Several months ago i started infilling the bottom of the flange ways in the in-set and ended up making a bit of a mess to clean up later, last week the last bit of the foam board was put in and filled around. I filled it in because it was annoying me that i could see the void under the foam board ruining the look of it
After that mess i started on the far track but was taking much longer to stuff filler in because the void is bigger in the flexi track so the new method was to mask around and pour watered down filler in to a sort of gravy thickness. Its taking a few goes as the filler reduces in height as it dries
Taking this idea further, the rest of the track is being filled in like this to save on the amount of ash needed to cover it, masking tape was put on either side of the tie bars to block the filler getting in and to make walls down the sides of the track bed
Next section to fill, again setting up masking tape walls

im also guessing there must be a wooden floor over them
i should have included an intro, ive been going through the railway mags in our club library for a few months, found various interesting things, if it is about wagons, i'll share it with Compound's thread if it is pre 1900's it goes in the 19th century FB group but there are many other things without a place to post so here is my own place.
This will be some tit-bits of volumes which will of course be bias to my own interests and im sure Railway Magazine and the second hand sellers wont be happy with somebody sharing it all for free so they will mostly be images minus the article text

Just as i start getting into it, my iron dies, though we have an old iron from my late grandad, its a Henley Solon 25W, a quick google last night gives 1940's & 50's, some people saying they were prone to corrosion and shorting while others saying theyve had theirs in continual use for 60 years without having to change the tip.

That looks interesting, do you have any recent photos? I imagine that the motor is hidden in the firebox?

Its been a long time since i talked about my little Bagnall but recently got back into it. One of the main problems was how to eventually attach the valve gear return crank, then while working on the Overlord S100 i decided to copy it. On the pug's rear crankpins i drilled out the thread and glued in a 14BA bolt from the back, and the return crank will solder onto the nut (below on the left), i cant remember how long ago i did this but this past week ive been making parts to start putting the motion together; top right are the motion brackets, the brackets to go them to hold the expansion link and lifting link crank and shaft, the slide bars and finally the half finished crossheads. I dont think ive ever worked on motion this small before and will be my first time making walshearts

The little ex Kilmersden Hunslet at middleton continues to rust away with no prospect of restoration because it owned by a group of individuals, the railway cant touch it without their permission but apparently hasnt had any contact with any these owners for decades, dont have any way contacting them, dont know their names or contact or even if they are still alive

Was talking last night to a friend who is a regular volunteer on the NYMR, the levisham team did indeed do several questionable things even bordering on breaking the law (there is more than what is reported in the media) but at the same time the lack of management that let them run wild for so long, like the class 20 incident which brought to light the failing to certify drivers. The team claimed that they own the now confiscated wagons but this is untrue and they did rent out one of the cottages which should have been free. On the other hand as a result of the suspension, they currently dont have anybody looking after Levisham.

The lifting ropes were made on jig of 3 bits of rod in a block of wood, the thread is twisted around 1 and secured with a blob of super glue to soak into the twist and the around the next rod, giving me 2 Y shaped ropes which i painted to stiffened before removing
Went over the ropes with a dark wash and generally weathered the wagon

I learned that way that Railway Magazine in the 1970’s was worth nothing than paper recycling.. especially when getting more than a dozen of each issue !.. everyone donated them, no one wanted them… also learned things like Locomotives Illustrated and early Steam Railway were worth gold
We recently had this on our club exhibition stand, boxes and boxes of old modellers that hardly anyone will buy, but ones like Bylines always sell, last year we purged all the modelling mags from before 2000, hundreds of them and still have loads

Just about ready for painting and then move onto filling the gap which is a short backscene between this board and the bridge

Eventually did the container writing yesterday, the top W looks weird just because it goes over the strap and after painting the shackle loops i made weeks ago could now go on
This afternoon, screwed back onto the wagon and tied it down, still the crane lifting rope work to do

But this is a model railway discussion board.
and? why does it just have to be about ideas to make models from these ideas, enthusiasts like to dream about a line that could have been either from real proposals of just from their head but without any intention making models of it.
have a browse of the forum, about half of all posts are about prototype discussion not just models

a railway that is not real, there for imaginary railway, maybe youre thinking a bit too philosophical, the thread is about any railways that dontt exist, be it route or history

Another old job ticked off, finally finished the side tipper.
Firstly was rebuilding the rockers since i got the curvature wrong and to sit the body lower. Adding the slotted plates, the body has 2 pins on the underside which run in the curved slots to limit the travel of the tipping, then the gaps on the chassis could be filled with lead, covered in glue and painted to hide it
9n the back side of the body there are 2 latches to lock the body level, these are handles on chain hanging from the body with holes which slot onto pins on the chassis

Just from the article, there seems to be some mismanagement and miscommunication from both sides and the situation shouldnt have been able to escalate to this degree

Info board painted a while ago and now trying to fit the gap back scene, a curved board which will be cut away to silhouette of a treeline
At the info board end a wedge was needed to fill a gap, which is not just tapered for the angle but the right hand side of it also twists to match the curve
This end will hook on
Today i decided how to fit it against the bridge, screwed on a rectangle of ply in the portal which the backscene just sits against.
