days out often involve her being dragged to something railway related, even when I'm not around! But she is now fairly knowledgable on the subject, and an expert on Thomas the Tank Engine!!
  25. The advantage of having a train mad toddler is that I can play trains for an hour AND get brownie points from SWMBO!!
